Listening Ride the Lightning because of the new single. I really can't see me liking the new album at all. RtL is a huge album for me, also because it was the first Metallica album that I bought when it came out. Me being 14 at the time. My adoration went up and until the black album, the latter because I was in love with my first ex at the time. After that I was screwed by blindly buying the Load album and that was me done and dusted with James cs.

Seems to be some kind of fusion of techno, nu-metal and pop. Like a poppier Zoomer interpretation of Rammstein or something. This is not metal no, this is dance club music. I wish I could go back to not knowing of their existence, but I guess the cat's out of the bag now. Great.

Yeah, it's not really about genre purity. I'll sometimes use legit informally the way some people might use the word solid to describe an album or something. I actually used the word decent the first time I typed that post last night and then went back and changed it to legit. It would be pointless to get up on my soap box and proclaim that all the black metal I don't care for doesn't even qualify as real true black metal. It's not like I've never engaged in any of that type of behavior before, obviously I have. But as time goes by there's just gonna be more and more of that stuff that I can't stand, so it's so much easier to just say this little pile of stuff over here that I like is legit, the real deal, the good stuff.
As far as my checklist of criteria goes, I've always found that despite my love of words, explaining how or why I do or don't like something is an extremely difficult task. I don't always even know the reasons why I don't like something myself, and therefore I can have quite a bit of trouble putting into words what it is I do or don't like about stuff. What I do know is this expected conformity where we're all supposed to fall in line to like and dislike all the same shit makes no sense to me.
I've always done my own thing, chosen my own path, gone my own way. I've never expected others to synchronize their tastes with mine, we all like and dislike different shit for our own very personal reasons. Even with people you've found you have a lot of music in common with, there will always be divergences. I fully expect most others will disagree with my tastes more often than not, the same way I generally disagree with theirs. And it doesn't bother me the slightest little bit when they do. So it never occurs to me that others could take offense when I disagree with their tastes.
But yet I often feel the expectations of my peers weighing on me when I say I can't stand Morbid Angel or Rush or Immolation or Krisiun or Dying Fetus or Messhugah or Pantera or Queensryche or Hail Spirit Noir or SYL or Negative Plane or 70's Priest or solo King Diamond or solo Ozzy or Pink Floyd's The Wall or Rust In Peace or whatever it may be that I can't stand that day. People often react like there must be something wrong with me. Like I've insulted them personally by not liking something they like. Or as if I were calling their taste into question. How could I dare to stray from the party line? Must need the shit cleaned out of my ears. What a curmudgeon. You must worship Satan. Why are you always such a cranky bastard? I find that one the most amusing. I'm not cranky, I bear no malice or hostility. I just like what I like and don't what I don't. And I don't care what anyone else thinks about that.
It's all fun and games when we're all ganging up and happily ragging on some common denominator, low-hanging fruit type shit, like nu-metal or metalcore or power metal or DEP or ICP or Ghost or Deafheaven or Balloon-knot or whichever bands we can all bond over hating. Fred Durst blows!! Yeah!! Fuck him!! But dare to say out loud that 70's Priest sucks, or I can't stand Rush, or Tool, or I have no use for Bowie's Berlin trilogy, or I think Morbid Angel is trash, or let slip that I don't give a shit about Dismember or Demilich, and then people react like you've farted in their face, or taken your dick out and pissed all over their leg. Like they expect you to excuse yourself and slink away to hang your head in shame for the crime of having a different opinion. Go think about what you've done, stop being so damned contrary and come with the correct attitude next time. And that's just dumb.
People need to harden the fuck up and stop being so bloody sensitive all the time. Unless it's your band and you've written and performed all the music yourself. Then I could understand them taking derogatory comments personally. But everyone else needs to get over themselves and accept that not everyone sees things the same way they do.

Marathon couple of days working from home on report cards and writing IEP's....wife out of the house, so blasting away on Sonos streaming a bunch of shit I've thrown into my Bandcamp wishlist:
Darkthrone/Astral Forest-Seems a lot of fans are basically saying they're ready for a switch up in the sound, but I like this one a lot. Funny, I though Old Star was a chore and never grabbed it. Maybe it's the overtly doom quality of this album, but I'm digging it.  Blackbraid/I and Cavernlight-both good representations of very different swaths of metal that have been collecting dust in my wishlist. I really want to grab a CD because I still roll like that, but imma prolly have to breakdown and go strictly digital with these two. Dead Cross/II-liked the first one, this one is a keeper for me. Fun listen. The Otolith/Folium Limina-Luv me some Sub Rosa, but this one is feeling one dimensional...not sure yet Morbific/Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm-feels more of the same pretty much but perhaps not as memorable....need more time here. Goatwhore/Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven-been there, done that....seen this movie before kind of thing.... Morbikon/Ov Mournful Twilight-literally no opinion Ripped to Shreds/Jubian- surprisingly enjoyable for a once thru Summerlands/Dreamkiller-didn't make it thru...can't get into their trad power thing

Weird they call this a full length release, it lasts 28 minutes also including a Grave cover. Ah well, pretty good release nevertheless.
