  1. Mayhem - Deathcrush Observing Valentine's Day appropriately. ?
  2. Katatonia - For Funerals to Come...
  3. Monday morning commute: Great White - "House of Broken Love" Dokken - "In My Dreams" Scorpions - "Big City Nights" Boston - "Peace of Mind" Black Sabbath - "Die Young" So far it's been a great day.
  4. Yeah sort of early punk/thrash/hard rock I guess. Fenriz mentioned Epicus Doomicus Metallicus as an inspiration for the new material but I honestly can't imagine what it's going to sound like. I don't remember him saying anything about a possible release date though.
  5. It's on the Saw You Drown EP. I believe it was first recorded in '96.
  6. I've been listening to Katatonia "Scarlet Heavens" almost nonstop. It still sounds like Brave Murder Day plus Sisters of Mercy to me. Which is never a bad thing, of course. Haha pretty sure you're the first person to ever say that to me. At least my shitty life has a great fucking soundtrack lol.
  7. I'm pretty sure I remember Fenriz saying something about it and he and Nocturno had been listening to a lot of early Candlemass while writing apparently. I haven't heard any of their recent albums but the idea of Darkthrone playing doom metal kind of interests me.
  8. The history of this band is intensely fascinating to me. No matter how much I read about it, I still want to learn more. I suppose because if it were a novel it would be such an excellent psychological thriller - except it's all true.
  9. Found this on Amazon by complete accident a couple of months ago while looking for something totally unrelated and jumped on it. I've only flipped through it a bit and there's tons of old photographs I've never seen before. Finally getting around to reading it for real. Also this somehow happened just now. ? ?
  10. Immortal - At the Heart of Winter I love this album. It's the first Immortal album I ever heard and it's still my favorite. Nearly every riff in every song is massive.

I read an interview back in 2017 where Archaon was talking about how they were beginning work on a new full length. Also I think they mentioned back in the summer that the album would probably be out this year(?) but I can't remember what the source was. But I'm assuming if they've been writing new material there should be a new album soon. It's been ages since Cauldron. I listen to a lot of different music so I don't care so much about sub-genres or if they change their sound a bit. I'm genuinely just happy they're still around. They're one of a declining number of bands whose new material interests me, and one of the only bands I'd pay good money to see as their live show still offers something valuable in my opinion other than being a nostalgia act.
  12. Great, I can't unhear this now. ? Misheard metal lyrics are the absolute best haha. I'm still convinced that Gaahl is screaming "I AM GAAAAAAAAAAHL AND I AM GOD!!!!!!" in "Unchain My Heart". XD
  13. I don't believe this deserves its own thread but does anyone else ever read something and it reminds you of a song lyric? Usually uncommon words and the first thing that springs to mind is the song you know it from? For example, whenever I see the word "beware", I immediately think of Death's "Spirit Crusher". And I always hear it in my mind in Chuck Schuldiner's voice too lol. Same thing with "chasm"; Satyricon's "In The Mist By The Hills". I always "hear" it in Satyr's voice. ["OVERRR THE CHASM!!!"] Haha just something amusing I wanted to share. This always seems to happen to me in public and I have to really fight to keep a straight face.
  14. Been looping these all morning: Satyricon - "Min Hyllest Til Vinterland" Paradise Lost - "Another Desire" Katatonia - "Gone"
  15. Satyricon mastered the most perfect atmospheric, sort of mystical sound on those albums. The acoustic arrangements on Dark Medieval Times are beautiful and unexpected, and they took this one step farther on The Shadowthrone and Nemesis Divina to create an absolutely haunting atmosphere using piano/keyboards to harmonize with those incredible riffs. They were unique in that way I think. It's a shame they moved away from that sound in the late 90s, as nothing they've done since then even comes close to touching those albums. I can appreciate that they're still together and making music and I'm always curious to hear what they're doing, they've written some good songs over the years but those first three albums are masterpieces of the genre.
  16. Thank you. I suppose for me it's just very cathartic to know I'm not completely alone in my thoughts. I'm constantly surrounded by delusional idiots who seem to think we're all living in a fantasy world where everything is about fun and pleasure and I can't relate to that at all.
  17. Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Satyricon - Nemesis Divina Satyricon - The Shadowthrone Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky Yeah, I know, I'm such a Satyricon fanboy especially for their early stuff. Can't help it. No demos, no EPs, no live albums. That gets too tricky. De Mysteriis... is pretty much required imo. A Blaze in the Northern Sky, of course. I believe these five albums are essential listening and among the best music ever made.
  18. Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath
  19. Does anyone else feel better when they listen to black metal? Or doom metal? I've had to confront death this week (again) with my little kitty cat passing away. These situation always drag me to a very dark place in my mind where I obsessively contemplate the existential horror of our reality, but it helps to hear that there are/were other people in the world who share (or have shared) the same perspective and thought deeply about it. You can call me a retard or a poser or whatever. Idgaf. Just wondering if cranking "Life Eternal" or songs with similar thematic content have a calming effect on anyone else. Or am I just a total freak?? (This might not be the appropriate thread - my bad.)
  20. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
  21. 1349. No idea when the release date is supposed to be. But personally the album I'm looking forward to most this year because it's been f.o.r.e.v.e.r since Cauldron.
