Would the world be a better place today if Hitler conquered the world?

I'm not sure where you're getting that from' date=' Hitler didn't have much of an economic policy at all.[/quote'] He came to power at a time where Germany's inflation rate was insanely high, the cost of living was unacceptably high, and actually improved the situation. That takes some economic nouse surely. His military tactics also proved extremely effective. Then there was the idea of creating an affordable motor vehicle for the general population. Sure he did some truly terrible things but the man was quite intelligent.

Not at all. It was Heinz Guderian who wrote on tank warfare and more broadly laid the groundwork for blitzkrieg. Hitler was the jackass who thought the Me262 should be a bomber rather than an interceptor fighter, despite it being a one-person, lightweight jet-powered aircraft. Also he decided it'd be a great strategic move to attack the USSR (a nation for whose creation the German state was in large part responsible considering that they facilitated Vladimir Lenin's return to Russia during WW1) after having made a treaty with them, before the war was really finished.

Hitler provided no solutions, the spoils of war would have eventually run out and their economy would have collapsed like the Soviet union.

Another thing about hilter didn't he also build the Hindenburg that crash landed. In lakehurst. New Jersey.
Well, apparently the company that made them got funding from Goebbels so yeah, kinda. Blimps are making a comeback nowadays, the army likes the idea of a large, efficient, slow-moving craft to do surveillance and/or missile command over the country - any role where they have to be up in the air for a long time in a relatively safe zone. They've also been proposed for massive transport once a beachhead has been established and there's no fear of anti-aircraft equipment.

BlutAusNerd: hate to break it to you, but Hitler fixed Germany's utterly disastrous economy before he engaged in any conflict with any other nation. In fact, he was only capable of marshaling forces because he'd sorted out the economy so well. Would the world be a better place? No, it would be a different place. We might have had less of an environmental disaster than we've had in the past sixty years (given the Nazis' emphasis on nature and natural, simple living), but we would no doubt have a much more rigidly defined social structure, and one which took ethnicity into account to boot (which is quite bizarre, and not particularly effective, really). Morally, we would be better off; socially, we would be worse off. Technologically, who can say? There would have been less of an emphasis on weaponry and more of an emphasis on livingry, but it would still have been a case of "us vs. them" mentality pervading society, meaning that only the privileged few would have been able to make use of the top technologies. I mean, it would've been a particular race and caste instead of the money-grubbers who cheated their way to the top, so in a way it might be a little more fair...? No, I can't really even say that. It would just have been different, but we would still have a shitty time of it. It's the time that makes the society, not the society that makes the time. Since the time is bad (kali yuga etc.), the societies are bad.

Yes let's place a large' date=' slow moving, highly unstable craft in enemy territory for the purposes of surveillance and intelligence gathering. What could possibly go wrong?[/quote'] Although I do realize when I said 'over the country' I should have said 'the home country'. The way I've framed it means that 'the country' could mean 'enemy territory'.

The French would still surrender.
The French? You mean the French who unilaterally acted to help stabilize Cote d'Ivoire and Mali in the past five years while the international community sat on their hands and did sod-all except bitch and moan and wring their hands like they always do? The French, who have enjoyed thousands of years of military success, including a century-long conquest of England, who always get judged on six years of that history? "According to the historian Niall Ferguson, of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in 50 – more than Austria (47) and England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387BC, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10." (Telegraph, Oct. 22nd, 2010).

Except the Germans are actually really funny. They tend to have a very deadpan sense of humour. Wait. I just did an Iceni didn't I?
If you mean you just did an 'accurate', then yes. By the way, if you want a country with a terrible military record and real chickensh*ts for soldiers try Bangladesh. Or Iraq. Or ISIS, for that matter.

Your last post was like reading something by the Rain Man. And let's not get into countries with terrible military records considering where you're from eh? Sent from my GT-I5500 using Tapatalk 2

  • 3 weeks later...

There would probably be rebellions of some sort at some point. Just hope we're able to develop some sort of decent international economic and political system before we destroy ourselves. Can't really afford another world war with our level of technology these days... I think it's time we make international forums of debate a priority, just so that we can work together as a race - always looking to develop nations on common interests instead of only looking to further our own...

I'm from the country that beat your country in 1779 with an army of farmers, mainly by A) aiming guns rather than volley fire and B) getting help from - guess who? - the French.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
