  1. Aevangelist "Writhes In Murk" Raunchy "A Discord Electric" Godflesh "Decline & Fall"
  2. Jute Gyte "Ressentiment" Immortal "Blizzard Beasts" Abazagorath - s/t
  3. Aevangelist "Writhes In The Murk" - much more cohesive than "Omen Ex Simulacra". Still obvious in the different styles but no longer 2 different albums playing at the same time. Great return to form.
  4. Maggot - moderator or not Blut still has the right to express an opinion. Not wanting to drag this into a projected discussion just wanted to add some rationale. NP: The King Is Blind "The Deficiencies Of Man"
  5. Having now heard "Strong Arm..." and "The Eagle.." I can't believe I have missed out on 2 quality releases for most of my years of listening to metal. For no logical reason I assumed Saxon would surely be some great tracks fleshed out as albums by mediocre plod. I couldn't be more wrong - they are consistent and capable songwriters and musicians, some of the guitar work is fantastic. My new favourite old band!
  6. Immortal "Sons Of Northern Darkness" Saxon "The Eagle Has Landed" Portal "Vexovoid"
  7. Incantation "Dirges Of Elysium" Whitesnake "1987" Darkthrone "Under A Funeral Moon"
  8. The King Is Blind "The Deficiencies of Man" Singer is a forumite on another board I frequent and his band are getting some seriously decent reviews and they managed to play Bloddstock this year too. Bought all their releases so far but not managed to catch them live yet.
  9. Now have this! Listening through today I have released just how good Saxon actually are - the debut is consistent on the whole with only a couple of off songs in there, "Wheels of Steel" is a strong release too and "Denim & Leather" needs no introduction. Never heard "Strong Arm Of The Law" the whole way through before but I am told it is quite good. As for "The Eagle Has Landed", well I am not a massive fan of live albums but will give it a go at some point.
  10. Started packing up the house ready for the move in a few weeks - we have keys already though for the new place. Just going to wait until the solicitor draws up the tenancy and then start to slowly move boxes out over 3 weekends then the removals guys can just do the furniture. House is a sea of boxes and actually can't wait to get to the hotel tomorrow for a bit of space!
  11. Immortal "Sons Of Northern Darkness"
  12. Saxon - Original Album Series (CD) - Saxon, Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm Of The Law, Denim and Leather and The Eagle has Landed. Immortal "Sons Of Northern Darkness" Edit - Incantation "Dirges of Elysium" - best example of an album intro setting the tone for the rest of the record you'll hear all year.
  13. Deicide "Legion" Rush "2112" Serpentine Path "Emanations"
  14. 1992 was a good year for death metal. It was the year that Incantation unleashed the dark, thumping majesty of "Onward to Golgotha". Also you had the savagery of Convulse with "World Without God" as well as the gore infested sprawl of Cannibal Corpse's "Tomb Of The Mutilated" to mention but a few. It was also the year that Deicide released the follow up to their well received, self titled debut. "Legion" is as natural a progression from the previous output as you could hope for. The demented frenzy of Benton's vocal attack notched up notably and the superb sonics of the Hoffman's guitar work all blending wonderfully into a mix of dark, bludgeoning and well paced death metal. This is Deicide at their best, the music sounds satanic. It sounds like it is delivered with enthusiasm and professionalism. As careers go Deicide began to stray towards being guilty of using the Satan thing as a gimmick the further down the road they went in my opinion. But, on "Legion" the lyrcis are spat with real meaning, almost bordering on passionate. The precision of the Hoffman's on twin guitar attack is superb. Technically a step up from the great work on the debut, sharp and cutting with every chop and riff. Despite the obvious work going on behind the skins, Asheim's drumming sounds muffled and a bit lost at times but it's there most definitely, it just suffers in the mix a little. "Legion" is 30+ minutes of brilliant death metal and should sit in anyone's top ten DM albums as a defining release that strips your skin as it sears forth from your speakers. 5/5
  15. Moved jobs recently and now I am moving house - off to live by the seaside as a friend of my father has an apartment over 2 floors that is available from next month and the rent is discounted so it is too good an opportunity to pass up. Also got details through yesterday about how my bonus at work is calculated and it is achievable (shock horror).
