Well, that was horrible.

I picked this one at random to dip into, never having listened to Manilla Road either. The vocals are not offensive, but are heavily produced to hide his limitations. Well played, good sounding, good leads. The drummer is doing nothing. Metal? Much more progressive rock to my ears. Will I go further into MR? Nah. There is no nostalgia value in this for me and there is so much out there that interests me more. That's what all the buffalos say.

SWALLOW THE SUN - Morning Never Came FLUISTERAARS - Gegrepen Door de Geest der Zielsontluiking BOSCO SACRO - Gem. Gothy with rather nice female vocals NP - BING SATELLITES - Tales From Infinity. You won't like it...unless you like long form electronic ambience.

ANUBIS GATE - Anubis Gate. Precise and imaginative instrumentalists of course, and clean vocals that don't suck. AGALLOCH - The Serpent & The Sphere. One thing is not like the other thing.

TRANSCENDANCE - Serpent Antique. OK CERBÈRE - Cendre. Also OK but the last track drones on much too long. PSYCHONAUT - Unfold the God Man. Well played and well produced, but did not hold my interest. FALAISE - After All This Time. Quite noice, but the fainting goats won't like it. LUMEN AD MORTEM - Upon The Edge Of Darkness. The best of this lot.

TENTACULT - Lacerating Pattern. This is good stuff. Musically interesting enough for Thatguy, but not so techie as to scare off the goats. The fainting goats.

PELICAN - B-Sides and Other Rarities I know what genre this is. It is instrumental metal. Fight me.

IMPERIUM DEKADENZ - Into Sorrow Evermore. It doesn't have a big standout song but this is a really solid album. A grower.

I've got a pair of those - from NZ so mix of wool and possum - and I wear them round the house in winter because my little hands get cold and it's not worth turning up the heat just for that. Doesn't everyone do this? CONJURER - Páthos. Vocals more core than I usually care for, but it was quite noice. EPECTASE - Nécroses. 'orrible clean vocals in first track almost put me of listening to more. Not sure about this one. I hate to sound like the Goaty-whine-about-good-production-General, but it sounds a bit sterile.

You poor little buggers. We can't get affordable new cars and decent ( ie not made by a company owned by a fascist) electric cars are almost unobtainable, but as the flood waters wash away it is currently perfect summer weather in SE Australia and I am off for a morning walk. I think I will listen to some music as I go. Let you know later how that went. Get better guys.

100% they should. There are lots of vested interests that would rather they didn't.

KATATONIA - Sky Void Of Stars. Essential? No. Noice? Yes.

I actually agree with this. They have to be able to sing in tune I also agree. Examples? Peter Garret of Midnight Oil springs to mind. Great frontman especially when he was young and crazy but an extremely limited range covered by the other singers in the band but his voice completed the assets of the band. And Ozzy for god's sake.

I tried this album again on your repeated recommendation. My conclusion? I agree it sounds great and is well played, but those vocals...In all, just not my thing is my conclusion.

This juxtaposition made me smile - steel wool underdaks! Old Thatguy says 'because they suck'. New age Thatguy says they used to be hated because they sounded like BM but didn't look the part. Now they are hated because their most recent album was just bad and not metal at all.
