I guess I'd have to say Vore and Disma. They straddle the sweet spot between Death and Doom that I particularly enjoy. More recently I discovered Konvent who also find that same sweet spot between Death and Doom. Anther recent favourite is Green Lung. I'm still unsure what category of metal they occupy. Not that it really matters I guess.

I guess all we can do is have faith that the song(s) in question mean something to the artist or they're trying to do something that they believe in. Its what the artist wants to achieve vs what the fan considers to be an honest attempt to create good music.

Doom:VS - Dead Words Speak

I liked it overall. I'm a big fan of The Cure's original but I thought they did it justice. The last 2 songs are better though, I agree on that.

Gravehammer by Vore

I really feel Conjuring The Dead is a great album. Its definitely my favourite.
