  7. Greetings. My name is Tom. I'm 34 years old from Michigan, U.S. I'm a biochemist and novelist (mostly as a hobby at this point). As my thread title says, I'm new to the metal scene. As in, since August of last year (2018) or so. Before that I was a hip-hop head. I still enjoy hip-hop, but I'm still riding the wave of my recent introduction to the metal genre. I'm hoping to find new bands, and a deeper appreciation for the genre here. A few of my favorite bands: Behemoth, Aborted, Arch Enemy, Marduk, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Once Human, Rotting Christ, Jinjer, Power Trip

  8. Greetings all. I've had an Ibanez electric guitar for a while now, and I'm wanting to finally learn how to play it. I understand the very basics, that is, what note each string is supposed to be, each fret is a half-step and so on, mainly my problems are technique. I need to learn to stretch my hand to press several frets simultaneously, and also a major problem I have is when trying to press two strings with one finger, my finger invariably contacts the next string over and mutes it if I try to pick it. I don't expect lessons from anyone here; what I'm asking is if anyone knows a good, comprehensive, reliable and free resource online that teaches how to play the guitar. Either that, or I guess it's to the local music shop with me. Thanks, -ACR
