I get the image and the excessive live shows - theatrics is part of why I dig the shit out of Alice Cooper. I guess because I get my over-the-top fix from power metal glam just seems a little weaker. Maybe it's one of those you-had-to-be-there moments in music. Something someone like me could never understand simply because he missed the time period.

They jumped the shark afterwards. I had given up on this as being irredeemably goofy, but after all this time I find myself impressed by how well everything is integrated. I recall being both miffed and excited (and ultimately disappointed) that they'd got their hands on both Adrian from ATG and Martin from Bride, and it seems like their personalities were subsumed, but the riffs still sound pretty fresh. Writing and mixing stuff with that many different sounds is no mean feat, and Dani's vocal rhythms are on point. It's not quite Cruelty And The Beast, but it's better than I remembered.

I feel like the riffs are one of the low points of the album. That said, I do agree that it does have a lot going on and it represents a lot of voices very well, and could easily be called their best orchestrated album. Everything but the guitars were on point, and it was pretty creative.

Slayer "Show No Mercy"

Having fallen asleep to their eponymous debut last night (not a cause for concern, I loved it, it was just bed time) I listened to the second one just this morning as it happens. I really liked it too. "Shut Up" from their first album is on that compilation I've been going on about. I listen to the CD's a lot in my car, but don't have the literature there so I never learn the names of the bands, or the songs; I'm assuming it's called Shut Up. Anyway they are pretty entertaining, Faster Pussycat, and it's kind of alarming how polished they got between those albums. I'm just about ready to look them up on Wikipedia and see what I learn.
