  1. Jeez - and I thought my 15 hour days were pushing it! Hit me up next time you are working late Ghouly - we can exchange animated gifs and powerpoint slides!
  2. 4 tracks in and given up with Tribulation. Not sure why it's lauded so much in reviews as it makes poor use of it's interesting ideas and drowns them in mediocre delivery. NP: Wodensthrone "Loss"
  3. Tribulation "Formulas Of Death" Not sure what to make of this - have given it a run through before now but not been bitten by it. Get an overall sense of it being a bit "tame" as I listen. Interesting enough still just necessarily my bag arrangement wise.
  4. Deathcult "Pleading for Death....Choking On Life"
  5. Forefather "Steadfast" - stumbled across them completely by accident (see Black Metal thread) and actually quite like them. Two tracks in and this album is kind of like a blackened Amon Amarth to some degree. Strange I have never heard of them considering they are from the UK and aren't terrible.
  6. Had never heard of Forefather to be honest. A quick look up on Youtube and MetaL Archives was needed. They actually prefer to call themselves "Anglo-Saxon Metal" and seem to dislike Black Metal as a tag, although the influence is there certainly. Seems a bit bizarre to create a tag all of your own to try and stand out from the crowd. Anyway will give them a listen through now - thanks for the (inadvertent) heads up Iceni.
  7. So far this morning whilst gardening (rock n roll!!!): Impetuous Ritual "Unholy Congregation of Hypocritical Ambivalence" Behexen "Rituale Satanum" Unholy Crucifix "Ordo Servorum Satanum"
  8. I agree - both on Winterfylleth and the general lack of big UK contributors. There are some decent acts out there still like Crom Dubh with their Saxon, Norse and Celtic mythology themed lyrics. But from a signed point of view I can only think of Fen (arguably more post rock??) as a notable name. I am on the fence about Winterfylleth still, there aren't shit but they seem to lack something that I can't quite put my finger on.
  9. I have only just realised today that Wodensthrone are English. Sitting listening to "Loss" led me to search on them a little bit and the vast expansive nature of their debut full length is actually a very important release for the UK BM scene as a whole. The subtle guitar work that although manages to exhibit riffage acts more as a driver for the sound as a whole instead of being a stand alone part. The melodies on this album are superb too especially when interlaced with the strings. It's a real record to get lost in as it swirls through darkness, history and nostalgia wrapping you up in it's sheer vastness.
  10. Wodensthrone "Loss" Necrovore "Divus De Mortuus"
  11. Goatlord "Reflections Of The Solstice"
  12. Just enjoying a Deuchars IPA from the Caledonian Brewery. It's been a hot sunny day here today and it is going down perfectly.
  13. Impetuous Ritual "Unholy Congregation of Hypocritical Ambivalence" - a massive step up from their previous outing and one that will chart very highly in my end of year list. Superb, squally DM. Opeth "Blackwater Park" Serpent Ascending "The Enigma Unsettled" - some solid Finnish DM that I stumbled across by accident on BC this week. It's a project by Jarno Nurmi from Slugathor, Desecresy amongst others.
  14. Matricide "Black Mass Gathering" and now Graveland "Wotan Mit Mir"
  15. Matricide "Black Mass Gathering" Graveland "Wotan Mit Mir"
  16. Serpent Ascending "The Enigma Unsettled"
  17. Deathcult "Pleading For Death....Choking On Life"
  18. I don't get it! Everybody is going mental over it and it's just mediocre to me - don't get me wrong it isn't shit (far from it) but I was just waiting to be blown away but instead just got a bit "meh". Now playing - Irkallian Oracle "Grave Ekstasis"
  19. Black Metal is still kinda new to me - I have only just really started to explore the genre beyond Burzum, Emperor, Darkthrone etc. Death metal was the first real extreme music I got into and holds a special place in my heart as a result, fell out with it for a few years but since discovering the bands I mentioned earlier my interest has been reinvigorated. "Still Life" was one of the last albums I picked up from that list - it was going cheap at an exchange store in town. Really like "Face Of Melinda" from that album, it's got real flow to it.
