  1. Re: best metal guitarist (your opinion) I've got nothing against Angus, AC/DC is a good band, its just that I play guitar and like the guys that come up with complex technical music, I learn an AC/DC song it takes me maybe three weeks, I just finished learning Megadeth's Holy Wars, it took me two months (and I still don't have it perfect) the cool thing about metal fans is that we don't get all pissed off if someone disagrees with us, something all the non-headbangers really should learn about
  2. Re: top fives can't name any death or black metal vocalists so here's one top five thrash bands 1. Slayer 2. Pantera 3. Megadeth 4. Exodus 5. Metallica
  3. so here's how this will work, I'll start with a topic and make a list, if the next person agrees with all five then you start a new topic, if you disagree then put in your list and so on OK first topic will be best drummer in metal (living or dead) 1. Nicko Mcbrain 2. Dave Lombardo 3. Nick Menza 4. Vinnie Paul Abbot 5. Charlie Benante
  4. Re: best metal guitarist (your opinion) no offence to freddy but Angus Young is hardly a great guitar player, the dude knows maybe 5 chords, Kirk Hammett isn't a great guitar player for the same reason, neither of them really know what they're doing. In my opinion you can't be a great guitar player without technique and knowledge of scales, look at guys like Steva Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen and even Dave Mustaine they all have great technique and really know their scales and how to work them into the music and that is what makes them great guitar players
  5. I know its not exactly a new album anymore but it is one of my favourites so here goes Endgame continues Megadeth's triumphant return to their thrash metal roots, it contains the usual Mustaine mix of lyrical influences and the bleak world view Mustaine generally employs. the riffs and solos are at times brutal, at times melodic, and sometimes both. stand out tracks on this album include "Head Crusher", "44 Minutes", "This Day We Fight" and the title track "Endgame", but every track on this album is worth a listen.
  6. Re: Best lines going with something classic "Oh no its the midnight hour, don't open the door, don't go to the edge of rainbows, don't sleep anymore you'll dream evil"
  7. Re: Rate the song above you! not really the metal i like listening to, 3/10
  8. Re: Rate the song above you! not a big fan of dream theater and that's why, there is no reason to have a song that long, 4/10
  9. Re: best metal guitarist (your opinion) almost forgot about my favourite guitar player, and the sole reason i listen to Children Of Bodom, Alexi Laiho
  10. Re: Rate the song above you! one of the better clips i've seen, 7/10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTMN6pqCMbw
  11. Re: What Are You Listening To? Slayer - World Painted Blood
  12. Re: Best lines a line by one of the greatest lyricists ever in my opinion Lemmy from Motorhead: "If you squeeze my lizard, I'll put my snake on you"
  13. here's a quote i heard on That Metal Show during their RJD tribute show "it's not the size of the pencil that counts its how big you write your name"
  14. Re: Rate the song above you! its a 3 from me, decent guitar but not a big fan of the vocals, lets see how people treat Pantera
  15. Re: best metal guitarist (your opinion) if we're talking just great guitar players Slash and Eddie Van Halen have to top the list, also Steve Vai, and do we all agree none of the guys from dragonforce can play?
  16. Re: best metal guitarist (your opinion) how about some love for Marty Freidman? Dave Mustaine always thought Marty was better then he was and Dave is pretty much a guitar god, Yngwie Malmsteen is another epic guitarist also
  17. Re: CLOTHES jeans and metal tees, a beat up pair of DC shoes, and my leather jacket, it probably freaks out a lot of people around my university lol
  18. Hello to my fellow metalheads from a proud headbanger in Australia. A little about me: I play guitar, have been playing for three years, I have two guitars, an Epiphone Les Paul, which doesn't see much use at the moment, and a Dean ML with EMG active pickups, I run a Peavey amp but can't remember the specific model. I play mostly the old stuff, Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, and some thrash The band that first got me into metal was Metallica, and i would love to say that the song was Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning but sadly it was actually St. Anger. I know not exactly good form in the world of metal right? anyway currently my fave bands are: Dio, Megadeth and Pantera
  19. Re: Rate the song above you! sorry to say that's a 5/10 for me, it just seems like a forgettable song to me, there's nothing that really stands out that much, but I'm a hard headbanger to impress so maybe its just me
  20. Re: What's your dream guitar? I'm going to be buying my dream guitar soon, it's a Dave Mustaine signature series Dean Zero Angel of Deth II
  21. Re: SHRED IT!! I'm big on solos, really work scales and arpeggios, use hammer ons and pull offs a lot, use bends and slides to transition into new sequences, play at probably a medium to fast pace
  22. Re: What gear do you have ? I've got 2 guitars, the first is an Epiphone Les Paul that set me back $800 Australian, and the other is a Dean ML with EMG active pickups which set me back $1700 Australian, and I run a Peavey amp, its pretty solid but i think I'm gonna upgrade to a Marshall, also thinking of getting some effects pedals but don't know what the good brands are or what i should look for, anyone have some suggestions?
  23. looking for suggestions on metal bands I should add to my collection I've already got: AC/DC (I know they're not really a metal band), All That Remains, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Dio, Disturbed, Guns 'n' Roses (again not really metal), Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Killswitch Engage, KISS, Megadeth, Metallica, Motorhead, Ozzy, Pantera, Rainbow, Slayer and Trivium
  24. Re: what's the most metal thing you own? most metal thing i own is either my guitar (Dean ML in black), the big four guitar pick I got when i bought the DVD set, or my leather jacket
  25. Re: Who is the best out of the big 4 ??? Megadeth, Dave Mustaine is a genius on guitar and i really dig the lyrical content of their songs "Fools like me, who cross the sea, and come to foreign lands, ask the sheep for their beliefs do you kill on God's command?"
