  1. Re: Christian Black Metal Yeah, but I should probably PM you. I think we're getting off topic from the thread.
  2. Re: Bands You'd Like to See Good, this is rolling now! Interesting. I'll have to check out Transatlantic. Maybe put Jeroen Paul Thesseling of Obscura on bass...I suspect you'd like John Entwhistle, but sadly he's dead. But Neal Morse sounds like a great guy. I don't know about his music, I suppose I'll give that a shot too. But he reminds me a lot of Brahms, actually. Brahms was humble and witty, and he espoused a lot of the values I do.
  3. Re: Your favorite death metal bands? WOW, THAT'S A SHOCKER. Figures... But check out Scar Symmetry, they're also progressive death metal.
  4. Re: Christian Black Metal WHOOOO! HEART PALPITATIONS! Ah almost choked on mah carrots. No, I hadn't noticed...I'd guessed you were Unitarian or agnostic like Akuji and you just wanted to be fair. Good grief, I've waited AGES to meet someone of your ilk.
  5. Re: Ban the user above you! Banned because I'm actually just going to go straight to lunch in a while...Imma just munch on carrots in the interim.
  6. Re: Rate the user above 8/10 for being fair and intelligent in argument...as any good prog fan should be . Have you heard 'The Death of Faith and Reason' by Redemption? Very good song about the theology vs. atheism debate.
  7. Re: Ban the user above you! Banned for not using a Wu Shu style ban. Use your opponent's energy against them... And banned because I've got to eat breakfast now and I won't be able to post for a full five minutes . But seriously, thanks for getting this one moving again.
  8. Re: Christian Black Metal Well, you brought some intellect and balance to the debate and you persuaded Valfar to alter his position, so I owe you for upholding an unpopular cause.
  9. Re: Records, CDs, or MP3s? But that's the problem. You can only get it in South Africa as far as I know. Do give Squirt a try, though, it's great.
  10. Re: Underrated or Unknown Metal Well if you're in Australia, there are actually a LOT of good Australian bands, like Psycroptic, Mephistopheles (jazz metal w00t) and others. Look up the YouTube video "Technical Death Metal Showdown: Russia vs.Australia" Very cool and a lot of good bands on there. In the meantime I'll give these other groups a shot.
  11. Re: Heya guys YES! I've only ever heard New World Shadows but what I heard I liked.
  12. Re: Rate the user above 8.7/10 for asking about my artwork, and for looking up Guardian.
  13. Re: Your favorite death metal bands? AMEN TO THAT. Well, to answer your question... Like a lot of other people here, I'm a Dark Tranquillity fan. Omnium Gatherum sounds a lot like them, with more atmosphere. Immortal Souls is pretty good melodeath. Scar Symmetry and Solution .45 are similar, sort of a half-progressive, half-death metal enterprise...not that everyone doesn't already know about them... Aletheian are very good tech death with a humble style but really nice playing. Battlelore is sort of in a genre of their own since they also have clean female vocals (very good ones too) but their death vocalist sounds like an Uruk-hai. That fits, since they sing all about J.R.R. Tolkien's works. Miseration employs the vocal talents of Christian Alvestam and produces a combination of melodic death metal and technical death metal. Sympathy is an obscure Canadian metal assault. The drumming and guitars are absolutely top-notch. However... Quo Vadis is my favorite. They put in just enough melody so that it's not all esoteric technicality, but everything is excellent.
  14. Re: Christian Black Metal Do wrath and damnation seem like good black metal subjects? I put this question to the black metal fans like Valfar who seem to know their way around this genre.
  15. Metal isn't really in the popular vein these days. People tend not to know much about it and only a few bands manage to get people's attention. As metalheads, we pride ourselves on finding the unknown and bringing it to the fore. This thread is intended for people to talk about any underrated or unknown musician or band which they think ought to get more publicity, etc. I've got a lot of them but I'll wait for some posts first.
  16. Re: Heya guys Oh good, another Dark Tranquillity fan. Give Omnium Gatherum a try...kind of like Dark Tranquillity but with a more symphonic atmosphere. Neurotech's also really nice. They're industrial melodeath, I think - they call themselves 'futuristic metal' and if the future is a dark, robotic dystopia with a lot of skyscrapers in the vein of Brave New World and 1984. Welcome to the forum.
  17. Re: Rate the user above Thank you very much. I'll try to see what I can do about the artwork today. So 8.5/10, until further notice.
  18. Re: Linkin Park Weaklings Swear To Seem Bad*ss
  19. Re: Metal Soundtracks for Movies I wish Drowning Pool's bodies would hit the floor...and not get up for a couple of years. Put on Iron Savior, Nocturnal Rites, Neurotech, or Symphony X... As for songs you could try 'Rolling Chances' by Raintime, 'Garden of Chaos' by Rob Rock, 'Astronomicon' by Scar Symmetry, 'This Is Your Life' by Threshold, or 'Lost' by Voyager. Or, the massive win...'Voittamaton' by Terasbetoni.
  20. Re: Records, CDs, or MP3s? A great tragedy. You know that you're drinking good ginger beer when, if you drink it too fast, you cough and sneeze like mad. Happens all the time with Stoney's.
  21. Re: Records, CDs, or MP3s? Well, my other problem is that I prefer to research the album first, so I may well find something great but I won't know if I want it. That being the case, I'm restricted to looking for stuff I already want.
  22. Re: How Metal Affects You Well mainstream rap's gonna have to depend on NSBM and Dying Fetus just to ensure that they DON'T look foul...of course it's mainly black guys in rap, so they've got the 'if you don't like it, you're racist' shield. Well...I'll give you an earful on the evils of popular music in another thread. Metal has taught me to respect talent and intelligence even if I don't really agree with it. For example, jazz isn't my cup of tea, but it's not bad tea. Of course, there's a certain level of stupidity I won't take, but I can't say Vital Remains and Behemoth suck and are bad bands even if they are directly opposed to my theology. I will say I think they're dead wrong, though, because metal encourages me to speak my mind. In some sense the music also helps make me different from most people, which I like. Terasbetoni's got a song called Metallitotuus, which means 'Metal Truth' in Finnish. I think that's partially what metal is about - speaking the truth. As a result, metal has made me very prickly about deception, BS'ing and ignorant garbage of all stripes.
  23. Re: Mayhem HOBO-SLAYER, I don't think we have any idea who you are...could you do an introduction on the intro thread?
