  2. Re: 334 members and where is everyone??? Darn dementors ruin everything... Maybe you could glide over to the Katy Perry forum and spread some terror there.
  3. Re: most unusual instrument you seen a metal band play All right, thanks for clarifying. Actually, that breathing technique reminds me of when I first tried to play guitar and my fingers just were not strong enough to hold down the string. I really has to throttle the neck to play something resembling a clean note, so I didn't think I had the slightest chance of playing this thing until my fingers got hard enough to play.
  4. Re: Viking Metal Viking metal is a subgenre of folk, as are Celtic metal and Oriental metal. It's not really a metal genre in its own right. Each of these bands play a certain style of music - Bathory combines folk and black metal, while Amon Amarth combines melodeath and folk.
  5. Re: Underrated or Unknown Metal And I just ordered their album Anagogic Tyranny! Well, I did check out Graveworm. I'm not a big fan of black metal stylistically but I can't fault them on much except a bit of monotonous drumming here and there. Anyhow, this band is just getting good publicity now, but they still should be way bigger. North African prog! \m/ 6_pFZnAETyw These Tunisian musicians are one of my favorite progressive metal bands, right up there with Threshold, Redemption, Seventh Wonder, 7days and Evergrey.
  6. Re: Rate the song above you! Easy listening goes metal... Admittedly, ballads aren't my style. Given that, the vocal performance was impressive and the drumming was refreshingly interesting for what one would expect to be a slow song. In addition, the solos were very nice (I say solos because I hesitate to name the brass instrument - I think it's a saxophone). So probably 7.5/10. I only recently started listening to these guys again, but I'm actually impressed with how well they progress over their songs. 2ew3nvGhhW4 Lars Larssen. Because Russell Allen can't have all the bombast to himself.
  7. Re: Your Artwork Well, the head and beard turned out nicely. I was never really able to do beasts although I might be able to do this. Maybe I'll send in my own promotional artwork!

  9. On occasion, little babies display better taste in music than the big babies who listen to emo bands. gH7oEcpY1Uk The funny thing is that this is almost exactly what I looked like as a baby. Cf48K5bV8xE If you have any similar videos, feel free to post them here. I realize some of these nascent metalheads show good rhythm as well.
  10. Re: DEATH METAL PARROT 0:13-0:16 was very breadly indeed. The sad thing is he can headbang that hard without getting a monster headache...or having his glasses fly off...not that I'd know anything about that...
  11. Re: most unusual instrument you seen a metal band play Seriously though, I really want to see an aboriginal band from Australia incorporating some didgeridoo into their music. It's one of my favorite instruments; it can throw in both atmosphere and a sense of exotic music simultaneously with those odd vibes. Inlakesh is a band which does didgeridoo music. Just throw in some electric guitar, drums, bass and some odd ethereal vocals and you would have a very unique experience.
  12. Re: hammer fall! The irony to me is that the bridge on 'Any Means Necessary' is actually more epic than the chorus. Ah well. I'm going to miss Stefan Elmgren and Magnus Rosen; they had great stage presence and seemed to be enjoying themselves. At least the band is recovering; Infected really isn't that bad, but the lyrics are somewhat lame. I just hope they go back to swordfighting...maybe write a concept album about some medieval tale. One thing I do know: I WANT THIS HOODIE. \m/
  13. Re: Underrated or Unknown Metal Well, when X Japan, Galneryus and Loudness are all that you hear of the Asian metal scene I really don't blame you for being skeptical. I might as well bring Amogh Symphony to everyone's attention. They're an instrumental prog/techno band from India. Just skip to 1:15 on this; there's an annoying spoken interlude which takes a while to finish. iPAdsGsDSKY Skip to 0:54 for this one. 0mRCqSNrxso
  14. Re: Ban the user above you! Banned for having an avatar which is apparently cave-dwelling, as it has NO eyes.
  15. Re: Ban the user above you! Banned for mentioning Minecraft.
  16. Re: Rate the song above you! Never before have exploding intestines sounded so noble as they did in that solo... 9/10, I wish the drums had been less thrashy in parts but otherwise everything was great. This one gets a bit monotonous toward the end...but the main riff COMMANDS THEE to headbang. 2j3FcKk1chg
  17. Re: Old vs. New Scar Symmetry got their new vocals right after Holographic Universe. Dark Matter Dimensions and The Unseen Empire have the new singers.

  19. Re: Christian Black Metal Did you even read the past couple posts between Valfar and I? If you did, then how can you possibly say there's no such thing as Christian black metal, especially considering that even those who don't like it agree it exists? If you find the existence of these bands offensive, why don't you take your own advice and 'stay clear' of them?
  20. Re: The Human Abstract What I think is: If they suck, shouldn't I be able to play it? If I can sort of feel a metronome in the music I know it's not random noise. When vocals annoy me, I try to imagine the music without them and see if I still hate it. It might as well be an intellectual discussion; it's no use having people bellow past each other, or having some say 'I just...feel that way...' when you're expecting a rationale. It's disappointing. It annoys me when people are on the 'rate the song above you' thread and they give a 5/10 and never bother to tell you why they thought the song sucked that badly. They ought to be able to explain themselves. I try to do that, which is the reason for my long posts.
  21. Re: -oo-ni- Welcome. They'd probably appreciate your professional opinion over at the Vocals thread.
  22. Re: Old vs. New Wow, someone who likes old AND new Symphony X? Well, good. Definitely check out Iconoclast. Most guys are either die-hard old Symphony X fans or they really like the new stuff.

Re: gaming As for games, I like the Battlefront series, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Forza Motorsport, Project Gotham Racing 2, Modern Warfare 2, Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl, and Starfox Assault. As for playing with avid gamers...I hate any and all games regardless of how fun they were before.
  24. Re: Bands You'd Like to See Something I thought of on the black metal thread: I had actually always wanted a kind of 'monk metal'... Something based on hymns or Byzantine-type singing, along with guitars based somewhat around central pipe organ melodies, where all of the members wore robes like that. It may well be something original to bring to the scene, especially with songs structured like hymns with the same long, basic theme repeated over a couple of verses, with added elements thrown in. You could very easily take in classical elements if you're composing long melodies, so that's an added bonus. I think it would reach back to older church history and provide something original to the metal scene.
  25. Re: Rate the song above you! Heck yeah, I loved the rhythm in the verses, not a whole lot of death metal bands bother to do that... Let's see, guitars - amazing, bass - amazing, drums - great, vocals - good. Well, I'll give that 8.5/10 since it could have used a bit more melody (fine, I know it's death metal, but still, some more melody would have pulled it together even better). hGPFhAKpp7Y This band wrote my signature.
