  2. This morning: Entrench - Through the Walls of Flesh Grave Violator - Treet (which didn't really blow my socks off) Evil Invaders - Feed Me Violence
  3. My guess is he's more worried about people throwing a fit over certain bands more than anything else. Don't worry man, this isn't a RABM board...as long you keep the overt stuff to a minimum, no ones going to kirk out on you for liking Mgla or Behexen or whatever other band currently has everyone's underwear in a twist
  4. Sadistic (Chile) - Rotting Eternal
  5. Ripper - Experiment Of Existence
  6. Honestly, I wasn't even saying it was a problem...it was more that I just don't think pirate metal is really a thing. I mean, "viking metal" for all it's vagueness used to at least loosely mean a band that crossed some degree of black metal with folk, while covering themes of Norse myth and viking stories in their lyrics. Well, according to Metal Archives there's less than 100, so shouldn't take too long
  7. Truthfully, because it doesn't serve any real purpose beyond being a marketing gimmick. Now, for the record, I find quibbling about what can and can't constitute a "category" to be kind of pedantic. It's basically the equivalent of "is to...is not" So let me just say, you are more than welcome to call anything you want a category for any reason, no one is stopping you. Whether I find validity in that category is completely up to me. I personally don't find the need to create a separate designation for what amounts to a small handful of bands, that musically have nothing in common beyond a general lyrical theme. If and when it ever becomes an actual trend large enough in my mind to justify needing a unique classification, I'll be more than happy to reconsider
  8. Considering Metal Archives alone has something like 160k bands, I'd say a hell of a lot more than what could statistically be written off as thematic outliers. I mean, it's not like we have "zombie metal" or "devil worship metal" and there are a lot more bands using those themes than there are pirates
  9. I actually did almost make note that there were probably more, but I didn't think it really mattered to my overall point, which is that I really don't think there's enough bands out their playing pirate themed heavy metal to really justify it as it's own category. I mean, even catalog sites like Last.Fm and Rate Your Music struggle to come up with more than a few dozen.
  10. For the record, they're pushing the Mediterranean diet these days...lower meat and dairy...primarily fish, cheese, and yogurt plus lots of veggies, fruits, and olive oil. What's the difference between the carnivore diet and Atkins? Aren't they both just high protein diets?
  11. Honestly, never really saw this as an actual thing so much as some people just trying to make it a thing...kind of like people trying to get a meme to trend. It's not like "viking metal" where you've got a thousand bands running around making music about Scandinavian history and Norse gods. You've basically got Alestorm, Swashbuckle, Running Wild and that's about it....and while I very much enjoy Running Wild, I don't think the limited amount of band participation is enough to justify a new category
  12. Don't think I've ever listened to Old Man's Child. Could never get passed the Dimmu Borgir connection. Antichrist - Sinful Birth
  13. Manticore - Endless Scourge of Torment
  14. I've actually found a mix of both. I've been out and occasionally bumped into people who knew exactly who the band on my shirt was, and got to chatting with them a bit, and I've also run into people whose understanding of metal was basically no deeper than Slipknot, Metallica, Ghost, etc....definitely more of the latter, but that's to be expected. I think most people, even ones who might be brought around to more extreme stuff if they heard it, just aren't aware of those bands or how to find them. Most people who even try are more likely to run into some shit-site like Revolver or Metalsucks and stop there Edit: Holy shit...Spineshank!? That's a fucking name I haven't heard in a very long time
  15. So, you just going to ignore the fact she was also originally found to be too mentally incompetent to stand trial, and had to receive intense counseling before they could actually indict her? https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/grand-jury-indicts-woman-charged-in-youngstown-shooting-death-over-argument-about-god-last-easter/ Christ, I honestly don't care if you're religious, spiritual, an atheist, or some edgelord anti-theist...trying to frame someone's mental break as proof that all religious people are just waiting under your bed to get you is some truly exceptional thinking.
  16. It's got nothing to do with which one is better/catchier/better produced...I'm speaking purely about name recognition. "The Affair of the Poisons" brought a decent level of organic attention/buzz to Hellripper to the point that the next album will probably be the one that gets reviewers and metal media sites talking about it and a wider metal audience becoming aware of the band. It's like the difference between Mgla - With Hearts Toward None and Mgla - Exercises in Futility. With Hearts Toward None was the album that got the buzz and brought the attention, but because most mainstream metal media is perpetually 2 steps behind, they didn't catch onto it until it was too late to slobber all over it. So when Exercises in Futility came out, they tripped all over themselves promoting it, putting it on year end lists, etc. That became the album the more mainstream fans most associated with Mgla, and you can tell because it's the one usually brought up by people with more mainstream tastes.
  17. I wouldn't say Hellripper is well known in the more mainstream side of things, but "The Affair of the Poisons" definitely put him in the position to break through. It was one of those releases that enough people were aware of, that his next album will probably be the one everyone will latch onto and act like it's their favorite band...assuming it's good.
  18. Different perspectives, I guess. I don't typically find places like Metal Injection to be obscure enough. They're definitely better than their sister site, Metalsucks, but they never seem to go too deep into the underground. The only one of those Blast Beat sites that I find to be worth a damn is Cvlt Nation
  19. Yeah, it crapped out again even as I was copying that list. It's definitely something on their side. Honestly, if Vince and Axl had tried to make that list it would have been way worse. Rhombus is an idiot, but he's still a step up from those two, knowledge wise
  20. Metalsucks seems to be running again, so here's their list (ranks are inverted...Warbringer was number one) Carnal Forge, Firedemon Hellripper, The Affair of the Poisons Exodus, Persona Non Grata Desaster, The Oath of an Iron Ritual Death Angel, Killing Season Death of Kings, Kneel Before None Havok, Time Is Up Toxic Holocaust, Chemistry of Consciousness Sodom, M-16 Hypnosia, Extreme Hatred Black Fast, Terms of Surrender Nifelheim, Envoy of Lucifer The Haunted, The Haunted Made Me Do It Ghoul, Splatterthrash Witchery, Symphony for the Devil Municipal Waste, The Art of Partying Gama Bomb, Citizen Brain Power Trip, Nightmare Logic Kreator, Violent Revolution Warbringer, Woe to the Vanquished
  21. You'd have to be more specific about what incident you're talking about, but I'd say that most likely wasn't them, as they're very "Brooklyn hipster" in their world view of things. They're the site that published some cringe laden "manifesto" about how they were "proud SJW's" and basically had everyone laughing at them for about a month. They also tried to cancel Hells Headbangers one time too. Think they're having issues with the site...it was acting a bit weird for me too when I checked it a minute ago EDIT: Considering I used to be able to find Warbringer cd's at Best Buy, calling them mainstream seems accurate
  22. Dude...you couldn't narrow down to the top 20 albums you liked in the last 5 minutes. It's Metalsucks...like some of the comments in that sections said, it's almost guaranteed they were left off because of the domestic abuse allegations. Rhombus is as much of an NPC as Axl and Vince ever were...and I'm not 100% convinced they don't still run that site, and just let Rhombus do the articles. Would explain why they're covering shit like the fucking Paramore tour announcement. Critical Defiance - Misconception (thrash bordering on Death/Thrash from Chile)
