  1. Hi, Guys. Sorry I haven't replied earlier. Thanks (to the 2 so far who've answered and any who'll do so after). I'm about to play the tracks sent.
  2. I was an avid fan of innovative, largely instrumental music in the 70's and 80s - eg. - Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream, Goblin - when I was about 25. I used to drink in a pub with my brother's metalhead friends and got introduced to metal. One notable event was me watching and later getting the soundtrack of "Creepers" or "Phenomena" as it was variously known, a film by Dario Argento. On it was "Flash of the Blade" by Iron Maiden. I was relatively soon immersed in "metalia". and still am, at nearly 64.
  3. Hi, Guys. This very concept may be considered blasphemous to some (what no screaming vocals?!), but because of my non-metal roots, largely 70s "progressive" music, I still a certain loyalty to this aspect of music. Notwithstanding my love of the vocals of Bruce Dickenson, James Hetfield and the like, I still have a hankering for instrumental bands. Does anyone know of any (preferably death-orientated) bands in this genre? I'd be grateful for any nominations. Thanks in advance - Andrew.
  4. The first thing that comes to mind is to say this is relatively new thing for me, although I've been listening to it since my mid-to-late 20s - I'm now 63! - How time flies! I used to be into long, instrumental pieces. Metal expresses powerful, deviation from the norm, often discordant, using rough, rather than smooth, textures, overall creating a sense of hardness and "things not being right". This I've come to find interesting and fresh.
  5. Anyone like to share any news and/ or opinions about Pirate Metal. When I first came across it, it seemed like a joke, but I came across "Alestorm" and I was taken by their enthusiasm, camaraderie and power. I soon came to think of the situation as a "valid" form. I seemed to be like classic metal, but in a nautical context.
  6. I once heard a question that went something like - "What's got 10,000 legs and 2 breasts? Answer: "A thrash metal concert."
  7. Hi, I'm Andrew. I'm into death metal -Asphyx, etc. aswell as more mainstream stuff such as Maiden, Metallica, etc..
