That was a great documentary.

As an atheist I don't believe in the supernatural but as a fan of horror and spooky stuff I would love to experience it.

I generally disagree with a lot of the ideological/philosophical crap associated with early black metal - eg the overemphasis on Satanism or Paganism, moronic church burning and even stupider murders or the total renunciation of death metal and grindcore. One thing that I do agree with them is that extreme metal should never have got popular. Sure Venom were attention whores (and yeah I like Venom) but most of the other originators of extreme metal never intended for the genre to be mainstream. Eg Hellahmmer, Bathory, Destruction or early Slayer. Even Metallica starts off as a pissed off anti-mainstream beast. Extreme metal like hardcore punk was meant to be an underground counter culture inaccessible to casual fans and essentially subversive. It was meant to be intolerant to the mainstream. Yet what was once extreme metal has become strangely acceptable - you hear classic Metallica and Slayer in movies and TV shows. Death metal or usually deathcore also pops its head in the mainstream and black metal is now a mainstream joke...and then there's stuff like Dethklok Apocalypse which seems aimed at mainstream types. And then all the crass consumerism like the megafestivals, heavy metal awards ceremonies or Nuclear Blast's almost factory approach to churning out similar sounding metal. You read about stuff in the extreme metal industry whereby full on extreme bands now have publicists and stylists! It's completely contrived. It's not so much a maturing as complete commercialisation and conversion of it from a statement of integrity to just another product. And given the modern consumerism is a lot more intensive than what happened in 1980s/90s it has essentially stripped metal of any counter culture value. The all encompassing tolerance of modern metal to everything else has seen it become just anther product. Note I am not talking about Motley Crue or Iron Maiden or Def Leppard or Korn or whatever. I am strictly talking about extreme metal.

No idea. The magazine has been mainstream pop rock garbage for as long as I can remember.

So got up to mid and late 1990s. First a bit of background - Metalion was mates with Euronymous, helped clean up Dead's bloodstains and even funded early Mayhem stuff. So he was in the thick of it. As a result starting about Slayer X he goes full black metal. Understandably there's lots of hate against Varg who killed his friend. --- Anyhow after this things get interesting in terms of interviews. The interviews in the black metal period are extremely toxic. Clearly Metallion had some thoughts here but the bands themselves were in the same boat. The death of Euronymous and subsequent commercialisation of the genre thanks to the murder clearly splintered the scene. As such nearly all the black metal guys interviewed do two things - first they defend how underground and true they are. They then sledge the rest of the scene for being posers. Many of them call for more murder and more church burning and even rape and torture (Gaahl from Gorgoroth obviously acted on anything he might have said). Then about 1998 you can see the Black Metal scene not only got oversaturated (much like "Life Metal" death metal bands in early 1990s) but also lost the plot with so many bands going proggy or becoming too "foresty." What's interesting is you really see the death of the optimism and unity of the 1980s extreme metal scene. Sure in the 1980s the extreme metal crowd sledged the popular stuff but the scene was united. Now it's fractured, divided and bitter. Obviously changed a bit since but a fascinating insight into the 1990s black metal underground. --- Forgot to mention, the website known as the Death Metal Underground is a remnant from this era, albeit degraded and increasingly confused (eg articles on cigars).

Sounds like a semi-deconstructed curry or stew or salad. Though when you eat it it gets mixed together anyway. Even rice served cold with vegetables etc is a rice salad. The ones I have seen advertised locally are all mixed together. My wife has ordered them and got a mixed salad either with rice or just vegetables. Sorry I am like a dog with a bone with this. I hate trends, hipsters and reinventing words with a passion. 3 of my worst pet peeves all combo'd into 1. If there was a city inhabited by people who did all 3 and if I was king of Russia or America I would literally launch my entire nuke arsenal at it and then salt the soil Roman style! 🤬 In fact calling a rice salad a "rice and vegetable bowl" is just making us all stupider.

There's no plates, here only bowls at hipster joints. If anything comes in a size, it's usually large, medium, small. Also bunch of stuff mixed together = salad or stew or curry or whatever.

I think in an ideal world anytime some poorly educated semi illiterate millennial craps on about boomers, the police (or His Malevolent Majesty, Emperor Dead1's Robotic Royal Guard and Enforcement Division) should track them down and chop their fingers with blunt garden shears off so they can never use a device again. This should of course be televised to create a deterrent. Literally the little fucks have no other response. Eg I literally just got called a boomer cause I said most nu-metal was contrived commercial and flogged by labels who saw a quick dollar. And I'm not even a boomer but it irritates me to no end. Also why do restaurants now refer to food as bowls eg meat n veg bowl, poke bowl, pork bowl etc etc? Yet ironically soup is never referred to as a bowl of soup! We don't call it it a steak plate or fettuccine carbonarra plate or fish and chip plate. Again in an ideal world I think these guys would be getting a visit from Robotic Royal Guard and Enforcement Division - possibly their establishments used to test out the accuracy of The Most Holy AGM-114 Hellfire drone launched missiles.

Which is why IMO "man animals" need to be kept under a tight set of rules - social mores, laws etc. Left to their own devices the human is lazy and degenerate and will resort to violence to get what they want. Oh and as I would certainly say some animals have emotions - my dogs both past and present certainly had emotions and moods, even complex ones like jealousy. Others like jelly fish or sea sponges or maybe even insects and reptiles probably don't due to limited or no brain. Could be a mammalian thing only.

No idea what my true ideals are. I suspect it comes down to it I don't really have ideals that I would fight/suffer for. I actually think most humans are the same. We are still driven by instinct even if we sometimes pervert instinct due to our abstract thinking abilities.

I am not confident this will be any good. The original ones were freaky and demented.

Good to have you back Hungarino! As for new releases I am the wrong guy to ask about them! 🤣 I have been digging early Merciless but those were new 30 years ago.

Each day I grow to hate Australian legal and political institutions that little bit more.: 1. Staff at hospital I work covered for a paedophile nurse in children's' ward. Government literally changed the laws so the people involved in the cover up could not be sacked! 2 Australian government has relented and will introduce an anti-corruption "integrity" commission to investigate political corruption. Sounds good EXCEPT the commission will operate in secret in most cases. So either it's smoke and mirrors to cover things up and at worst it could be used as a kangaroo court to hammer minor parties and independents. 3. State government is punishing a juvenile detention facility worker who revealed that several staff were engaged in rape and sexual assault of detainees. One day when the Chinese take over Australia, Australians won't notice a difference because our freedoms and rights will have been so eroded that we are now on par with People's Republic of China. EDIT I just wrote to 10 of our local Federal Parliament members about concerns with secret corruption commision. Wonder how many will even bother to get back to me.

Due to voter apathy and the way Congressional seats are allocated, those 25% can have an outsize impact. We're seeing the same in France and Italy. Eg new Italian right wing government only won 26% of the seats. In France in 2nd round of French presidential election, only 72% of voters voted which is lowest turnout since 1969. Indeed Macron's party only got elected due to collapse of vote in parliamentary elections - indeed in 1st round in 2022 only 47.5% of voters voted. Doesn't help so many intelligent people are bitter and disenfranchised with broken democratic systems. And a lot of the rest of the population is sheeples. I dread to think how few Australians would vote if it wasn't compulsory. Like capitalism, democracy needs actual serious competition and effective regulation to work yet both these things have shrunk over the years. All major political parties now have same ideology (thus reducing choice) and regulation has been sidelined to allow increased influence of lobby groups, political donors etc. Here in Australia political donations are open to corporate and overseas donors. Literally corruption and self interest are baked into the system.
