I think Type O Negative are the gods of Gothic!  Another band that have been in my opinion a success harnessing that kind of essence are Bloody Hammers, listen to the track 'Light Come Alive' from their latest album and see what you think.

I have 2. The first one reminds me of the guy that found me at a vulnerable time of my life and completely changed my life for the better. I had literally hit rock bottom, and had given up on life entirely. It affects me in a very positive way. I've been with this man for 3 years now, and has flawlessly shown me that not all men are narcissistic, shallow and abusive. That song is called "Beating The Blade" by Capture The Crown. The second one I'm absolutely addicted to because it reminds me of the narcissist I was married to for years that I have 3 kids with. The lyrics to the song are actually something I'd say to him. I actually sent it to him because he has refused to leave me alone to this day. It affects me in both a positive and negative way. It makes me angry, but at the same time reminds me that I got out of a horrendous situation, and overcame it with flying colors. That song is called "Feel Nothing" by The Plot In You. Both songs are extremely deep lyrics wise, and give me hope.. Enough to make me love myself again. I highly recommend BOTH.  They give me the "feels" like nothing else.

I seem to have walked into a really lame industrial/nu metal playlist at a local bar, just got treated to Powerman 5000 and some other cut rate shit. Makes me happy they have a patio.

Most of what is called "melodic death metal" these days has nothing to do with death metal at all. I put a bunch of videos up in that melodic death metal thread that FatherAlabaster mentioned (I believe it's in the "other genres" section of Metal Talk), so that would be a good place to check out what melodic death metal is really about. Some of my favorites include Arghoslent, the first 2 At the Gates albums, Crown of Thorns/The Crown, Darkane, mid-period Centinex, Garden of Shadows, Sentenced on their North From Here album, Black Harvest (FatherAlabaster's band), etc...
