Well, apperantly he changed his mind. And honestly, Eclosion and Je Suis d'Ailleurs are not "less" metal then Oiseaux de Proie. Overall, I think Kodama is a great mix between Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde and Écailles de Lune with some very small influences from Shelter and Les Voyages de l'Ame. It is like a combination of what Alcest did before, with focus on the first two albums and some additional influences drawn from Japan. And in special the movie Princess Mononoke. However, Kodama needs to grow on you. The first couple of times I listened to it, it just felt "alright" to me. But after around circa ten spins, the true beauty of the album unfolded to me. Except closing track Onyx, which is just a waste of time. The instrumental bonus track Notre Sang et Nos Pensées would have fit much better. Oh well, in the end it is still a great record which can compete easily with their other albums.
