  1. Well I fucked up. Bestial black seems to be a totally legit genre. What I was thinking of was Bestial HELL Metal, which is totally just something that the Witchclan guy made up. My mistake
  2. Kanye West, and that's only because I get made fun of mercilessly every time I mention him. Whatever, because his last two albums are awesome. Lyrically they're terrible, but the production is some of the coolest stuff I've heard in hip hop.
  3. Would anyone be interested in starting a website? I really like the first idea, and really if anyone has local bands that have done something cool (there's a black metal band in my area called Helgardh that has an album out and have toured with Watain), feel free to arrange an interview and post it. I especially like the idea of supporting the underground, since this isn't about making money we have no reason to cater to what's popular. Translations would also be a neat idea. As far as submitting content, if we go with Wordpress it's super easy, I would give you a password to log in with, and writing and submitting something is practically as easy as writing a Word document.
  4. Agalloch - Pale Folklore You know, I know I'm strange for this, but I'm realizing that this is the only Agalloch record I really like. It's somewhat amateurish, yes, but there's an earnest feeling here that's been replaced by pretension on everything I've heard by them since. Or at least that's how I feel about it.
  5. Sorry guys, school got kind of hectic there for a couple days. So what kind of content do you think we should do? What would you enjoy reading if you were looking for a metal site to follow? I definitely think we should do more than just reviews, there are literally 1000s of blogs out there doing reviews and nothing else. What could we do to set our site apart?
  6. Awesome! I'm so glad so many seem interested. I'm at school at the moment and getting ready to go to class, but when I get back home we can start start figuring some stuff out.
  7. Obituary Septicflesh Anaal Nathrakh Behemoth Yob Sabbat Master's Hammer Immolation Vasaeleth Empyrium Lurker of Chalice Deathspell Omega Ahab Anhedonist Tombs Helgardh (Only rule I had was that I had to have at least one release from each band in my collection).
  8. So as some of you know, for a while there I was writing for Unholy Music. I did several reviews and an interview with NTNR and BAN, which was tons of fun. But unfortunately I ended up leaving, not because I didn't enjoy the work but because I wasn't really caring for how the site owner was acting, and as I understand the site ended up going under shortly thereafter. But I've been thinking lately about how enjoyable it was, and about how it would be really cool to do something like that again. But I really won't be able to do it on my own. Which is why I've started this thread. I just wanted to test the waters and ask if anyone here would be interested on working on a project like this with me. I know we count several talented writers amongst our number. And I don't necessarily want to just do a review site. Interviews, articles that ramble about deep topics (metal related of course), I'm open to anything. And this isn't something I want to be the "boss" of, I just want to be involved. So is anyone here interested? I think we could do something pretty cool. Just let me know. EDIT: Just checked Unholy Music. The site is actually still up, but with a new design. No new content though. My reviews are still there (with no credit given to me, of course...), and the website is... odd. The about page in particular is a bunch of what-the-fuckery. Oh well, who knows with that guy. I'm not going to worry about it.
  9. It does seem to be in the air. I've never really talked about my relationships much at all here until the other week in the boob thread. And it's funny, my ex's best friend's boyfriend left her this week with no warning, and one of my best friends nearly ended up breaking up with his girlfriend (who is also probably my very closest friend - talk about awkward). What a miserable month
  10. Just had my Metal Breakthrough. What was Yours? My metal breakthrough occurred when I was 15. Up until that point I was pretty much exclusively a fan of '70s prog and was pretty close minded towards metal. I particularly loathed aggressive vocals, so the only heavy groups I had given the time of day was stuff like Dream Theater (yuck) and some classic metal, none of which truly caught my fancy at the time. Then one day I just happened to see a video online about Mastodon (this was around when Crack the Skye came out). I was impressed by the complexity of some of the guitar parts and intrigued by the band members talking about being influenced by Pink Floyd and King Crimson. A couple days later I saw Crack the Skye at the store, and decided to go for it. Changed my life. At first even the relatively tame vocals on that record were too much for me, but there was something that kept drawing me back in. It's such a heavy, psychedelic journey. And before long it was my favorite album, and I wanted to know more and more about metal. And I even started to not only tolerate but love aggressive vocals. So from there I discovered Opeth (at this point I was still searching for bands that had some connection to prog rock, some comforting familiarity I guess), who were my gateway into death metal. Then Burzum and Emperor for black. And since Mastodon talked about Neurosis a good bit, I decided to check them out as well. All of those groups played a huge role in shaping my taste today. Something clicked in me when I put on that Mastodon record (and then clicked a whole lot more with the other bands I mentioned above) and I understood what was so awesome about this genre. And even though I've taken breaks, ventured off and explored everything from bluegrass to hip hop and industrial, to name just a few, metal seems to really be my home genre, and the one I get the most passionate about.
  11. You know honestly I've listened back to their stuff recently and it's not doing anything for me. Maybe I'll get back into it but everything I'm hearing just isn't turning me on for some reason. I used to like them pretty well.
  12. That is seriously the coolest thing anyone could say ever. Welcome
  13. From my perspective at this very moment they do. Or at least any positives that the unknown future mate may have over the ex matter... hard to explain honestly. Maybe I just want something different. The last was a surprisingly close minded atheist hippie with a dislike for tattoos. At the moment all I want is a girl who's into metal, covered in tattoos and is at least slightly open minded. It'll fade
