  1. Welcome. I too prefer the older styles - 1979-1993 is my preferred metal era.
  2. Arse end of 1979. Agree on pre snd post TV generations. TV was as revilutionary as the internet and smart phone in terms of changing lifestyles, perspectives and values.
  3. I abdolutely loved it even though some things were changed from the game. Extremely well made show! Gen X is just Boomer light.😁 (I am gen X). I actually think that a new paradigm is needed- Pre and Post Internet and Post Smart Phone. Those who never experienced life pre-Internet or Smart Phones have dignificantly different life perspectives and experiences than those who have only lived with those technologies.
  4. About to watch it tonight. Looking forward to it as I am a huge fan of the game.
  5. Gatekeeper - From The Western Shores Epic Heavy Metal. Out 23 March 2023 on Cruz Del Sur. https://gatekeeper.bandcamp.com/album/from-western-shores https://youtu.be/IYu_KeyOCCk
  6. Chapel - Satan's Rock 'n' Roll Cradle of Filth - Dusk And Her Embrace - in celebration of the first dreary, cold, wet day of the year (yes it is still summer). Midnight - Satanic Royalty
  7. Especially if ones want their arsehole looking beautiful.
  8. I didn't know that about samurai - thanks so much! Long daggers were also often issued to western archers/ranged troops as self defence weapons.
  9. Morbid Angel - Domination Man I love this album. So riffy, so well written and at times so pissed off! Cancer - Death Shall Rise Also one of my favourite DM albums. Pantera - Far Beyond Driven Really been digging Pantera of late. Possibly excited about a probably-not-but-I-can-dream Aussie tour.
  10. You're surely not talking about cops. In my experience they're just there to ensure the bureaucratic notion of justice is carried out. Most of the time they don't even respond to calls in my experience. They don't even stop drink drivers - I know three people who were caught drink driving and let go without being charged despite being well over the limit. I was one of those, my brother the second and my best friend of 30 years the third!
  11. Pretty much. Always disappointing. I much prefer realistic action to Hollywood action (except in Spaghetti westerns!). It actually implies a lot more personal risk to the characters and it also makes their actions more heroic. I actually generally don't like superheroes. My favourite comic "superhero" was the Punisher - a violent dude with guns who would get shot, beaten and generally injured. Much better than invulnerable Spider Man or Superman or even Batman who literally have no risk when smashing the crud out of badguys.
  12. Act of Impalement - Infernal Ordinance Meaty riffy death metal. Out 2 February on Caligari Records
  13. Toxic Holocaust - Primal Future: 2019 One of my favourite modern thrash albums. Act of Impalement - Infernal Ordinance Obituary - Dying of Everything Revocation - Netherheaven These guys just get more and more meh as time progresses. Sure they're technically skilled but they lack the ability to write interesting music. All the thrash seems to be removed and they're now purely a technical death metal band with some melodic leanings.
  14. We've discussed this before but Vikings Valhalla shows how daft modern casting is. Whilst all the major characters are "ethnically correct" or have a plausible story as to why they are there, the extras make it all look ridiculous. You have: - Black and Asian Vikings (should be pale Norse) - Blond haired pale skinned Pechenegs (should be darker complexion, dark haired Turkic people (ala Turks or Azeris) possibly with Asiatic features (eg like modern Kazakhs). - Pale North East Asian Byzantines (should be darker complexioned Greeks but also Arabs, Turkmen etc). There was also some pale skinned Byzantine warriors but they could be explained as Varangian Guard - Vikings and Saxon mercenaries used as Emperor's personal guard. By the way I really enjoyed the show but it was sometimes jarring to watch the scenes where they show Asian and Black Vikings getting riled up about paganism when they would most likely have retained their own religion instead of converting to Christianity! (I also get peeved off at the battle scenes. The early seasons of the original Vikings show had more realistic combat eg use of shieldwalls and axe men to break the shieldwall down - the newer one has reverted to Hollywood sword fights. Pre-firearm combat as well as early firearm combat in Europe (and elsewhere) was dominated by polearms like spears, halberds, pikes etc. The polearm is cheap, has longer reach and requires less training than a sword. The sword was seldom used as a primary infantry weapon - I think in history only the Romans and Japanese used swords as the principle combat arm in terms of infantry combat. The sword was primarily a sidearm much like a modern pistol (there were exceptions - Roman legionaries, Japanese samurai, some cavalry, and specialist Zweihander mercenaries equipped with large two handed swords).
  15. Sorry I missed Onslaught!
  16. Also Sabbat, early Skyclad and Onslaught. The Exploited got more metally later on in their career. Onslaught were the pick of the bunch in my opinion.
  17. Conjureth - Parasitic Chambers These guys manage to really capture some classic 1990s death metal vibes. to
  18. It also means no back catalogue acquisitions! 😢 Where are you planning on going?
  19. I think my appeal is the more older school coverage - I prefer metal from 1980s and early 1990s to new stuff. I've found a few ancient bands I've never heard of before.
  20. Talk about a massive commitment - as we want to save up to go to Europe in 2024 for which we need a metric button of cash, I have promised not to buy any new albums in 2023-24. 😳 I have 2 Sodom CDs on back order and that is it for next 18 months!
  21. I like the best of older obscure metal stuff cause I find out new old bands I might have missed. Didn't look at the Reign in Blood article until you mentioned it. It's essentially a review which is fine. I think the multiple pages is to generate add revenue - I see this done a lot even on political science and international affairs publications like the National Interest. Most metal websites don't feature hard hitting articles. They're all essentially click bait. - Metal Sucks, Metal Injection, Revolver, Invisible Oranges etc etc. I hate Angry Metal Guy because the reviews just waffle on and I hate Heavy Blog cause it really isn't about metal anymore and also has that element of pretention AMG has. The only other metal blog/site I like is Your Last Rites. https://yourlastrites.com/ The best articles around are still Zero Tolerance and Decibel mags. Both are well written, reasonably well edited and feature some great content. Only problems are Zero Tolerance uses tiny font that I struggle to read even with my jacked up new prescription and Decibel is unavailable in Australia but I do go on their online site.
  22. Anzillu - Ex Nihilo Somewhat off kilter thrash metal band - Kreator* meets Revocation with ton of melodic death metal and a odd prog bits. Out now on M-Theory Audio *Certainly more interesting than recent Kreator efforts! Trastorned - Into The Void Old school thrash metal from Chile. Out now on Dying Victims Productions.
