That's the only way to look at it in the end. Just Italy. And you bet it cost a motza but you can't take it with you. I can read - and in theory speak - a bit of Spanish and I didn't want to mix my limited Spanish up by attempting Italian.

Italy from north to south with Mrs Thatguy then finishing in Rome with 10 days in the middle driving in Sicily with the daughter and the son and the son's wife. We had a great time of course but totally over fucking churches despite their physical beauty. The Catholic Church is a profoundly strange institution but I should think most of us here knew that. I listened to music really only on the flights to and from - with waiting around times it was a 36 hour or so process to get to Italy and the same to get back - and on the excellent trains because I wanted to interact with Mrs Thatguy. The daughter made me listen to pop music when I was driving with her, oh dear. I have come back to a luxuriant and totally overgrown garden but it's rainy again so I can't do anything about it yet. Flying in everything was so green around Canberra. Not what we expect at all.

Much as I love music, this is a narrative of my life.

Such is life. We were gracious in defeat and unlike the Panfer chodes would have been gracious in victory. I had a great day with the son watching both the Eels women and men lose...I am old enough to not let this burn me up, but not too old to give up hope of seeing them win before I'm done. By way of consolation, Thatguy and Mrs Thatguy are off to Italy tomorrow. We will be away about 5 weeks and in the middle will spend 10 days in Sicily with the daughter (who is in Iceland at this moment) and the son and Mrs Thatguy's son. I'll be back when I'm back.

Nice trip. I am off to Coledale this morning (on the coast north of Wollongong) for the wedding (second time out) of my oldest friend - I met him in primary school - tomorrow. Will be a really, really nice occasion - his second wife (to be ) is a good person and suits him well and should see him out. It is a no gift wedding - they are not kids and don't need stuff - but I had to do something for him, so I wrote a Wedding Fanfare for brass quintet and percussion - about a minutes worth of music, short and noisy like a fanfare should be. My budget doesn't run to hiring and rehearsing the musicians so its all MIDI but it sounds pretty good I think. Then on Sunday the train to Sydney to meet my son and we are off to the epoch making Grand Final to witness the vindication of the eternal underdogs. GO EELS and fuck youse all.

I listened to a bit of this because of the name. It sounds exactly as the band photo looks and is not my thing at all of course. It's really well played and nicely produced though. There should be more slab related band names.

I could go on at great length about why he was wrong, why it didn't matter in the course of the game, how it was evened out by egregiously wrong decisions to our disadvantage later in the game, but I know you are just baiting me and I don't give a flying fuck. We are going all the way!

True. We need this. But it's the Cheaters (the Riff, the inbreds etc) who will get the clean sweep if they win. No pasaran.

People just want what they are used to and get upset when they don't get it. I don't listen to 'Back To Times Of Splendour' often these days, but it is a great album. 'Gloria' is entirely different and clearly that upset people. It surprised me when I first heard it, but in some ways it is a better album than 'BTTOS'. Certainly it is better produced, and the songs are more focused. It could be a different band though. The 2019 album was too self consciously like BTTOS - some songs really were clones of earlier songs. It's OK, but I never go back to it. I am interested in what the next one will be like. Something completely different? I think I would feel the same about Obscura live as you.

MO'YNOQ - A Place For Ash. Rather good. FALLUJAH - Dreamless. I think they peaked with this album.

And in addition to that, when the Eels win I will bore you all with a player by player ratings and commentary. Or not. Thatguy is very excited and nothing anyone can say will change that.

Mick couldn't cut it in the modern game, of course. Not fit enough and not strong enough. He had amazing skill though and played his last season with almost no vision in one eye after his team mate - Steve Ella I think - accidentally poked him in the eye. I don't think about those old days much - too long ago and the game has changed so much and I am all in for the current generation. It's the Riff vs the Wabbits tonight to see who we play. Wabbits only hope is ultraviolence so we hope for many suspensions and the kind of injuries that are not serious but keep the player out for a week or two. Also Latrell Mitchell - Wabbits best and a great player - will hopefully have his usual brain snap and get sent off. Whoever we play I will be there with my son and good will triumph over evil.

It's a Meh from Thatguy. It's not terrible but it's a bit plodding and I could only call it good if it were something I would want to listen to again. And I don't.
