  1. Ah, Norfolk is my favourite holiday destination. Welcome.
  2. For the rest of this month, you can now download "A Vow to the Wolf" with a 50% discount; making the price just £2.50. Go to the Bandcamp page (A Vow to the Wolf) and enter the following code during checkout: "vownov50".
  3. Metal Church, circa 1986-1998? Not quite the same, but he left the band in a performing capacity, yet kept writing for them.
  4. In retrospect, given the criteria for the list, I'd probably agree on removing Carcass. However, I'd probably stick Entombed in, just for the sake of being different. I never understood the whole Possessed being the progenitors of death metal thing. I don't see them as any more death metal than Slayer.
  5. I seem to control the music in our office (there's three of us). During working hours, I keep it quite inoffensive (light jazz, classical, and blues). However, during lunch time it's all guns blazing (currently listening to"The IVth Crusade")...
  6. I enjoy most types of BM, but I gravitate more towards the post-black styles.
  7. I've been playing guitar since 1991, but I don't consider myself in any way accomplished. I dabble with bass, but more as a necessity than anything (I'm a rudimentary follower of the guitar in that fashion). I growl, if the voice is to be considered an instrument (which, it is), but wish I could sing clean (I sound like a dying sea-lion).
  8. All day long the answer to this question will be Bolt Thrower. They were the first death metal band I ever heard (back in 1990, I think) and, as such, hold a special place for me.
  9. I don't think it can. In some way, I don't like the idea of boiling creativity down to a formula. That's how you end up with commercial-grade music.
  10. The new Satyricon was a massive waste of time. And, sacrilegiously, I'd have to add the new Paradise Lost too.
  11. Right now I would have to say: 1. Pallbearer 2. Enslaved 3. Vaura 4. Katla 5. Avatarium It could well change tomorrow though.
  12. Indeed. I guess it depends on by what criteria we're judging it. If it's the same as the Big 4 of Thrash (i.e. record sales), then it'll be a pretty boring list. I'm looking forward to seeing what people genuinely think to these lists though.
  13. Big 4 of Death Metal? 1. Death 2. Morbid Angel 3. Obituary 4. Carcass I guess these lists are going to be heavily subjective.
  14. Thanks for the welcome, and sorry about the rule violation.
  15. My first metal album (discounting the glam stuff that was the gateway) was "...and Justice for All", which I copied onto tape in 1989. A friend and I got into metal at the same time, through the same album, and although we shared the same taste for a while, he started listening to cheesier stuff, while I went headlong into darker territory.
  16. Hi, all. My name is Steve, and I'm the sole member of Gallieria I'm not what you'd call an expert on Black Metal, but I do love metal in general. I write music that others have described as post-black; I don't quite see the connection myself, as the vocals are more death/hardcore, but there we are. I used to play in quite a variety of bands, but I've found myself focusing more on Galleiria as I've become older; too many projects became a chore. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting involved in some healthy discussion, and expanding my horizons and knowledge as I go.
  17. Afternoon, all. Galleiria have just released their new album "A Vow to the Wolf". You can listen to it here (and purchase it, if you like what you hear...!) https://galleiria.bandcamp.com/album/a-vow-to-the-wolf I've been told there are references to Agalloch and Wolves in the Throne Room throughout, and has a general post-black metal vibe. I'm not sure myself, but it's a guide if you need it. Anyway, if you like it, please let me know. If you don't like it, please also let me know (be gentle, though).
  18. By the way, I have a new Galleiria EP out, which is a slight progression on the last. You can hear it here: of frost and folklore part i | Høst Recordings
  19. DIY Death/Punk/Grind or something (I'm shite with genres). Have a listen and let me have your thoughts... A Waste of Four Minutes | souldrift recordings
  20. Hello. My name is Steve, and I play in various different bands and projects. One of which is loosely tied to Black Metal. You can hear some of my work here: forlatt | souldrift recordings
