  1. I feel compelled to say Bethlehem post Dictius te Nactane is unlistenable garbage, but that and the debut Dark Metal work for me. NP: Moon Incarnate - Hymns to the Moon (2024) [Germany] This, at times, sounds like it could be a My Dying Bride album. That’s not a bad thing, certainly it’s not as derivative as many other MDB clones, this is for the most part, just fine, i’d probably listen to it again. The issue is it ends up sounding too much like MDB, I get the feeling that if I were to play this immediately, after one of their records I’d think it was the same band. There’s also some weird flourishes in places that I found very distracting, took me right out of the music
  2. Curse the Australian time zone, I missed a whole Black Metal discussion… Again. So okay I’m much too lazy to go back and multi quote instead I’ll pull my usual trick 1. For our fine French fiend when it comes to Bathory you’re almost certainly better off ignoring everything they did between Twilight of the Gods and Nordland. 2. Beherit’s raw, and filthy debut is slightly underrated in my view, and Drawing Down the Moon is to my ears, at least quite excellent. 3. To each their own but much like the old goat, I have very little tolerance for symphonic BM, especially if it’s driving the sound rather than being a background feature. I can barely tolerate keys in Doom Metal and I think they bring more to the table in that regard. 4. Plenty of killer BM has dropped in the last decade, I’m a little surprised, the old man left Inquisition from his list, unless my admittedly, barely working eyes deceive me. NP: Inquisition - Black Mass for a Mass Grave
  3. Lost Off-roading Across Denver ABLE
  4. Slaughter in the Vatican was cool, ranks among my top, 50 thrash albums, but outside of that Exhorder do nothing for me. NP: Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal i’m learning When Cannons Fade currently, mostly because I thought slowing it down to play a dummy version would be a good idea
  5. Crowbar’s particular blend of sludge may not appeal anyway, but damn kind of jealous that you even had the choice to see them or not, metal shows a few and far between in my neck of the woods, and quite often those that do make. It are certainly not worth attending. Crowbar - Time Heals Nothing
  6. My friend there is very little that goes on here I take seriously,
  7. that’s the funny thing about taste, though isn’t it? Not only does our own shift overtime, but it will be completely unique to the taste of those around us, thus we will view what is and isn’t filler on an album differently. I.e I consider My Dying Bride’s Feel the Misery to be entirely filler, with the exception of, and my father left forever, while I happen to know a former user here regarded that record as among their best work.
  8. I think you’ll find in the land of the blind it’s the one with the longest cane who rules the proverbial roost, mostly by virtue of tripping over the least shit… the proverbial roost, mostly by virtue of tripping over the least shit… Also, all us headbangers more than a little bit crazy? I know I am. I had a third point, but I forgotten what it was going to be. Probably something as equally unfunny as the first so perhaps it is best forgotten… NP: Sadistik Exekution - We Are Death, Fukk You
  9. I tend to go through phases where I will, either very much care about the lyrics of a band, or not care at all what that screening about. As I’m currently starting to write lyrics for my own project I imagine I’m about to enter the phase where I care once again.I tend to go through phases where I will, either very much care about the lyrics of a band, or not care at all what that screening about. As I’m currently starting to write lyrics for my own project I imagine I’m about to enter the phase where I care once again. NP: Type O Negative - Slow, Deep, & Hard
  10. I don’t know what those new genres will be, but I’m sure something will come along. Honestly, the hunt for new music is almost an addiction for me, especially now that I have the means to discover and buy new albums again. Come to think of it. I have the same attitude towards food and whiskey, by stick with the same old reliable when there’s so many things out there to try. That being said, I can’t wait for the new Ulcerate to drop. NP: Hades - Again Shall Be
  11. I think it’s just a sign of how much my taste has changed over the years, it’s not that long ago that I was probably the guy defending Iron Maiden and like but increasingly I find I only have an appetite for the extreme side of metal.
  12. It’s funny, actually, not that long ago I would’ve considered it blasphemous if someone said Judas Priest weren’t essential listening. Nowadays, I’m the person saying it, and while we’re at it iron maiden, suck too.
  13. I don’t think I was clear, to get to 12 tracks. I think you need to include hell, vengeance, and defenders, but I personally think British steel is at least as bad as sad wings. Now then 12 tracks… 1. Beyond the Realms of Death 2. Starbreaker 3. Freewheel Burning 4. Hellbent for Leather 5. Dissident Aggressor 6. Screaming for Vengeance 7. The Ripper 8. Jawbreaker Okay, putting my hand up here and saying I was wrong there’s only eight priest songs worth listening to in my opinion across their entire catalogue okay, putting my hand up here and saying I was wrong there’s only eight priest songs worth listening to in my opinion across their entire catalogue
  14. I think if you took the highlights from Sad Wings through to Defenders you could end up with a pretty good 12 track compilation. I will resend my earlier comment regarding stained class though, having spun it for the first time in over a year after posting that my view has certainly changedAh Judas Priest, for a time, quite a long time. Actually, they ranked among my favourite bands. These days, the only album I find even remotely palatable is Stained Class. The best thing to come out of painkiller was that time death covered the title track in my opinion.

  16. Death Metal Promotions is down now too. A shame I found a few killer records through that channel over the last year also.
  17. where we stand on most subjects. It’s more a case of, we need the fresh blood draw up Conversations so we can rehash the same old style opinions. The old goat, you’re good self, and I all more or less know where we stand on most subjects.
  18. I’ve hardly had any time in the last couple of weeks to check out any new stuff, so I’m devoting a little time to that today while I can. Admittedly, it has been mostly unremarkable doom or stoner/doom but then there’s this: Pthumulhu - Tungumal Svarthola (2024) {Iceland} Which happens to be some cavernous funeral doom/death. Reminiscent of Thor’s Hammer
  19. Both my uncles used to race those back in the day, used to be good fun watching then as a kid.
  20. I’m somewhere in the middle, there are certain bands that only have one album I consider worth hearing, Cradle of Filth for example, others with a few good albums, but overall nothing I would consider essential listening see At the Gates, some bands whose entire discographies I consider near flawless see Inquisition, and the odd album that I consider essential, even if I dislike most of the bands other releases, see Katatonia’s Dance of December Souls. Oh also, for the record SoP is my favourite Death album.
  21. Welcome, as has been mentioned previously we are a rather small community here, but on the bright side that means it won’t take too long for you to come to grips with the various personalities here. See you around
  22. Whilst I doubt anything I have to say will be all of that enlightening I might as well chime in with my two cents on the matter. I wouldn’t say that I hate slipknot, as a band, anyway, I am completely indifferent towards them. I will say, however, that I hate what they represent, because what they represent is the watering down of metal in order to create an image and sound which appeals to the masses. It is the antithesis of the spirit of metal, and it’s not new. We saw the same thing with“hair metal“ in the 80s.
  23. Never mind the Orca, i’m sure you’ll find where a perfectly pleasant menagerie of miscreants. Oh and welcome
