  1. I think it’s just a sign of how much my taste has changed over the years, it’s not that long ago that I was probably the guy defending Iron Maiden and like but increasingly I find I only have an appetite for the extreme side of metal.
  2. It’s funny, actually, not that long ago I would’ve considered it blasphemous if someone said Judas Priest weren’t essential listening. Nowadays, I’m the person saying it, and while we’re at it iron maiden, suck too.
  3. I don’t think I was clear, to get to 12 tracks. I think you need to include hell, vengeance, and defenders, but I personally think British steel is at least as bad as sad wings. Now then 12 tracks… 1. Beyond the Realms of Death 2. Starbreaker 3. Freewheel Burning 4. Hellbent for Leather 5. Dissident Aggressor 6. Screaming for Vengeance 7. The Ripper 8. Jawbreaker Okay, putting my hand up here and saying I was wrong there’s only eight priest songs worth listening to in my opinion across their entire catalogue okay, putting my hand up here and saying I was wrong there’s only eight priest songs worth listening to in my opinion across their entire catalogue
  4. I think if you took the highlights from Sad Wings through to Defenders you could end up with a pretty good 12 track compilation. I will resend my earlier comment regarding stained class though, having spun it for the first time in over a year after posting that my view has certainly changedAh Judas Priest, for a time, quite a long time. Actually, they ranked among my favourite bands. These days, the only album I find even remotely palatable is Stained Class. The best thing to come out of painkiller was that time death covered the title track in my opinion.

  6. Death Metal Promotions is down now too. A shame I found a few killer records through that channel over the last year also.
  7. where we stand on most subjects. It’s more a case of, we need the fresh blood draw up Conversations so we can rehash the same old style opinions. The old goat, you’re good self, and I all more or less know where we stand on most subjects.
  8. I’ve hardly had any time in the last couple of weeks to check out any new stuff, so I’m devoting a little time to that today while I can. Admittedly, it has been mostly unremarkable doom or stoner/doom but then there’s this: Pthumulhu - Tungumal Svarthola (2024) {Iceland} Which happens to be some cavernous funeral doom/death. Reminiscent of Thor’s Hammer
  9. Both my uncles used to race those back in the day, used to be good fun watching then as a kid.
  10. I’m somewhere in the middle, there are certain bands that only have one album I consider worth hearing, Cradle of Filth for example, others with a few good albums, but overall nothing I would consider essential listening see At the Gates, some bands whose entire discographies I consider near flawless see Inquisition, and the odd album that I consider essential, even if I dislike most of the bands other releases, see Katatonia’s Dance of December Souls. Oh also, for the record SoP is my favourite Death album.
  11. Welcome, as has been mentioned previously we are a rather small community here, but on the bright side that means it won’t take too long for you to come to grips with the various personalities here. See you around
  12. Whilst I doubt anything I have to say will be all of that enlightening I might as well chime in with my two cents on the matter. I wouldn’t say that I hate slipknot, as a band, anyway, I am completely indifferent towards them. I will say, however, that I hate what they represent, because what they represent is the watering down of metal in order to create an image and sound which appeals to the masses. It is the antithesis of the spirit of metal, and it’s not new. We saw the same thing with“hair metal“ in the 80s.
  13. Never mind the Orca, i’m sure you’ll find where a perfectly pleasant menagerie of miscreants. Oh and welcome
  14. as Spinal Tap would say crank that up to 11 would you? Welcome to the forum.
  15. Treest - Scapegoats (2024) [Germany] Solid, albeit predictable, doom tinged death metal. It’s fine though.
  16. I’d sooner go deaf then subject myself too such a show.
  17. I liked Cabin in the Woods, but I do tend to avoid most of the meta-horror. You’re right though very few horror films these days get me genuinely excited about the genre.
  18. I’m with Orca here, I actually think it’s an issue with many modern horror films, they have an interesting concept, and maybe have a dozen cool scenes, but the overall package is less than impressive. Now, I know it’s not realistic to expect modern horror to be pumping out new films, the quality of the exorcist, the thing, Blair, witch, project, scream, nightmare on Elm Street, etc, but I also don’t think it’s too much to ask we get at least one movie every couple of years that isn’t a convoluted mass.
  19. Mum’s made it abundantly clear that we’d have to drag her kicking and screaming if we wanted to put her in a retirement home once she reaches that age, so that definitely isn’t an option. With that being said, I don’t need to worry about that any time soon.,
  20. Desperate Eclipse - Inner Ruin (2024) [Germany] minimalist Funeral Doom, think disEMBOWELMENT
  21. That’s exactly the problem I’m running into, frustrating as all hell when the riffs I’m writing are palm mute heavy.
  22. That’s how I felt about that variety when I tried one recently. Safe to say there’s better reds out there.
  23. That sounds like more hassle than it’s worth. Honestly, I’ve got a pretty clear idea the sort of tone I’m looking for though and I’m just not getting it with my current set up. Truth Be Told, I’m about halfway there, but i’d probably be better off, playing around with my amp, a little more, if anything, I’m just getting frustrated because I can’t quite seem to capture the feel I’m going for.
