1. Sounds very Diamond Head. Not bad but I do wonder if the rest of the album will be anything like it. Metallica hasn't released a consistently good album since Black album (and I like Load).
2. Gamma Ray - Land of the Free II
3. Bathory - Requiem Bathory - Octagon Sodom - Better Off Dead
4. Morbid Tales, Emperor's Return and To Mega Therion are musts- totally phenonemal stuff. Proto death/black/thrash with riffs to die for!
5. We have a kidney shaped roundabout in Lonnie. According to the Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania roundabouts are often used inappropriately as a cheap fix instead of traffic lights let alone readjustments to traffic flow sich as rebuilding roads. Superb review and thanks for writing it up. I probably still won't listen to Swans but I enjoyed reading it. Dead Kennedies - Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion I
6. Navy, That sucks big time and I don't envy you!
7. So how long doe those gummies last? And is it the same as actually smoking it or heavily diluted? EDIT: One reason why I like filling angry and enraged is because I literally feel awake and alive instead of in some sort of fugue state that I usually exist in. Indeed right now I am at work but my mind is barely here. And no I don't do any drugs!
8. Mate of mine used of have those kinds of bongs. They were all horrid to smoke out of and in the end nothing beat an old Iced Coffee bottle with a bit of garden hose. Though I learned by 18 that I couldn't stand effect of dope. I'm already foggy a lot of the time and I just hated getting stoned. Didn't dig ecstasy either - it just made me feel sober. Now dexamphetamine was something that I could understand though tried it once and thought "nah, I don't need to go down that rabbit hole" after seeing mates on speed shooting up. Only slightly better than dope but still horrid was a legal medication they put me on called lyrica (pregabailin). Fuck that shit. I felt like I was literally not in my own body. Basically booze and coffee are my preferred poisons. Nekromantheon - Rise, Vulcan Spectre Nocturnal Bleed - Aggressor https://youtu.be/uNRmFgY-Y5w
9. Tyrant - The Lowest Level Hard to define/describe - there's elements of thrash but mainly a modern take on heavy metal. Some comment described it as a mix of Sanctuary and Metallica which is pretty sound. Due to vocals and somewhat mechanical approach, I'd say mix of Sanctuary and Evile. Not bad at at all.
10. I am surprised some band and especially KISS hasn't already released band themed floor tiles.
11. So you're saying I need to get the vinyl version of Into The Pandemonium so I can just listen to the "metal" side? 😁 At least that way I'd get to enjoy that awesome album art!
12. I agree if it's done well and not with overt commercial intent. It's funny how often bands "evolution" somehow is always more mainstream, softer and more commercial than their previous material. It's rare for a band to get more extreme - Pantera and Skid Row come to mind but that's it. Dan Liker's another one - from speed/thrash to crossover to death/grind but he did it through different bands (Anthrax, SOD, Nuclear Assault, Brutal Truth). Metallica are an interesting case - somehow I don't think they had as much input into their creative direction as we might think due to them being a serious heavyweight. The label and management went into overdrive promoting Black album before it was released. Indeed Load and Reload didn't see them just change sound but also image. It all seemed extremely manufactured. James even mentioned how much he hated that whole period. Obituary - Slowly We Rot
13. I guess I'm just a basic bitch. I don't really do avant garde or even a lot of progressive or technical metal. For me Morbid Tales, To Mega Therion and Emperors Return are where it's at with Celtic Frost. I don't mind Vanity/Nemesis despite some commercial Megadeth vibes. i do need to revisit Monotheist.
14. Oh wow, that's unexpected! I've actually enjoyed the last two (Eternal Hails and Astral Fortress) and Arctic Thunder. Old Star was a bit tedious.
15. Just ordered Ironhawk's Ritual of the Warpath on LP. Also picked up Darkthrone's Astral Fortress on CD.
16. Celtic Frost get bad reviews for Cold Lake but to be honest I think Into The Pandemonium is just as big a "what the fuck moment." I can actually sit through Cold Lake whereas Into The Pandemonium has quite a few really frustrating and irritating movements. I do wish Into The Pandemonium kicked arse because it has one of the greatest album covers in metaldom!
17. Very good album indeed! Definitely leans more to thrash than speed - basically early Teutonic thrash.
18. Totally agree on both. Bloodbath especially seem to be a spent force.
19. I suspect in a hundred years metal is largely forgotten. Nothing lasts forever. What remains in museums or with odd music history specialists will be at best the big name bands - Metallica, Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, Slipknot. But then the internet does makes things live long past their use by dates so who knows.
I think there is a market in apocalypse proof music formats.
I don't think civilisation will collapse. I think instead humanity will continue devolving back to older systems more akin to 19th century laissez faire economics or earlier. So you might have advanced technology but it's only beneficiaries will be the rich. Everyone else lives in conditions similar to Brazilian favelas or Indian slums. This is already the direction we've been heading for 40 years and nothing much is changing. So more Elysium with Matt Damon than Mad Max. Though there's been some good news recently - male sperm counts have apparently dropped by 62% since 1970s. By that rate, human are basically extinct by 2200. Good riddance to us. Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings
20. Aura Noir - Hades Rise Deathhammer - Electric Warfare - blackened thrash of course. Fuck I am becoming so one dimensional with my metal. Hammr - Eternal Possession - noisy blackened speed (probably closer to pure black metal). Yep totally one-dimensional.
21. Seriously? So they want a poll for best album but don't want people voting for stuff they don't like? Man that is hilarious!
22. It's not like Nuclear Assault have been doing much save odd gig. I even did a review on Third World Genocide on M-A (before Morrigan banned me for some perceived slight): https://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/Nuclear_Assault/Third_World_Genocide/83932/Dead1/6129
23. Not yet. Still undertaking tests etc. In fact waiting for blood to be taken right now. I usually drink 4 cups a day.
