These guys (and gal, their guitar player) made the trip all the way from Portland to play in front of 20-25 people in some buttfuck northern Canadian city. First proper live metal show I've seen since before the pandemic. Very grateful!

And like him, I'd leave if I could, though I'm less optimistic that there are significantly greener pastures out there. Our options seem to be... A.) They also really seemed to subscribe to a "quality isn't subjective" ethos. There is objectively good and objectively bad music, and of course they're the only ones with the authority to ordain such things.

I think Blackbraid is perfectly fine. It's nothing special, but neither are the never-ending wave of one-man, bedroom, raw black metal projects. And black metal fans seem to have no problem gobbling up that tsunami of mediocrity. As for it getting a big push because the man behind it is Native American? I dunno, could be. I find it to be a breath of fresh air, personally. Something different from yet another Scandinavian or eastern European larper screaming about "muh pagan/viking heritage".
