  1. Starting off with Burroughs and ending with Rainbow just made my day! Hahaha! Does anyone else enjoy the fact that the name and look of this Artform both came from gay men? Take that, homophobe Metalheads! The Soft Machine is an awesome book - if you can handle odd literature. Killer band, too.
  2. No one followed up on this? Did you get to see the show and if so, how was it? Exodus live is awesome!
  3. Original version or remixed? Bobby Beausoleil - Lucifer Rising Soundtrack Kenneth Anger's film always runs through my head when I play this. Makes the work day a little more interesting when you live in jesus country.
  4. Thank You! Have you heard the new Swans album, 'leaving meaning'? "Fuck Yes" is a worthy reaction to it. I was amused at the "gateway cassette" description. I did have years of bands like Van Halen, Ozzy and Kiss floating around, but Metallica really changed everything. I had seen the video for 'One' first, as most kids from my era. I bought the tape either that weekend or the following one and I haven't been the same since. For the sake of detail, I also bought Bon Jovi's - 'New Jersey'. Guess what style won...
  5. 44. Monstrosity - Imperial Doom I just happened to be listening to this album while reading through the thread and see no reason why I shouldn't go ahead and give it praise now. Most Metal audiences know about Corpsegrinder and his many years fronting Cannibal Corpse, but before that, dwelling in the infamous Florida Death Metal Hell, he was raging in Monstrosity and their debut album, 'Imperial Doom' is one of the best to come from that legendary early 90s era. I first heard the tune 'Ceremonial Void' via the life-changing (for me) Nuclear Blast compilation, 'Death is Just the Beginning 2', and shortly after I tracked down the VHS comp of the same name, sans the 2 (not an easy task in those days, folks), and that had a short interview with Corpsegrinder and Mark Van Erp before launching into the video for 'Final Cremation'. The rest, as they say, is history. Such fine stuff. As time has flowed, this has grown into one of those important Metal albums I simply couldn't imagine not having. The songs are all total ragers and each member's performance is pure aggression! You can't fake the real thing. John Rubin's guitar work is the best Thrash and the best Death blending together. Just listen to those riffs, the attack. The solos sound like moments out of Horror or Sci-Fi cinema. Van Erp's bass guitar sounds like it's being punched repeatedly and asking for more. The insane drumming from Lee Harrison that is both loose and tight, and has better blast-beats than most Black Metal records. And of course, Mr. Fisher's vocals are that which actually sound like a psychotic demon - something lacking from oh so many "Metal" vocal performances. Of course, a great album benefits from a great cover and Dan Seagrave's offering here is #3 of my top three Seagrave covers. (I shall save what numbers one and two are for when I comment on those albums. Whether I post about them or someone else does, both will certainly be on this list.) As far as I have seen over time, this album remains sadly underrated. I cannot recommend it enough! Mandatory Death Metal!
  6. I was introduced to Death with the Human album and followed Chuck's shifts up until his untimely end, so I have a specific connection to the more progressive material. Out of the catalog, I play Scream Bloody Gore and Individual Thought Patterns the most, but I enjoy Sound of Perseverance to its predecessor, Symbolic. That one has always felt a little forced, and since Chuck had been openly talking about wanting to disband Death and do more Classic Metal/Prog hyrbid stuff (which of course became Control Denied), it wasn't surprising that Symbolic was a little hollow. That said, I enjoy both of those albums, but SoP tears their collected heads clean off. SoP lives up to its title, in a lot of ways. Perhaps it feels a little rushed? Perhaps it's a little frantic? Perhaps Chuck just wanted to shut all the doubters up once and for all with an album that, to this day, stands completely on its own. Who can say? It's all subjective. Someone thinks only the first Mantas demo has value. So what the fuck? The live footage I've seen/heard from the Sound of Perseverance-era is nothing short of ferocious! Underrated line-up, certainly. I do agree that the Priest cover is filler, in a manner of saying. A worthy album in any Metal collection!
  7. I neglected to return the questions. How is everyone doing? And please feel free to share some of your favs, also. Swans rule.
  8. Hello! It's the end of my work week and I have a box of records to play when I get home - so I am well, thanks! I can find something enjoyable in just about every genre. But if I have to keep it condensed, I'll list a few bands I've listened to over the last few days: Beherit, Deiphago, Hulder, Sangue, Pheretrum, Winter, Profanatica... Non-Metal, lots of Swans lately... I've been into Metal since I bought a cassette of ...And Justice for All when I was nine. I'll be 41 soon.
  9. Hello to the forum! I am not involved in the social media version of reality, so being here is a little strange. However, I enjoy conversation and the search for like-minded individuals in the part of the world I live in is getting to be rather tricky without it. A Classic forum is my compromise. Other words will be in other topics... Ave!
