RULES! **READ BEFORE POSTING**

Recommended Posts

Members of Metal Forum, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

We all know rules are boring, but ask yourselves, what's a tyrannical dictatorship without rules? Chaos. And that simply won't do, because we mods rule with an iron fist!

Please speak English in these forums.

Breaking the rules will result in a caution and thread-lock.

Repeat offenses will be met with a permanent ban. You have been warned.

Strict guidelines:-

  • DO NOT post racist, sexist or homophobic remarks.
  • DO NOT bully other users or make physical threats.
  • DO NOT post links to or discuss illegal downloads.
  • DO NOT disseminate other users' personal information.
  • DO NOT post pornographic material (or anything that could be seen as such).
  • DO NOT post spam.
  • DO NOT advertise services or products for sale (unless given permission).

General tips:-

  • Be civil and polite to other users, even when you really disagree with them! Mutual respect is important.
  • Do not create huge signatures with lines of images. It means more scrolling, and that's not fair on our poor mouse wheels and trackpads. If your sig is any bigger than the one on this post, it's too big. If your sig disappears, it was deleted for being too big.
  • If you repost it, you'll annoy other users and the mods. This will result in an eSlap. If a thread is clearly going to be locked, don't spam it with remarks like "This thread is going to be locked". You're just bumping a crappy thread.
  • If you're not sure where something should go, post it in General Chat.
  • You aren't a moderator, and acting like one isn't cool.
  • You can swear all you like, but targeting abuse at an individual will be treated as bullying.
  • Try to keep Rick-rolling to a minimum.
  • Make your thread titles relevant to the content.
  • Search the forums before posting news articles to cut down on copypasta.
  • If you want a thread to be stickied, include "Sticky please" in the title. If it doesn't get stickied, it isn't worthy. Deal with it.
  • If you feel your thread is NSFW, warn people in the title. Think before you do anything illegal. We will work with the authorities for great justice.
  • Generally being excessively crude, irritating or attempting to troll for lulz may get you banned at the discretion of the moderators. Respect their decisions, they are only enforcing the rules. You can appeal a ban, but we will be checking logs to assess your offence, so don't try to lie about it.

If you have any issues or suggestions, there is a place for them here. If you have any questions about the forums, post them in this thread but please, read the FAQs first!

Do album covers with pornographic images count?

Album/Band names that are in foreign languages?

Just thought I'd check before I posted anything.

As long as you use common sense you should be fine. For example, we have a thread in the forum games section dedicated to the female form, but nothing overly sexual or pornographic in nature is posted. I also highly doubt the album/band name thing will cause any issues.

so dont post racist sexist shit? so dont be a dick

You make it sound so easy. Some folks have gotten away with both, but fuck their lily white asses. Welcome to the forum, and please make an introduction of yourself in the introductions area if you are at all inclined to do so. mention something about your musical taste if you would, as that will be of general interest.

Which is why it's best to start out with an introduction thread about yourself, I notice you've since done that, and lurk a bit to see what sort of community you've engaged and whether it is one you'll enjoy being a part of. FA was technically correct in that such a broad thread given our varying tastes is redundant. Metal is a huge genre, sufficient in size to merit a plethora of sub-genres, so there is not possible way to effectively answer your question. Thereby making the thread redundant.

One last point - posting about issues in the "READ THE RULES" thread was another mistake. This thread merely lays out the rules by which our community is governed and was not intended for any other purpose. In future please direct complaints to either our site moderators (myself, FatherAlabaster, and BlutAusNerd) or our site admin DilatedMind thank you.

    • Black metal is the snow-covered forest at sunset; the full moon glimpsed through jagged trees; the candle that flickers in ghost winds; the indelible emptiness of the lonely human soul that cries out to empty skies.

    • I’ve been watching a bunch of nature documentaries recently. Dangerous animals only, for the most part, because I refuse to devote an hour of my life watching turtles mosey around the deep blue. Additionally, I’ve sought out very in-depth material so I can appreciate the animal being analyzed. As a result I’ve been able to watch a decent amount of material closely scrutinizing the habits of predators, and that’s given me a particularly good context for understanding Sadist’s 2015 album “Hyena”.

This album is intended to track the habits of a hyena. Seems a bit on the nose, but bear with me; the album’s style is important. The album takes the listener on a markedly violent safari in an open-top jeep. Feel the wind in your hair, enjoy the natural splendor of the savannah, watch some animals murder and/or eat each other. Bring along some Mango Jive but for goodness sake leave your droewors back at the hut. Musically, as far as the metal goes – it’s a technical death/thrash album with the ferocity of the latter and the substance of the former. The vocals are higher-pitched snarls, characteristic of Sadist and perfect for the concept; in fact the entire production isolates the smooth bass to allow for moodier lines from said instrument.

I’ve always noticed that in the grand sweep of folk metal African music usually gets left out. Makes some sense – I’ve heard quite a lot of traditional African music and it’s way too happy and tropical. Then again, Dan Swano, Skindred and even Equilibrium have managed to make Caribbean music work in metal, so it’s not impossible. The next best thing is something thematically evocative, which is what “Hyena” represents. It’s not perfect; Sadist could have paced out the textures better and deepened the nature sounds, perhaps taking influence from the largely untouchable Russo-Finnish metal masters Second To Sun. That being said, it’s a one-of-a-kind work and Sadist deserves credit for taking their vicious brand of tech-death on a sun-bleached adventure into the wild.

    • After listening to both albums, I am having difficulty deciding which I think is better.  Both have excellent songs and guitar work, and express the atmosphere of Burzum extremely.  Personally, however, I think that the vocals are delivered better on Filosofem.  Filosofem also has more songs, but the 25 minute synth track is not as good as Tomhet.  What do you all think?

    • Post photos of your various collections here!

Here are three shots of my black metal collection. The first is the whole thing, but i've also included two closer shots that should be clearer when zooming in etc.

    • On BM scene there are also good worth of attention female vocalists. Some of my fav bands.

1 Astarte - All female black metal band from Greece. In my opinion Tristessa is one of the best female growler.

2 Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - Onielar and her growls and style are something amazing. Nothing more nothing less.

3 Gedanken Toten Lebens - Interesting one-woman atmospheric black metal project. Lyrics are about naure, death and philosophy.

Who is your favourite black metal female vocalist? Do you like these bands? Or maybe you think black metal isn't for women? Let's start the discussion!
