  1. Haha, thanks! I seem to like all Metal genres except for Power, Glam and this whole wave of generic Deathcore with dodgy dance music implemented really awkwardly (like The Shitting!). Not too big on traditional Metal, either (I dig Sabbath and Motorhead, though), but I guess I'll give anything a try! I'd definitely like to get into more Doom... stuff with super-heavy riffs like My Dying Bride or Electric Wizard!
  2. Alice in Chains letlive. Gallows Glassjaw Coheed & Cambria
  3. Yes, absolutely. I was prepared that there would be the odd band that's popular here, but I hadn't come across, but I was surprised how little I do know compared to some people on here. It is ultimately a good thing as I'm always wanting to expand my musical horizons (beyond Metal, as well), but it is a little daunting knowing how much music there is to check out and trying to know where to start! I seem to like bands from most Metal genres, but kind of like a handful from each, unlike these other guys who could probably name hundreds! I dread to think what it must be like for a 14-year-old newbie who listens to nothing but Slipknot, Metallica and Korn... A headache, most likely!
  4. Awesome band! Addicted to Grey Britain!
  5. Thanks! It's funny... I don't know anyone in person who's as much of a Metal fan as I am, but on coming onto this site I'm really surprised at how much I don't know and (relative to a lot of people on here) how mainstream my tastes are! I mean, it's kind of cool to see how much more Metal there is for me to explore and I've still barely scratched the surface, but it's a little daunting!
  6. Cheers. I'll be sure to check them out! Where would you go next with Mogwai? I'm guessing I should just go through discography chronologically, right? Any real stinkers I should be aware of?
  7. Lol. No, I haven't. I'm a pretty late convert to this kind of stuff! I watch(ed) the Metal Hammer podcast on Youtube and they often talked about non-Metal (yet still pretty heavy) bands, and that's how I found Mogwai. Downloaded their first album, Young Team, and really starting to appreciate the awesomeness of it after subjecting myself to repeated listenings!
  8. Depends whether this means my 5 fave bands or 5 bands I'm listening to/enjoying most atm. I'll assume it's the latter as it's hard to pick another 2 after Sabbath, Alice in Chains and Sepultura to form my 5 fave bands. With that in mind then: Deftones 36 Crazyfists Mogwai Meshuggah (most Metal band on the list!) letlive. Not a very 'Metuhlz' list, but these are probably receiving the most playtime right now. Other honourable (and more Metal-friendly) mentions would be Dying Fetus, Lamb of God and Decaptated. I still do listen to shit-tones of Metal. It just happens that the bands I play the most right now aren't *as* Metuhlz.
  9. Ok, what about: Helmet Marilyn Manson Therapy? Chevelle Glassjaw Hatebreed Soundgarden Melvins
  10. Koloss- Meshuggah!! Definitely joined with Deftones and Lamb of God for my favourite album of last year! so crushingly heavy, brutal and groovy!
  11. I'm drinking a cider now, actually, called 'Thorn Brook Strong Artisan Cider', which is lovely. Not very sweet, but not too dry at the expense of the proper apple taste. The subtle sweetness is just a natural bittersweet apple kind of sweetness. I'd like to try that beer. Kronenbourg 1664 is the only generic non-craft lager I'd say I'm particularly a fan of. I had the other Kronenbourg in France: the 4.2% version sold often in red and white boxes, I think? Basically the 'Bud Lite' of France. Would be pretty interested in their wit bier, though.
  12. That's interesting. My experience is definitely quite similar to BAN's, though. Higher ABV beers to generally seem to be more flavoursome to me. It was just a nice surprise to find a weaker beer that can also hold its own. I do tend to favour beers over 5.5%, though. The higher the better! I guess my other reason for favouring the heavy-hitters is that, unlike other beer drinkers, I don't like guzzling down pints and pints of sessionable beer. I'd rather have a smaller quantity and volume of stronger ones. The same effect, without that awful bloated feel or the dreaded 'beer belly'!
  13. I notice that the preferred beers of most beer fans tend to be pretty high in their ABV. On most beer sites the top rated beers seem to be Belgian Tripels/Quads, Imperial Stouts and double IPAs. I find that beers with a high ABV tend to be richer, fuller bodied and generally more flavoursome. I wonder if you guys also enjoy the odd weaker beer? If so, which ones are your favourites? I ask because I'm currently drinking a Darwin's Origin by the Salopian brewery based in Shrewsbury. At 4.3%, this is a much lower ABV than I generally drink, but this is a lovely brew! Very hoppy and spicy, as well as pretty rich and full-bodied, which I have rarely found in a beer of this sort of ABV before!
  14. Delirium Tremens is their most well-known one and indeed delicious. I just prefer their 'Delirium Nocturnum', though, being a dark beer fan. Definitely check it out when you can! I love their fruit one, 'Delirium Red', as well. I will get some 'Delirium Noel' in for Christmas as well; pretty excited to try that. I really love Rochefort and also really enjoyed Westmalle, but found it to be a pretty typical Belgian Tripel; not particularly unique or special. Still a very solid brew, though. Can't complain too much about a generic tripel as it's such an awesome style!
  15. I wondered if you had any other recommendations for what I can do that may have passed me by?
  16. Thanks for the warning, haha! I was kind of afraid the Rock club scene would be as you described. Basically the same as regular clubbing but with, well, different music. :L I will still check it out, I think. I'll also look for some good pubs that do quality beer. Found a couple already. The younger generation hasn't quite caught onto good beer like I believe they have in the states, so straight-up craft beer (or real ale) pubs are often frequented by much older people, which is fine, but I'm unlikely to start hanging out with them. Also, the friends I have don't like drinking or going to bars, which makes it more difficult!
  17. Hey guys. I was wondering what you thought about Rock clubs? I guess I'll start at the beginning. I'm 18, have just completed my A-levels and will now be studying through the Open University. I'm excited to start the course, but am a little worried I'll get into a routine of not going out and engaging with the outside world much anymore; I don't wanna become a recluse who spends his life behind his computer screen and playing his PS3. Specifically, I'm looking to get out and meet like-minded people. I have a few very close friends and can't complain too much about my current social life, but I'm wanting to expand my horizons more and it'd be great to meet more musically-minded people similar to myself. I'm a bit limited as I live in the countryside and am a fulltime wheelchair user, so access can also be an issue. The best way I can see to meet new people is to go to a Rock club the odd Friday or Saturday. I don't know an awful lot about Rock clubs and don't want to throw myself too far in the deep end. What do these clubs tend to be like? I'm not interested in proper 'clubbing' in the way that most 18-year-olds seem to be. I just wanna go somewhere I can chill out with a few drinks, listen to good music and meet people with similar interests. I do tend to be a little reserved by nature (nothing too serious), so wonder if there's a way I can go to this club and, for the first couple of times, not be the centre of attention and keep my distance from the action a bit: you know, take it a bit slowly? Thanks for reading and sorry for my ignorance on these matters, lol.

  19. And make sure it uses the words 'from' aplles' not 'with' apples. With means loads of other crap, plus a couple of good apples... 'from' means near-enough 100% apple juice.
  20. I couldn't agree more. The only thing I like that remotely falls into that category is the odd Belgian lambic. I get really pissed off with cider getting a bad rep because of all the crappy Strongbow, Bulmer's etc. Proper English cider (made FROM- not 'with' handpicked apples) can be truly delicious. I don't know how widely available these are in your country, but look out for almost anything by Thatcher's, Weston's or Sheppy's... or anything that seems to resemble craft cider.. Generally any vintage cider above 6% ABV is pretty much guaranteed to be good!
  21. I'd recommend Duvel Tripel Hop as well. Enormous hop presence in that brew, but still distinctly Belgian!
