Welcome. Don't mind Macabre, there are no "wrong answers" - he's desperately searching for a spark of human connection and would prefer honesty to a sugar coating. He wasn't too disappointed when I told him I'd actually thrown my shearling slippers away after discovering they were infested with moth larvae.
He certainly won't try to track you down at your home, or anything like that.

Well, twinkletoes, I wasn't specifically talking about your review of it, but hey...

I'll have to finish it. I wasn't put off by it, I liked it, just one of many things that didn't seem to live up to the accolades at first blush.
NP: Moonspell - The Antidote ...palatable pop-goth-radio-rock-metal at its most average. I haven't heard this in years. Best thing about these guys was their live show, they always played well.

All ya gotta do is call me. What's the point of knowing an immortal homicidal vampire cacodemon and not using him?

Indeed. I subsist solely on a diet of cocaine, whiskey, and bitches, so roofing is really no problem.

Had an 8 hours round trip trip today for a half an hour meeting.  On the plus side I got my vouchers from work and got to play my new Starbucks game.  Basically, I go into Starbucks and place my order and when they ask me for my name I give a ridiculous name so they have to shout it when my order is ready.  So today (I think I was high off flu medication) I gave the name Fennice - telling the barista it is pronounced "fen-ee-chy".  Then when the girl shouted my name incorrectly with my order I made a point of correcting her pronunciation.

Who messes that up? What a poorly educated, inconsiderate person. I bet she had the nerve to pronounce it "Fennis". Obviously destined for a short, mediocre life, with no fulfillment, stuck behind the dirty counter of whatever establishment is short-sighted enough to hire her.

Well I say "recruiting" - "thawing out" is a better term.

EDIT - I really like this which I had no expectation that I would.  This is a very energetic return to form for Megadeth.  Very much steeped in old school thrash riffs but enough new influences to appeal to a wider audience within metal.  Nice work Dave.

MacabreEternal given a Damn from GorboGorboze in What Are You Listening To?
This is the very essence of extreme music to me.  Me and the girlfriend have had the debate on a couple of occasions about my more extreme tastes.  She listens to very accessible music in the form of pop music in the main and finds stuff like Diocletian impossible to fathom.  I tell her that sound and style aside, Diocletian (or whichever act) are performing just like the artists/bands in her music library.  They are baring their soul/speaking to me as a listener just as Celine Dion is doing so on her warbling songs for her.  They are just letting rip with total effort, total abandon for convention or for fitting into a particular box!
The difference is that accessibility,  the effort and delivery of the music speaks better to me sometimes the more extreme it is.  As a kid growing up (before discovering metal) and even now when I catch snippets of mainstream music - which I am not bashing - it all just sounds the same, same music, same topics, same message, same delivery.  If that is what people enjoy then all power to them and those artists for reaching out to them, but I recall hearing a Portal album for the first time and sitting there thinking "Wait a minute, this is going to take some unravelling."  Give me that all day.
I avoided using "craftsmanship" deliberately - although I understand what Gorbo is driving at - and substituted it with "delivery".

Well, I went looking for this on Youtube, and listened to just a bit of it and some of the other blackness next to it. I can't see myself ever coming around to listening to the more extreme types of metal with any enjoyment I guess. I get the appeal of it to some degree. I kind of dig the album art of those bands with it's deeply satanic or luciferian imagery. Also I recognize the skill and effort that many of them put into their art. And here is the thing that I most appreciate about that stuff, that it combines anti-aesthetic goals with what, for the sake of this post, I'm going to refer to as "craftsmanship". That puts it in contrast to hardcore music (the comparison is meant to be helpful, not to bust on hardcore which is it self not without merit in my view).
Anyway I've been thinking a lot recently about the best use of musical effort, if that phrase makes any sense to anyone. I've been thinking about the aesthetic qualities of music and weather or not they are contributory. Serious musical composition is full of it, just like most other types of music are full of aesthetic niceties for better or worse. That aesthetic stuff is like a show of fitness, or a display of understanding and intellect. Mostly it operated in the realm of tonality (that is to say melody and harmony) and reveals the prowess of the makers. The virtuosity on display in the solos of lots of metal laid down by lead guitar players for the most part is also an example of that sort of thing, obviously, kind of like List and Paganini did of late, and to me it can appear vulgar. At least when I'm paying attention to it, it seems vulgar. The creation of mood is more my speed, and that is done more with tempo and tone as far as I can tell. So there is an indication of what I would pursue from the list of musical qualities, should I have the skill to do so.
I have the skill already, it is the work habbits that I lack, to sit down and record what I'm already able to do. I'm weak in the areas of pitch and harmony, so my whole post here may be an expression of sour grapes as far as that goes.
But back to what I'm trying to say. I like the power that music has to create mood, and I dig a slower tempo and not too much chaos, so that is why I don't like Black Metal, because it's mood is not the mood I want, but that said, I think that it is amazing because it is so mood focused with it's reliance on tempo (which is to say rhythm) and tone quality over melody and harmony.
After listening to some black metal this morning I retreated into some old stuff, specifically Manilla Road - Invasion. There I found a taste of the chaos that was too strong for me In Diocletion, Septuagint, Psudogod, or Odraza.
Someone posted on the forum a while ago that visual representation of revolutionary forms of art more easily gains appreciation than music does. I guess that may be true for me, so I'm not giving up on black metal just yet.

I liked "Aura". Haven't listened to it in a while, though. They need to put out an album already.
Just listened to Wormed - Pseudo-Horizon, a promo track from their upcoming album. Sounds like Wormed, no surprises there. I'm looking forward to the album, and it'll be released on my son's birthday, so that's fun.
