  1. Re: Your favorite death metal bands? Dying Fetus, Nile, Death, Divine Heresy, Brujería and Napalm Death are the ones I like when I say I like death metal. Melodic death metal is also to my taste, paticularly In Flames. Some deathcore's good as well, Whitechapel, Job for a Cowboy and Suicide Silence. Nothing brutal, though. Despise Cannibal Corpse, Bezerker or anything like that, even I have my limits. I don't like the lyrical themes of a lot of death metal bands, when it's all about violence and gore. I instead prefer political sort of themes, but with the great death metal sound
  2. Re: Who is the best out of the big 4 ??? I don't know why the four bands were even likened to each other in the first place. Yeah sure, Metallica and Megadeth to a certain extent, but then Anthrax are an anomaly in that they're East Coast, not West Coast like the other three, and would instead be likened to Overkill in both location and sound, which was heavier than Metallica and Megadeth but not as heavy as Slayer. Slayer, on the other hand, are the true odd one out in terms of sound. They are far heavier and should instead be compared to Kreator, Testament and Exodus
  3. Re: Judas Priest or Motorhead? The majority of Priest's material was done during the 80's, and the NWOBHM which they were key members of was a metal trend of the 80's
  4. Re: The Official Country Of Metal Poll It really does vary between sub-genres, and where they were invented/popularised. For example, it would be United States for thrash metal, Sweden for melodic death metal, Norway for black metal and Finland for folk metal, but it would have to be the United Kingdom for metal in general - this is where the earliest metal/hard rock of the working class began. Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio and Motörhead. Shame it's not like that in Britain today
  5. Re: Metal Bands in South America Kamala and A.N.I.M.A.L. from Brazil and Argentina respectively on the groove metal side of things
  6. Re: Metal Bands in South America You've got Parkway Drive, who are legends, as well as Alchemist. Better than anything we have in Britain anyway. We have next to NO metal whatsoever these days, besides the gayass screamo/post-hardcore/pussycore. It's been like that for the last 20 years, after the primetimes of the bands that invented heavy metal - Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motörhead and Dio. America has it all now. Going back to South American metal, don't forget Tom Araya from Slayer is Chilean. And there's a little bit of Mexican metal like Brujería too, I know Mexico isn't in South America, but hey.
  7. Re: Which Sub-Genres Have The Best Lyrics? Not unreal, OTT lytics like in most death metal (gore and rape and violence), thats for sure. Or black metal (Hail Satan and the occult), or nu-metal (cars and women), or gay mainstream screamo (nothing different to the lyrics of pop boy bands). Early metalcore (Hatebreed, Earth Crisis, Converge, Discharge), groove metal (Pantera, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch), grindcore (Napalm Death, Cattle Decapitation) and crust punk (Amebix) often generally give relatively good, meaningful, real and topical lyrics (if you can work out what they're saying that is). Lyrics on a band basis as well, such as Disturbed, Dying Fetus, Rise Against, Rage Against the Machine, Anti-Flag, etc. Punk and hardcore-style lyrics done in metal context are the best ones
  8. Re: New thrash acts? Sylosis are at the same standards as the thrash legends, they're the new Metallica, but better
  9. Re: List your very Own Big 4 Thrash Acts TESTAMENT!!! Machine Head Slayer Sylosis
  10. Re: TESTAMENT - the most underrated Thrash Metal band ever ? Testament are better than any of the Big Four. Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth may be legends of thrash and god-like or whatever but they definitely have nothing close to the legendary sound of Testament. They are heavier, more metal-like than any other original thrash metal band, the vocals, guitar and drumming are awesome and their sound has pretty much given birth to much of the actual heavy metal we have today. I would replace any band in the Big Four with Testament, and in fact I would consider them to be the fifth band of the Big Four of thrash metal. And they just got even better with time, certainly in Formation of Damnation, unlike bands like Metallica who just turned shit and mainstream after the 80's and betrayed thrash metal
  11. With the understanding of The Big Four comprising of Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth, who would be the fifth band of the Big Four of Thrash, so next significant after those mentioned. Personally I would say Testament, I certainly prefer them to any of the Big Four as they're heavier
  12. Re: Metal Bands in South America Nobody has mentioned Sepultura! They're one of the most famous thrash metal bands around. Then there's Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Korzus, Sarcofago (all Brazil) and Agony (Colombia)
  13. This seems to be a major divide in metal, which of the two magazines is to one's preference. Personally I would say hands down Metal Hammer, but pretty much every other metalhead I know is a Kerrang enthusiast. I just find Kerrang too mainstream and drifting away from metal towards pop/alt. rock. But anyway, state which one you prefer
  14. Re: Judas Priest or Motorhead? It's all about Motörhead, certainly since I saw them live. Lemmy is literally metal royalty, he's up there with Ozzie, Dio and Dimebag. They're unique, whilst priest just sound like any other band from the 80's
  15. Re: METALLICA vs megadeth Metallica for their early stuff (anything up to Master of Puppets) before they became mainstream and non-metal, then Megadeth for their later stuff when they became real metal. So really Megadeth picked up from where Metallica left
  16. Re: Download Vs. Sonisphere In fact it won't be long before JLS, One Direction, Ed Sheeran and The Wanted are playing there
  17. Re: SEPULTURA Goddamn, motherfucking, kick ass drumming
  18. Re: PANTERA VS. LAMB OF GOD Groove metal, which both bands are like the kings of, is definitely the most awesome form of metal in existence, and they're both in my Top 5 favourite bands. Chris Adler is an epic drummer, and Dimebag is an epic guitarist. Probably Pantera by 0.1%, but I practically worship both of them
  19. Re: Download Vs. Sonisphere Download, without a doubt. Black Sabbath, Metallica and The Prodigy (I know, they're not metal, but they're good) are all playing there in 2012, and Sonisphere is way too mainstream. Their lineup will probably something like Bring Zme the Horizon, Bullet for my Valentine, The Blackout, Gallows, Your Demise, Asking Alexandria, Breaking Benjamin, Framing Hanley, Lostprophets, Enter Shikari, You Me at Six, 30 Seconds to Mars, and all the other shit of the British 'rock' scene which now seems to dominate Kerrang
  20. Re: Who are your current top 5 bands? 1. Disturbed 2. Slipknot 3. Pantera 4. Lamb of God 5. Motörhead
