  1. Judas Priest might also be my favorite THM band, but my fandom ends in 1990.
  2. Awesome James! Hope it lives up to your expectations. Long Hail the Metal Gods.
  3. Dang, that's quite the lineup!
  4. That Meze 109 looks sweet and I'm sure are the bomb, but at $800 on Amazon makes it a serious purchase. Sold out atm on drop. I'll have to think how important portability is? Hmm. I'm notoriously indecisive, over analyze just about everything in life and take forever researching before dropping coin. I mean, I like the idea of having a low profile alternative to IEMs listening on my music player in the house or my office at school. But really, since I've got my LCD-3 in my dedicated rig and are harder to drive, the main thing is that I'd just like a good mid-fi can to plug into my laptop whether at home or work that I can drive easily with my Dragonfly and aren't fussy. Hey thanks guys for all the beta.
  5. We've talked about this before, but I've been meaning to get a side grade medium-fi reasonably portable option, but mostly for home use that pairs well with metal and rock ($200-400) as an alternative to my IEM's. I've got my "nice" Audeze HP's that I keep in a dedicated rig, so just looking for something that's more low profile or at least plug and play into my Draggonfly USB DACa/amp that I use with my laptop and potentially portable with an Ipod/music player. I'm considering. : Bowers & Wilkins P7 Wired (lowest profile of the bunch) Hifiman Sunandra Sennheiser HD 660, 650 or Sennheiser 6XX(not low profile) Meze 99 (not low profile)-I know Navy is a fan of these If anyone has experience with any of these, holler!
  6. Yeah, the city should definitely be liable at some level!
  7. Crap, F.A., I'm sorry to hear that. That sucks. We had a big issue when hurricane Sandy came through. In a way we got lucky, especially since in our area in MD we didn't have flood insurance but the sump pump failed when we lost electricity and we didn't have a generator at the time and home owners kicked in luckily. But it was a fight with the appraiser. She nicked and dimed us for everything. I know those kinds of events can completely turn your life upside down. Fuuuck!
  8. Ihsahn/Ihsahn 2024-first time listen, I thought interesting, but nah, not for me. Now, the album's growing on me-the symphonic elements are incorporated pretty well without sounding cheesy. Lucifer/V-nothing spectacular, some might say dad rock and boring. 70's retro bullshit, but for some reason, I'm digging this album. The Smile/Wall of Eyes (non metal) '24-basically the songwriting duo of Radiohead....super laid back, jazz infused and beguiling and for some reason, I've been digging on this in the way I might have enjoyed Steely Dan's Asia album 40 years ago. Sun of Nothing/Maze Eternal Storm/A Giant Bound to Fail Nadja/Labyrinthine Farsot/Life Promised Death
  9. what did you think of the orchestral version? I gave the studio an initial listen the other day...

    Books?

Assuming he can pull off an American accent and can "man-up" for the character (I mean he literally played a eunuch), I kept thinking of this guy from Game of Thrones: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varys#:~:text=Lord Varys is a fictional, television adaptation Game of Thrones.&text=Introduced in 1996's A Game,of whisperers in King's Landing. . But he's got the right look and he can definitely play a sociopath
  11. You've got a selfless attitude and appreciation for the elders in your family. That's a hard situation, but you obviously feel up to it and proud to be asked but it is a really big commitment. A lot can change in your life quickly. Thanks for sharing.
  12. I'll double down on F.A.'s Swan recos-those are all really good picks. I've also never heard of Underground Youth. Now say Sonic Youth and then we can talk.
  13. WTF? You might be running a fever. Interesting album tho. NP: Integrity-Howling for the Nightmare Shall Consume (2017) -forget all this retro NWOHM and bogus so called proto metal copycat stuff, many albums from which I, in fact own, if you want to find classic metal, the best stuff is imbedded in extreme metal of one form or another like this Integrity album. WP (was playing): Woe/Quietly, undramatically
  14. Checking out some new stuff: The Obsessed/Gilded Sorrow-par for the course...generally like Wino's output but not much has changed since the 80's-haha. Spirit Caravan is probably my favorite era/Wino band. Hard for me to object to mid paced, bluesy, whisky soaked 70's hard biker rock, tho. Madder Mortem/Old Eyes/New Heart-somehow, never listened to this rather interesting band In queue: Ihsahn, Farsot, Eternal Storm, Sun of Nothing..

    Books?

With the passing of Cormac Mccarthy last year, I decided to take a crack at some of his writings and started with his magnum opus, Blood Meridian, one of the most difficult and rewarding books I've ever read up there with Shakespeare and Faulkner. It's based on the real life "Glanton Gang" in the 1850's, who were hired by the Mexican Government to scalp Apache Indians during the Mexican-American war and became ruthless killers, eventually becoming so depraved in their violence that the scalp hunters became outlaws wanted by the Mexican Government. The book is a game changer for me. 10 out of 10. And, it gave me insight into the world of Wayfarer as way of inspiration-in terms of an anti Western upending notions of manifest destiny. The West was won through genocide, greed and indiscriminate violence.
  16. I enjoyed Kill on Command from 2011. Actually, that's the only Jungle Rot album I've ever heard.
  17. Great report Navy. I luv that you do those cruises! I'm a big MDB fan. Such a constant discog. Big fan of Turn Loose the Swans that I only bought a couple of years ago and Angel and the Dark River is a fucking classic. For the aughts, I really Dig Songs of Darkness Words of Light from 2004. For Lies I sired (09) is also really great. Doesn't surprise me that Blind Guardian was good. I love their output up through Night at the Opera, where IMO they lost the plot. Their earlier thrashy albums are killer. Imaginations, Tales from the Twilight World and even Nightfall in Middle Earth are all favorites.
  18. Krieg/Ruiner Chelsea Wolfe/She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She (pre released tracks) said to be in a Trip Hop vein which, admittedly I have little familiarity other than a loose connection to hip hop....gothic and electronic with distorted guitars....bringing to mine Zola Jesus...but no doubt will defy classification. One thing for sure, this ain't neo folk. I dig it based on the 4 tracks available on Bandcamp. Kampfar/Til klovers takt Necrowretch/Swords of Dajjal👍
  19. I'm not a huge fan of citrussy IPA's but this one is very nice. At 9% it's quite refreshing, surprisingly.
  20. STONE Downunderstruck IPA-Alc/vol 9% I'm a fan of Stone IPA's. Stone says, Australia is well-known for being the home of flora and fauna that exits nowhere on earth. Among these creatures, you can encounter some unique and highly sought-after hop varieties. Only in Oz can you find Galaxy, Ella and Vic Secret hops, which lend striking tropical fruit, citrus and peach flavors to this boong behemoth of an IPA . Originally releases to commemorate our 19th anniversary, this is a recipe that's garnered consistent rumblings requesting its return, as steady and powerful then sound of didgeridoo... My verdict-pretty fooking good!
  21. Sulphur Aeon-The Scythe of the Cosmic Chaos
  22. Necrowretch/Swords of Dajjal -listening to the 3 pre released tracks on Bandcamp.
