  1. Fred Frith - Solo Concert at MÓZG, ok so the dude makes weird noises with his guitar. I don't know much about jazz, but apparently at one time he used to play actual music. Now he's just avant-garde. Svallowed, what's that, your attempt at a German accent? Do you normally read album titles in your version of the accent of the country they're from? I certainly do.
  2. You're the thrash guy aren't you? Or the closest thing we have to one around these parts currently. You should brush up on your BAT history. Otherwise maybe we'll have to make Hungarino the designated thrash guy. Or Deadovic maybe, he posts a fair amount of thrash.
  3. It's completely different with inanimate objects. It's still A wheelbarrow, but obviously not the same wheelbarrow. With people there's no such thing as replacement parts of the same model. All human replacements are by definition a completely different model. Yes of course I've done this, the question is why haven't you done it? It wouldn't cost you anything Doc, what have you got to lose? Although clearly you fall well outside the typical Slayer demographic. Wouldn't pay $5 to see either one of them, original members or not. With a free ticket and open bar I might consider watching Vio-lence if I had nothing else to do that night, but only if it were with Bobby G in and Sean out. Killian's participation would be an absolute deal breaker. How can Vio-lence be a "pioneering" thrash band? They were part of the second wave of BAT, their debut album didn't come out until 1988. That's called trend following my friend, not pioneering. BAT was on life support by 1991/92, it's hey-day a distant speck in the rear view mirror.
  4. Sick of It All - Just Look Around, NYHC 1992 Sick of it All - Call to Arms, NYHC 1999
  5. Frozen Dawn - The Decline of the Enlightened Gods, Spain, fell asleep last night around 4 am before I could post this definite future purchase. Finally in March I'm starting to look for current year stuff again. Had only picked up five 2023 albums until last night. REZN - Solace, Chicago, heavy trippy psyche/stoner. Not my usual kinda thing as a good portion of this is super mellow, (there might even be a few seconds of tasteful saxophone at 30:30) but I'm shifting gears here, been out cleaning snow off the car and shovelling the driveway and I'm in cool down mode now. Enjoying my late morning coffee as I get mentally prepared to go downstairs into the cold unheated kitchen and continue wet sanding my concrete countertops. What a fucking mess we're making, we've got plastic over everything, the sander sprays the cement slurry everywhere in all directions. But the island's looking good at 400 grit. Gotta take the faucet off and do around by the sink today.
  6. Problem I have with Burial Hordes is they had that one incredible album Incendium in 2014 which was my intro to the band, and nothing else they've ever done has measured up to that one imho. It's like they changed their sound and turned into a different band after that. I will say this track from their new one sounds very promising though, and if the whole thing sounds like this, it'll be a definite purchase. I hate when they tease them this far ahead, album won't drop until 3 months from now, June 9th.
  7. To be sure there's a lot of great black metal from a lot of other countries as well, but they can't all be in the top 10. There's a ton of great bands from Chile in several subs including black/thrash and black metal, but I think of Chile more for death metal. They'd easily be in my top 5 for death metal exporters along with the US, Finland, Denmark and Sweden. Atshen - Purification, Quebec, Canada Minenwerfer - Feuerwalze, Sacramento, California
  8. Dissotechnical black? IDK what I'd call it but this is sick, even I can dig this.
  9. No nation shall surpass FInland. These are the rankings (loosely) as I see them for where I'm finding most of the best black metal: 1.) Finland 2.) Germany 3.) USA 4.) Poland 5.) Norway 6.) Sweden 7.) Canada 8.) Spain 9.) Netherlands 10.) France/Italy Kiira - Iättömän Sanat, Finland Ciemra - The Tread of Darkness, Belarus, mandatory.
  10. Slayer only tune half a step to E flat. Put Reign in Blood on YouTube and then play it at 3/4 speed. It actually sounds alright slower, still faster than a lot of other bands. Once you get used to it that way after a song or two then turn it back to normal speed, it sounds fucking insane.
  11. Plague Bearer - Summoning Apocalyptic Devastation, black/death Seattle Anarkhon - Obiasot Dwybat Ptnotun, black/death Brazil
  12. Riffs sound best in the key they were written in. The key you're used to hearing them in. Sabbath tuned lower so Iommi could bend the strings easier because of his two missing fingertips.
  13. Tarfania - Netherworld, Germany Osculum Infame - Sadomatic, Impure Artgoat, demo 1994 France Black Angel - Beyond from Beyond, Peru 2006
  14. Flammae - Ordo, Poland Petit Nuage Noir - Among the Graves, Poland
  15. Biggest probelm I had with Heimdal is that they hit me right in the face with the too much cleans and all those lame keys right off the bat in the first (and worst) song. They must've thought it was "epic" or something. I thought the album picked up a bit from the 2nd track on. Good thinking. I really love that 2nd Arde album, so I guess it's time to try out their first.
  16. Enslaved - Heimdal, Norway. Stayed with it til the end, but I'll probably never listen to this again. Too much frooty keys and cleans ruin it for me. But I guess I can kinda see how this'd be appealing to someone who was into prog metal. Badalyk - Freak in the Mirror, Siberia. It don't get no fucking colder than Siberia. Hopefully this will be able to get the Enslaved taste out of my mouth.
  17. Beastcraft - Baptised in Blood and Goatsemen, Norway 2007 Dead to this World - First Strike for Spiritual Renewance, Norway 2007
  18. Flame - March Into Firelands, Finland 2011 Blasphemophagher - The III Command of the Absolute Chaos, Italy 2011
  19. Blaspherian - Infernal Warriors of Death, black/death Texas 2011 Hades Archer - For the Diabolical Ages, Chilean war metal 2011
  20. Agnostic Front - Cause for Alarm, NYHC 1986 Madball - Droppin' Many Suckers, NYHC 1992 Leeway - Born to Expire, NYHC 1989
  21. Ringworm - The Promise, Cleveland hardcore 1993 Sick of It All - Scratch the Surface, NYHC 1994
