  3. Your #201 only has 27 scrobbles?!? Dude I have to go to page 54 (out of 75) band #2,678 Anacrusis to get down to my first band that only has 27 plays. Most of the albums I bought in the last month already have more plays than that. Have a couple of friends who are into Runemagick, get all excited when they drop an album. I don't get it, they leave me cold. Boooooring. Satan blows. Go back to sucking cocks in Hell where you belong Satan. I know us older true metalheads are supposed to at least harbor some respect and appreciation for all these old 80's bands with their high clean vocals but I for one do not. I find most of these old bands' vox unlistenable. Doesn't really matter how good the music might be if you have some idiot singing right in your face in his high shrill voice. The only one who gets a pass on this is KD because those 80's Fate albums were so incredibly good I forced myself to get onboard with the falsetto. Those two Fate albums, Melissa and Oath were better than everything Priest and Maiden have ever done or even thought about doing combined, no offense to Mr Smith and Mr Tipton or whomever was writing those bands' songs. Somehow the falsetto seems reasonable to me, I mean I'll walk around the kitchen sometimes singing made-up nonsense lyrics in my best falsetto just to entertain the kid, so falsetto has its place. And also King's normal register actual singing voice is really fucking good. Archgoat Live Hellfest 2016, love the Goat but I think their sound is better suited to smaller clubs. They look out of place on that gigantic stage.

  5. Goatslave - Procession of Doom, France 2016 AI will not "take over" and replace humans. People using AI will control people who are not using AI. So it will be like a super weapon. All these people who worked on making the AI are quitting their jobs to go on tour to warn us about AI. I would take then seriously. 6. Just wait til the Goat AI takes over. It's not gonna be pretty. Glad I'm old so I'll be dead soon and won't have to be a goat slave like the rest-a-yiz.
  7. Ghast Misanthropia - Hymns of a Tortured Soul, black metal Cleveland Ohio Nocturnal Blood - Devastated Graves - The Morbid Celebration, black/death LA 2010 Blasphemous Fire - Beneath the Darkness, Portuguese death
  8. Dødskvad - Krønike I, Demo 2020 Norwegian death Dødskvad - Krønike II EP, 2022
  9. A lot of punk oriented bands took to playing a somewhat more metallic style once they learned how to play their instruments a bit better and had cranked out a few albums. Because as limiting as metal sub-genres can be, punk sub-genres can be even more limiting. Even the mighty Napalm Death copped a lot of flak for essentially playing death metal for awhile in the 90's as did ENT. So funny to go on the Youtube videos for some of the later Discharge and Expoited albums and see everyone bitching about how their beloved hardcore punks had 'sold-out' and become dirty metal bands. And I get it because certainly metal is more commercially viable, but I just think when punk bands learn to play a little better what comes out just naturally sounds more like metal. That Natural Order album you posted for instance is a perfect example, it sounds about 90% thrash metal and only maybe 10% punk left in the vocals mostly. But that's true of basically all the rougher sounding thrash bands from back in the day (i.e. not the bay area bands) even the ones that never started as true punk bands there was still a fair bit of punk in their sound. Look at Onslaught's Power From Hell, it's generally considered a metal album but to me it sounds almost exactly like a clone of the first Discharge full length, HNSNSN. So is it metal or is it punk or is it both? Metal and punk really have been inextricably intertwined and influencing and feeding off each other since the very beginning. I never heard Darkest Hour or Log until they had already shed most of the punk from their sounds. DH, now there's a name I haven't thought of in forever.
  10. Or they could just be getting their legal affairs in order to release their own range of Blood Reign hot sauce or something. LLC only costs a couple hundred bucks, anyone can get one.
  11. Did you have to pay to license the London Symphony samples? How did that work? You might not make your money back.
  12. Did another one of them die already? Was it Kerry this time? He just meant dead as in the band is retired, they're done, they're dead, they're kaput. They won't be releasing any more albums. Although I'd bet money they'll tour again sooner or later or at least do a few one-off gigs when they decide they need some more money. Doesn't mean their music is dead, we are still free to enjoy it. Although personally I have no use for anything of theirs that came after the 80's ended.
  13. Whatever you need to tell yourself to get to sleep at night Doc. You can call them jazz, call them new wave, call them R&B, call them opera if it makes you happy. Doesn't matter one iota to me bruv because in my world they're still post-metal and I don't listen to them anyway. Mate. But you can. You know I listened to and posted an album tonight that was tagged post-metal. Sounded like atmo-black to me so that's what I called it, but I'm just saying it's not the end of the world my dude, you can listen to post-metal and stil be in the cool kids club. But regardless I do hope your $1 London Symhony samples album is selling briskly. I had a listen, some of it was interesting, I didn't hate it. I believe it was the Boundless Light track off the Crows Looking Up album was the one that I liked the most of the 4 or 5 I tried.
  14. Hellbastard - Ripper Crust demo, 1986 Newcastle UK. Hellbastard, Amebix, Axegrinder, Sacrelige, these are the UK bands that started playing what became known as the crust genre. Axegrinder - Rise of the Serpent Men, 1989 UK crust Sacrilege- Behind the Realms of Madness, UK crust 1985 Antisect - In Darkness There Is No Choice, UK 1983. This one sounds a lot like 80's Discharge still because it was only '83, but you could hear the extreme metal elements starting to creep in already, even before extreme metal was even a thing. So really the metal guys and the punks were all kinda working on inventing extreme metal concurrently and for at least the first half of the 80's the heaviest bands were from the punk side of the aisle. Deviated Instinct - Terminal Filth Stench-Core demo 1986
  15. Cheddar seemed to be the most popular cheese at all the markets in AUS/NZ as well because I guess it must be an easy cheese to make, and they do not carry a ton of imported specialty cheeses down there like we're used to because cheese is expensive enough already without having to pay a premium to import it from the US or Europe or wherever cheese comes from. They even sell cheese over there that's just labeled like "mild semi-soft white cheese" without an actual variety, which I've never seen in the states. But as a New Yorker seeing all that cheddar overseas seemed weird to me because I associate cheddar with upstate NY and VT. Extra shahp only please. Obviously I'm gonna like goat cheese the best, Archgoat is my favorite variety of the firmer Finnish goat cheeses and Goat Penis Manchego is always good too. Occasionally I'll even go for some Hellfire Havarti or some Celtic Frost Swiss or some Chasm Cotija or Sinister Gouda and Blashemophagher Mozzerella melts nicely.
  16. Gosforth - Scourge of Dark Dominion, Italy
  17. I believe in the summer months when he's not in school Mark has picked up a side gig running river kayak tours in various spots around the mid Atlantic, which I assume are selected based on the experience level of the customers. Every state is different but in the northeast and mid Atlantic school usually starts up again the first week of September most places, so I think in another month or so he'll probably be back to stopping by more often. Hopefully anyway. But even over the summer I have seen him pop in here once or twice a week and just give the horns to a post or two, and slip back out quietly without posting anything himself, or maybe he'll just drop one album in the WAYLT thread and then split, but he's still hanging around. Lots of albums go OOP because they generally don't run off that many copies for these lesser known extreme metal bands (not saying FF falls into that category) because they don't want to pay for them to be made and then get stuck with them and have to pay tax on them. If there's enough demand for an album eventually someone will buy or lease the rights and put out a reissue and try to make some money with it. Over the years there have been some fairly well known (within the underground) black and death metal albums that have gone oop and then sometimes many years have gone by without a reissue. It's all part of the underground game you sign up for when electing to pursue underground music. But I really think a lot of the kvlt collector types secretly enjoy the difficulty of tracking down some of these old oop albums because then it's a thrill when you land one you've been after for awhile. I See Satan Fall Like Lightning - Set the Sky on Fire, atmo-black from Illinois.
  18. Haha I keep some feta cheese in the fridge at all times, it's a staple here, I find it's good on a lot of things. Also like the stuff they sell in the market just labeled "goat cheese" it's great in eggs. Don't be gatekeeping the cheese now bruv, my nu-goat-cheese is just as good as your trad Maiden cheese. Nothing worse than a hardline cheese traditionlist. We don't need to hug or anything, but I'm not gonna lie man, I've missed you and your sense of humor around here these last 5 months.
  19. Had a brief exchange with our friend Navy a little while ago, I texted him to make sure he's alright since he hadn't posted here since February and I know he's had some personal family shit going on and work's been crazy as well. Since Sinead O'connor killed herself the other day (not officially ruled a suicice just speculating because she's tried in the past and no cause of death has been offered) that made me wonder how everyone I know might be doing. Anyway I caught the dude in Minneapolis on a work trip and he replied and assured me he's doing fine and told me to say hi to anyone here that might remember him. Also said he's just busy as fuck with work and home and stuff, he's not staying away intentionally, he just can't find time to squeeze in any forumming right now. Formless Oedon - Streams of Rot, young osdm sounding band from the Philippines. Nice not having to listen to shit on my list after a week of mostly list related listening.
  20. Told myself I was gonna go out there and mow the back 9 later in the arvo when it cooled down a bit, but it's 7:40 already and it never cooled down. But I just realized what I really need are some cows to take care of this for me. Or at least some goats. I can't be fucked to give a shit what the grass looks like personally, but I figure the neighbors would complain if I just gave up and left it go natural. Goats might be the way to go, they could chase the poseurs away too when they're not busy chewing on everything in sight. And I could maybe even get some free cheese out of this deal if I play my cards right.
  21. We're here Ina, welcome to our little corner of the internet. Let's start with what country are you joining us from, and which bands or genres do you like?
  22. Anyone who knows me knows there's only one band left that could possibly be my #2 scrobble champ. 2. Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm (1,225) this would be my actual top ranked band if we were making that list. I've actually had a lot of different bands over the last 50 years which I would have considered to be my favorite band at one time or another. Should make that list sometime but I've started trying to make it in the past and given up because it gets harder to remember all the exact dates that things happened and the specific order they happened in as I get older. Another unique band, there's no one who sounds quite like Inquisition. Too hard to try to describe their sound in words, just have a listen for yourself if you're interested. And I've never seen anyone with an approach to guitar playing or a tone quite like Dagon's either. I find it fascinating how he pulls this sound off very successfully live as a two-piece without any bass. Wasn't their intention to run without a bass player, he says they just never found the right guy who fit in so he finally stoppd looking and ended up just adapting his style to compensate for the lack of bass. My metal brother CBS has naturally already snagged their best album Nefarious Dismal Orations, so I'll have to go with 2nd best Ominous Doctrines. Not a big step down at all, this one fucking destroys all in its path.
  23. Milton Keynes - Milky Beans! C'mon Jon, the Brits and the Aussies rhyme everything, don't the Kiwis do that too? Haven't you heard about this new rhyming slang bruv? I hear it's all the rage these days. Down to the pub, to the rubbery dub. Hope you at least got a little kick out of my lyrical substitutions for your namesake song...and had a little chuckle while cleaning out your personal items from your desk on your way out.
  24. No such thing is possible. They've had several distinct sections of their career so any one album can only best exemplify one of them. So before I make my top 2 (and obviously Darkthrone will be in my top 2) I will tell you which album best exemplifies each section of their career. Section 1, the Peaceville years. 5 albums: SSJ, the 'unholy trinity' of Blaze, Funeral and Transylvanian, and I'm including '95's Panzerfaust in this section as well which was on Moonfrog not Peacevile. This is an important section as it sets the template for 90% of the 2nd wave styled black metal I listen to. My pick: Blaze just narrowly over Panzerfaust which I probably play more often than all the other albums in this section combined. But I just can't go against Blaze. Section 2, what I call their 'middle period' starts with Total Death in '96 and goes through Sardonic Wrath in 2004. There was a noticeable change in style and atmosphere from the earlier black metal albums, Panzerfaust being the transitional album bridging the two styles. I personally like the albums in this second section overall more than section 1. My pick: fuck if I know. There are 3 strong contenders for this section: Total Death, Ravishing Grimness and Sardonic Wrath. Most days I'd probably go with Grimness, but the riffy rawness of Total Death cannot be discounted. This is a tough section. Ravishing Grimness more exemplifies this period I suppose, TD is more of a sonic outlier. Section 3, I'll cal this the crust punk years starting with The Cult is Alive in 2006 and going through Circle the Wagons in 2010. 4 albums that had a lot of fans pissed off at them for abandoning their black metal roots and going to a mix of punk and traditional metal. The way they bitched you would have thought they'd just released fucking Reload or Cold Lake or something. But me being a punk lover anyway I fucking love these albums. The Cult is Alive is the clear winner to exemplify this section, a great album I play it all the time. Section 4, I'll call this the retro years. Starting with The Underground Resistance in 2013. It has not become apparent yet when this setion ends or if it has in fact already ended. Time will tell. This is when the band really went back to their 80's metal roots to mine their influences and what they came up with is hard to categorize, but quite enjoyable. It's hard to dissect these records to pinpoint all the exact references for each riff and each little part of each song, it just sounds like an amalgamation of all their different 80's metal influences, Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, Sodom, Slayer, Possessed, you know all the bands, all mixed together and regurgitated with a more modern sound. I was really enjoying this section a lot up until I think they lost their way a bit a couple of albums back on Eternal Hails. Not sure how I feel about the new one yet I've only spun it once or twice last year when it first came out. Winner of this section: A draw between Underground Resistance and Arctic Thunder. So the overall winner of the Darkthrone album that best exemplifies the band? According to the omnicient lastFM surprisingly Sardonic Wrath is the Darkthrone album I've played the most sititing at my computer. But I am going to overrule lastFM in this case and go with... 1. Darkthrone - Panzerfaust Came very close to going with The Cult is Alive but in the end I figured I should probably go with one of the black metal albums. Leaving #2 for a separate final post because Darkthrone, while collecting the most scrobbles, is not my favorite black metal band.
