I know the feeling, my kids never went through the drawers I made for my music and they could bounce around them all the liked without the drawers opening, but I've got 12 bookshelves of books in my office because we needed room when the kids were growing up. Now kids are grown bookshelves still remain in my office, I think I got short changed :)

Kids are great but there's some serious drawbacks with having them. My cousin's kid head butts him occasionally. Hopefully that's just a phase.

Yeah that's bit rubbish unless you like a lack of space in your office or just like getting distracted with reading.

  2. I only listen to digital music as it's easy and it saves space. I download from bandcamp and Amazon music(about 69 albums in total)I'm very picky about what I get and only get an album after playing much of the album.

I've got 400 CDs in the loft. They were put there because of lack of space and because the kids needed a bigger room and I didn't want them playing frisbee with my cds.

Also I've got about 200 of them on MP3 players. It's good listening to those when I do.

The spreadsheet idea is very good idea as there are lots of good albums I've literally forgotten about.

40 years ago Venom pretty much invented extreme metal with the release of Welcome To Hell.  Not even Motorhead or Iron Maiden compared to this album in terms of extremity, bombast and shock.  It literally kicks off the ultimate Cold War arms race as to who can be the most extreme band on the planet.

Thrash, death, black and grind can all trace important roots to this album.

After listening to you tube studio recordings I was not impressed. Maybe it was a rubbish upload.

Changed my mind. After hearing welcome to hell live. I was blown away how amazing it is. To my ears Mettalica definitely were inspired by this for there kill em all album. Yeah alot of metal bands are fans of venom and cite them as an influence. I can see why. Although the clothes are bit weird for me at least.  There extreme I will give them that. Music is metal as hell to me at least. Venom is very appropriate name. ⚔️🥊💪🔥

Yeah I'm amazing for looking this up right😁

I met Rod one night in a club in Canberra, didn't know the guy personally, but we invited him over for a drink and he spent the entire night at our table just talking about anything and everything as if we'd been mates forever. The guy was a legend!

Cool story. Much cooler than my mate who sometimes has a few at the local pub with  Martin Johnson's dad. He told some good stories too about his rugby career. It's good to hear these positive stories thanks for sharing

You know it's funny I never liked Venom. I remember 40 years ago hearing on the tv news about how they were this big sensation in the UK and how they were Satanic and Evil and all the kids were queuing up to go see their shows. I remember hearing little snippets of their music on the actual nightly news programs, but only for a few brief seconds. Intrigued, I grabbed their album with the goat head on it at the used record store one day for like $2 at a time when it was still a new release. There were several copies available, seems a bunch of people had traded theirs back in already. I got it home and put it on and my friend and I just laughed 'cause it was just so fucking bad, sounded like they were out of tune. The next time I went to the record store I traded it back in myself.

But the thing is they did basically start what has become known as extreme metal almost single handedly, (Motorhead had a hand in it too) even though they could barely even play their instruments back then. So while I still can't even listen to Venom themselves, I pretty much worship every band that they've directly influenced. 80's bands like Celtic Frost and Bathory and Blasphemy that came right out and said they were inspired by Venom and now also the plethora of more recent "goat metal" and black metal bands that all trace their roots directly back to Venom and the first wave of black metal.

So all hail Venom and the 40th anniversary of extreme, black and Satanic metal. I'd wish for another 40 years of Satanic filth but I won't be around to hear it in 40 more years.

We don't agree on much but I don't get venom at all either. I won't say they duck because there held in very high esteem by alot of fans.i don't like it and I just avoid it. It never sounded good to me and devoid of anything I like. I'm not a fan of the riffs, production, the hooks, the singing. None of it.  I will leave it for others to enjoy.

    Hi thanks for the reply.

I searched for some funeral doom and gave it a listen. Yes more variation. I quite like some of it. Operatic metal is a phrase I have come across while listening to symphonic metal.

Good to hear from you plant pot. If you like operatic metal  AVE Maria 2 by deha I think you'd like. It mixes beautiful female operatic soprano vocals with some light funeral doom. So beautiful and pained at the same time. I connect with this more than the original. Schubert would be pleased with a contemporary release I'm sure. Who's your favourite operatic metal band?

I was right epica are in operatic metal😁

I've gotta say that as a Yank I hate the word 'try' for a goal, makes it sound like they tried but couldn't get it over the goal line. As in "Bloody good try dickhead, better luck next time." But now I see the origin of the word was because at one time apparently a try was worth no points at all, grounding the ball over the line only earned your team the opportunity to try to kick a goal. These must have been the rules way back before 1890 when Kuke learned the game as a young lad.

As an English dude I'd never thought of why a try is called a try. I googled it. It's called a try as you get a try to kick the ball between the posts and get some points.  Originally grounding the ball down in the try zone counted for nothing without making the conversion kick. Hope that clears things up for you goat master

I did not receive any caps for playing for Dorset no, would have been cool if that was a thing. And no I did not play the National Italy team as such, it was the Benetton Treviso Club with a selection of the National academy players also. Extremely hard game which even made the local papers. The hospitality was the best we experienced anywhere in Europe. Amazing to play on a pitch with an idyllic clubhouse at one end and snow capped mountains on the other. Stunning.

Maybe caps are only awarded for club and country now Frasier. Mind you what use is a hat with a silly tassle anyway. I'm guessing that not all as impractical as the one my great grandfather got.   😁

Sounds amazing that Italian match. What a setting. The team you faced sound like they had some good players in there. What an experience. 👏👏

In interview Will carling said Jonah lomu was one of the best and most powerful he's played against. He said he threw everything at Jonah in the semi final for one of his tries but he just bounced  off Jonah.

Not only should you have freedom of choice my sweets gobbling friend, you do have freedom of choice. Of course it's yours along with everyone else's right to think and believe whatever they want, that goes without saying afaic. But I don't think anyone's right to believe is the issue here.

What I can't understand is how could it possibly be that here in the digital age of the 21st century there are still so many otherwise reasonably intelligent and seemingly normal sane adults who choose to believe in ancient myths, deities and superstitions, aka god/religion? Now that science has explained away so much of what was not understood 2,000 or even 1,000 or even 500 years ago and we know that the Sun does not revolve around the Earth for instance, what is the rationale behind modern day people continuing to believe in a magical, supernatural, omnicient creator who exists completely outside of the constraints of space and time and the laws of physics?

Most of us would probably laugh at someone who claimed they seriously belived in Santa and his elves, or the Easter Bunny, or the tooth fairy, or flying pigs, or the flying spaghetti monster, or Zeus & Apollo, or Odin & Thor, or primitive natives in loin cloths and grass skirts doing rain dances or sacrificing virgins to the volcano or something like that. Yet no one bats an eye or thinks it's nuts or at all unusual if someone says they believe in a sky fairy or heaven & hell, or angels, or spirits, or demons, or satan, or the father, the son, and the holy ghost or any of that nonsense. Even though none of these things would seem to make any actual sense now in modern times.

I'll say it again: I don't care what anyone else believes. Everyone has the inalienable right to believe in gods or demons or fairies or in any of this higher power stuff if they so choose. I would never want to infringe on anyone's rights or try to stop them from believing. I'm simply asking why would anyone choose to believe any of this stuff? How can any of this higher power stuff seem even remotely plausible to people? What experiences have others had that could have led them to these supernatural conclusions? Or in other words, what am I missing? Because clearly I must be missing something.

The sweet gobbler is back general. I've been thinking about this and some people find it beneficial to believe in sky fairy/god's/the honey monster, even if there like imaginary friends for grown ups. 2 people from my old church attempted suicide after which they discovered faith in God which has helped them stay steady and no more suicide attempts. Another pal who gave up drug  dealing and who spends all his time volunteering now with local homeless  charity is also a strong believer. He was the last person I expected to go to church. Yet he goes. I'd say some people are bit broken and having a faith can help them stay positive and functioning. My cousin who was  literally spending all his money on crack cocaine became quite appreciative of the church as they were keeping him going with there food for the community . He also thinks Jesus life was very inspiring with all the help he gave people. And my grandfather became a believer of sorts before he died. He found it all rather comforting.

Sounds to me that you don't need faith now.  My brother does not get it either.

Also There are eye witness accounts about jesus ressurection and various sightings post crucification but tbh it's hardly concrete stuff .Its probably about as likely I would have thought as those flying sauces and little green men that others believe they saw or were abducted by and why'd the aliens want to do all that anal probing😂  whyyyyyyy

Am literally phasing out alcohol for Sundays-Thursdays.  Not that I drink that much (1 glass of wine every couple of days).  But I really physically feel like shit even if I have one glass of wine.

Well done dead1. I stopped drinking for couple of weeks and I was feeling alot more alert which was very surprising. I like drinking so I'm not going to stop completely. It's my only vice😁 When I drink I want a few so I'm going to drink once per month and see how that goes.  Course the occasional toasts at suitable events don't count for me like the memorial event I was at yesterday.

  12. Been watching count duckula with my daughter's. Not seen it since it was first on TV. Im surprised how much they like it considering there 2. The quiet Earp episode was fun with the Clint Eastwood cliche voiced sherrif. as was duckula on holiday at hardluck hotel with the basil Fawlty cliche hotel owner. I don't know about 12 point tries, but penalties should certainly only be one point.

Cool were in agreement over One point for penalties and conversion kicks. That would hopefully encourage less kicking fest's such as springboks win in 1995 and 2007 cup final where no tries were scored.

What rule change would help bring about more tries.

Have you read about some rule changes that are being trialled in international and domestic rugby at the moment.

I'll go one step further, alcohol and SPORT go together, I need to be drunk to give more than a passing shit about any sport! Strangely enough I can watch it sober but I have zero care who wins or losses or how many times the umpire made the wrong call.

To be fair we had to put up with Mark Taylor doing the same thing in the late 80's and too many now he's a legend of the sport.

I'd say Mark Taylor and Alistair cook are legends of the game even with all that blocking. . Cook scored twelve thousand plus runs which I reckon  is incredible. My best mates uncle made cook his bats which was cool, they was well made and that had nothing to do with all that blocking, it was just his approach😂 my mate  got a signed cook bat too which was cool,

Another big blocker I remember being Michael Atherton.

As far as rugby is concerned, I do have seeing the All Blacks play a match on my bucket list and one day I will damn well tick that box off or I'll die trying. Wouldn't know the difference between RU & RL, (I Googled the difference one time a few years back but I've since forgotten. I think it had something to do with having to put the ball down and then sorta flip/kick it back to someone behind you or something, Doc explained it to me once) To me it all just looks like a bunch of dudes running back and forth and jumping on whomever has the ball, and dudes trying to kick it forward downfield before the other dudes get to them.

I'm hoping that when I finally get to see a match in person one day some local blokes can explain the finer points to me. I did that with cricket back in Jan 2017 when Australia tested Pakistan I think it was. One of the Metal-Fi guys Carlos met me at the train station in Sydney with his son and we spent the whole day at the cricket test where he explained it all to me as we drank beer and ate shitty burgers with beetroot on them and got sunburnt all to fuck even though we had purposely shifted our seats to a shady spot in the stadium.

Alcohol and test cricket go together well from my experience. Watched one game sober. Never again. Watching paint dry would have been more fun than seeing Alistair cook block ball after ball in that tedious one day match against Australia.🥱

Not saying all Christians are bad.  Most are just people who are all various shades of grey.  I specifically said "organised religion."

Religious writings are just one part of any religion.  There's things like practices, rituals, and tacit unwritten understandings.  Eg there's nothing in the Bible about Christmas trees or incorporating pagan festivals like Easter but hey there an actual part of Christianity.

And even if you just look at  writings such as the bible, it is completely against women and LGBTIQ+.   Homosexuality is explicitly banned in the bible and there's so many references to women being submissive.

Koran (and related Haddith's) are even worse when it comes to gender rights.

Christianity/Islam etc might have been a good way of regulating society up to 1200s but we have increasingly figured out their limitations and destroyed many of the key tenants of these books.

Both of these religions have been used as justification or have been primary reason behind much human barbarity and cruelty up to and including the modern era.

Dead thanks for the measured response. In fact it's all been in good spirits. I want to keep that up.  To be a Christian was never an easy choice. Carrying ones cross is mentioned a few times in new testament as it was a reality for the early Christians.its true the Christian rules do seem rather dated now but back then they were rather progressive. All were equal before God. The Romans did not like this at all.  better treatment of children as for Romans infanticide was e just the done thing.after  few years they'd decide if the child would be adopted into the family or abandoned. The early church was against this and they'd take in the ones who weren't smothered by daddy or eaten by wolves.

So I think anybody should have freedom of choice  of God/sky fairy😂 or believing in none at all or sitting on the fence should be everyone's right. Also we should all be at peace with each other. So there's no excuse to do terrible deeds because they have a different god and they look different.

I'm thinking that applies to rugby union in England. From my experience it's mostly a private school sport in England.

Run by morons. On discussion sites re rugby union alot of Aussies say that

Would a change to the point scoring system make a difference to encourage more tries and less kicking points. Is 12 points for a try with one point for try conversion kick t and 1 point for penalty kicks too radical. It certainly be more exciting

I don't really know why I even bought the bottle of rum. I don't hate rum, but I do prefer whiskey, even the stuff others call cheap crap. But for some reason if I do wander a bottle shop, which doesn't happen often I keep heading the the shelf with rum. Perhaps I have some weird and secret aspirations to be a pirate or something.

That's a good way to stop yourself falling asleep while driving a truck. I don't have to slap myself in the face repeatedly whilst driving to work anymore as now catch up on sleep at weekend. Obvious really. 🥱

I drink the cheap crap too 🥃😂which most people can only drink with mixers.i like the famous grouse and Whyte and Mackays, teachers I'd get again but Tesco don't sell it🤬 What are the cheap crap whisky brands you go for😉

This is a spark for creating a potentially very negative discussion. Sure it didn't go down that road. I can say for Christians anyone doing bad in Christs name is not part of the group no matter how high up they are, in fact the new testament points that out many times very clearly. From my understanding its a peaceful religion youve only got to read the new testament to see that. . When Peter took up arms in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus ordered Peter put his sword down even though he knew he was to be crucified. Violence is not part of it. Christians are counter cultural were told to love our enemies for instance which is not easy.   Are Christians Martin Luther king, William wilburforce(brought about end of slavery in Britain),GK Chesterton(who wrote strongly against the eugenics movement in Britain and an immediate critic of hitler).  a plague against humanity. I'd say not.

France seem to have that ability like New Zealand to turn another gear on when needing to step up and win a game, playing very good rugby at the moment so would be surprised if they now do not win the Six Nations.

We travelled all over Europe even playing the Italian boys team who were undefeated in two years before our rabble turned up. I played for about 15 years, I now have the bad back and knee to show for it, along with some amazing memories.

Eddie Jones is a good leader, he has a very young England team this year and they haven't gelled as well as other years yet. Cant say I mind haha

Favourite player back in the day when I was young was Gavin Hastings, Then Euan Murray, My first born son is called Euan because of him. And now would be Hamish Watson.

2nd row looked that up.   Cool you played for county. Do you still get caps for that. My great grandfather played for Yorkshire and I've got the cap in the loft at my parents house. You played against Italy. You mean the national team.

Re the injuries yeah not good and reason to stop. I know people who did not and they can't walk like an uncle.  Do you have any effects from the knocks to the head. My cousin says he gets headaches as result of various fights he's been in but not all started by him. My cousin😁

Eddie Jones is amazing coach overall his record is top,3 world cup finals if I'm not mistaken. His salary is crazy though. How many millions a year.

Euan Murray. What a powerhouse.very  Impressive muscular physique. Hes had very interesting life with stopping playing on Sunday for his faith and being a vet.

That's cool naming your kid Euan after Mr murray

I will take your word on France winning. Do you reckon South Africa will join 6 nations. There's talk of it and Italy getting booted out.
