  1. I agree with a few others. There was some amazing music from 80s 90s and some amazing music now. Although I would say the 90s was not a great time for traditional metal with such heavy hitters such as exodus, testament, even slayer struggling to know how to adapt to nu metal and grunge which was dominant then. Although obviously alot of people must love the 90s grunge and nu metal. Not for me though. ??still some great music in 90s early opeth is some of my favourite, chaos ad album fuck yeahhh etc. For me there is no classic era because in every era from 50s to today there is amazing music if you search hard enough with intelligence. Obviously some would disagree but thats my opinion.

  2. This is a nice question.

One great opening  song is davidian by machine head. For me it's there best track. It's heavy, got an interesting story behind it with the davidian cult standoff, and very interesting drum beat by chris kantos and great chorus.   Even better live. I would love to see machine head play it live but I saw think it was once human play it live with old machine head member Logan  at the forum london. Great night with fear factory headlining

  3. Requiem it's pretty decent when you find fall upon an album that you missed the release date for. Glad you enjoyed dark throne I completely missed leaden light by illimitable dolor but got it the other day.  Seems a good album. Probably not groundbreaking for atmospheric death/doom but I like it and it beats being weather beaten by storm Ciara although exodus had a worse time in the same storm in Finland. ?

  4.

Well done abronsius for starting this thread as other day I was thinking of those album's that just make me miserable or are even just the depressing music style. Will definitely check out some of these album's but 1 album I tend not to listen to much  as it makes me too miserable is hiss spun by Chelsea Wolfe. There is just so little light in that album at all probably none when I listen to it and if I remember lightly Chelsea went to a very remote part of California to get into the right mood for the album. It's really good album but rarely listen to it.  Also dantalion by slow is very depressing as it's so unrelenting in its misery until the final track which is rather light and relaxing. Then again slow's album is funeral doom so it's kind of what you expect. However like father alabaster I sometimes really like listening to depressing music as I find the misery cathartic at all sorts of odd times.  ? Think that's what he was getting at.

  5. Not replying to previous response. But I saw paradise lost play bloodstock in 2016 and I got to say when they played the older stuff they were amazing that day. Nick is not always great live but he can be amazing. To my ears it was one of the best things I'd heard. So atmospheric, heavy and dark. There latest release is one I need to get. Got lost paradise shortly after that which I enjoyed alot plus getting gothic live track on there was a real bonus. What a track. Very sad but I still like spinning it again ?

  6. Welcome to the forum, hope you have a good time here. Not massive fan of power or symphonic metal but I do listen to wintersun. There pretty much in category and do you listen to them or sabaton or that UK band dragon force.

Probably best not to respond to my questions as this is just an intro. Been told off about this in past ? welcome to the forum

  7. Metallica's ride the lighting I did not like at all to begin with. I just gave up listening to it which is crazy. next time I listen to it a few years later  I was blown away and is my favourite of there album's although puppets and kill em all are not far behind. Same here re early opeth. I liked orchids but not massively as the music was very different to anything I'd heard before. After a few listens I really liked it though and there first couple of album's are some of my favourites. Gojira's magma album I thought was very average to begin with but after some play through  I really liked it.

Early sepultura I overlistened on them and I don't listen as much as I used to. When I first heard chaos ad I hated it but it soon became my favourite after a few listens then again it was the first metal album I heard. Chaossssssssssssssss adddddddddddddd????

  8. The new releases for me are the new gojira one which I read about in metal hammer. They divide opinion a bit as there sounds changed especially with a change in vocal style but I like the newer stuff. If anyone could recommend an early release that would be great as I only know the later stuff. there's a new wolves in the throne room album coming out at end of year which could be amazing. Am sure there will be others too but new pallbearer album I'm looking forward to. There album's are very consistently good in my opinion so looking forward to this and follow up to heartless album which I liked alot

  9. Alot of people I know highly recommend seeing maiden for the show as it's one of the biggest and best in metal even if the album's aren't your favourite plus in recent years the album's have got alot better especially since Bruce Dickinson returned  and your right they won't be doing the shows forever so probably worth it. Probably bloodstock 2020 for me and truth be told I have not been in a couple of years but that was due to seeing loads of gigs before hand and being told by the boss I could not go ?

  10. That's definitely a good point. If the lineup is not strong you got to ask yourself if it's worth going especially as the bands are very commercial metal if metal at all.  Since my wife's had kids I've struggled to make it to as many festivals as I would have liked so I've been to more smaller gigs, i saw anthrax with a double length show one year which was awesome. They may be older but they have so much energy and often at festivals they would only play for 30 mins or so like you said. Maiden I have been told are amazing live so prob best thing to do is see them that's if you can get tickets.
