salmonellapancake gave a Damn to RelentlessOblivion in best metal guitarist (your opinion)
Mustaine is funny 'cause he will tell anyone who listens how he had to do all the work in Megadeth 'cause the other guys weren't great songwriters and didn't solo. If you follow the solo careers of Chris Poland and Marty Freidman though they prove that is't the case. Both vastly superior in every respect to Mustaine imo.

Running through some of practice what you preach at work and I think my earbuds are smoking a little bit. Great shit man, bringing back memories.

Nice! I started listening to them a while back, but more recently I've really began to appreciate their brand of music and realize just how important they are to thrash, and metal in general.

Man I got into Testament when i was probably thirteen somehow and I remember loving it. I'll have to run through some sometime soon and refresh myself and get back to you.

Just wondering if there's any other Testament lovers out there. I've been getting into them a lot more lately. I particularly like the records, "The New Order" and "Souls of Black".

salmonellapancake gave a Damn to RelentlessOblivion in Non-metal music
Sucking up to the mods will get you nowhere
Frank Zappa is the odd one out there. Doesn't really fit with anything else I've been listening to lately. Miles Davis on the other hand sits nicely alongside the doomy side of my winter playlist.

salmonellapancake gave a Damn to Amorpheus in Hi guys
Hi, new to the forums but already digging some of the stuff I'm reading. I'm 26, and I live in Greenville, SC assistant managing a shitty kitchen in a shitty restaurant. I played in a band back in the day, but only recently started investing back into making metal tunes. Recently dropped out of college (that's right!) as a Pysch major. I'm now pretty obsessively back into the whole thing and trying to make something happen with it, along with my little media composition sidegig. I'd love to post some of the projects I'm working on and get some feedback on things like tone, mixing and mastering, etc. I'm recording guitar and then blending in orchestra, synth, drums, and bass synthetically. I'm playing a stock as f*** Ibanez RG350DX but I'm getting some decent sound out of it. I just bought a cheap Ibanez bass a couple weeks ago (incredibly fun to play) that's actually sounding pretty good too, and I'm about to start incorporating that into my next project Some of my favorite albums are Subterranean, Painkiller, Fate of Norns, Wintersun, Unhallowed, Dirt, Advance and Vanquish. Okay. I don't wanna take up too much of your time, but if you want to check out some my stuff I'll put a link below. Cheers

We'll see. I'd rather just merge this and avoid duplicates. Going through old threads is part of the fun of joining a forum, and duplicates get confusing.
I can't wait to get set up here and start listening to music again, metal or no.

salmonellapancake gave a Damn to RelentlessOblivion in Non-metal music
Still think we need somewhere to archive the older inactive threads just so there's not quite so much to go through.
As for the topic at hand I've been in a very metal mood lately so the only non-metal artists I've been listening to lately have been Frank Zappa and Miles Davis.

No worries, there's a few years worth of conversation on here and it can be a lot to take in.

salmonellapancake gave a Damn to Fabulousdisaster88 in Revocation and death, Dave Davidson and chuck schuldiner
Hello, everyone recently I've been listening to a lot of revocation, and is it just me, or is Dave Davidson a modern day chuck schuldiner? I know no one can replace chuck, but Dave Davidson is (from what I've heard) it seems like is on par with chucks guitar chops. Even in some revocation songs their vocals to me, sound pretty similar. He even, although it's not a bc rich stealth plays a similar guitar as chuck did, a Jackson warrior. Has anyone else made the connection? What do you guys think? Is Dave Davidson reminiscent of chuck to any of you?

salmonellapancake gave a Damn to RelentlessOblivion in Spirituality through music
I don't consider myself a spiritual person. That being said I can't deny there's something about music (or at least the music I enjoy) that is truly special. Music has helped me get through some very challenging times in my life. Times where I felt isolated and beyond depressed music was my only means of relief. It was a means of escaping that crushing loneliness and despair. If I'm to be very honest were it not for the way music impacts me I almost certainly would have committed suicide.
I suppose music is my spirituality. It is something I can turn to like others turn to their faith, family, or friends. Whether it be Vivaldi, Robert Johnson, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, or Death I know music will always be there for me and it will continue influencing my life in a very profound way.
Very recently I've realised that sentiment is what drives me to keep playing my guitar. I hope that when I begin crafting my own music it impacts others in the same way.

For me, metal is a hobby, a fun thing I just really enjoy. However, it is also therapy, anger management and at one point in my life a treatment for depression.

salmonellapancake gave a Damn to Fabulousdisaster88 in Instruments
I play a Jackson js32t in black with white body binding. I took out the neck and bridge pickup and put a white emg 81 in the bridge leaving a pickup cavity in the neck. I think it's gonna be my thing though, I like it a lot, I bought this guitar in a guitar center one Christmas brand new and loved it of course because of the legend himself, randy rhoads. I play thrash and death metal, I do mainly havok covers, but the stuff I write is heavily influenced by slayer, exodus, kreator, and more recently, revocation and death.
By the way I'm 14 and have been playing for 6 years, and this Saturday I'm going to audition for a local thrash band! I play rhythm guitar.

I've written a couple of riffs but none of them have developed into entire songs yet. There's a lot of Death influence in what I've written (and more recently a bit of Dissection) but I think it's different enough to not be called blatant ripping off of ideas.
