  1. Throneum - The tight deathrope act over rubicon This shouldn't work, but somehow I like it. This is now a second Throneum album I'm listening to and it's the same odd sound on this one. Kind of sludgy riffs, drumming is at the same time sharp and wild, vocals aren't typical death or black metal either. Overall it feels kind of proggy too. I don't understand half of what's going on, but I still like it. Other bands that I've been listening to for the past 7 days aren't nothing surprising in my books. Lots of Graveland, Blood chalice, Förgjord, Inquisition, Clandestine blaze, Vomitory, Behexen and so on...
  2. I wasn't there in the 90's but today it seems if you find a good sounding band I usually follow the record studio where the album was produced. Cadaveric incubator for example is currently labeled under Hells headbanger's records and I found Black jesus from the roster which sounds pretty good to me. Black jesus - Everything black everything dead In finnish black metal scene if something comes up from Werewolf, Kvlt or Northern heritage studios, I'm pretty sure already it is going to be something good. I hardly use any YT or Bandcamp.
  3. Np: Raven dark - Autumn roar Autumn is close at the door here in Finland.
  4. Today's top 10 bands I listened: Decayed (18) Blood chalice (12) Revenge (12) Inquisition (11) Iron monkey (9) Celtic frost (8) Cro-mags (8) Graveland (8) Severed heads (7) electro-industrial Branikald (5) I've been concentrating on updating my battle vest for the past few days. That's why I haven't posted much lately. Plus K was at a festival last weekend.
  5. DIdn't want to open a new thread so this fits here quite allright. I was at a metal fest last weekend. Best performances of the weekend: 1. Vomitory Tight, hard edged death metal. Great machine! 2. Batushka The numinous one. Best atmosphere. 3. I am morbid (Morbid angel) Always reliable legends. Sandoval and Vincent are still kicking it. 4. Impaled nazarene Grinding punkish old school black/death metal. Still not slowing down. 5. Suicide angels The black horse. Thrash metal from Greece. They had the inside stage and they owned it. Better show than Sodom. I don't know if I will ever listen to them on record, but great live band. Sodom, Dark funeral, Emperor, Watain were business as usual. Out of my taste but still listenable. Before the dawn, Bloodred hourglass, Leprous. I missed Asagraum and Chamber of Unlight, but that's okay. I see them in other bm gigs anyway.
  6. Yesterday's top ten artists: Horn (30) Blood chalice (24) Dishammer (24) Mystifier (22) Mortuary drape (20) Type O Negative (20) Deströyer 666 (18) Iron monkey (18) Sargeist (18) Betelzeus (12) Right now spinning: Bolt thrower - Realm of chaos
  7. Today's top ten artists: Beherit - At the devils studio '90, Drawing down the moon (43) Mystifier - the Wicca (18) Diaboli - Kirous, the Antichrist (16) Purtenance - the Rot within us (16) Graveland - Creed and iron (14) Satanic warmaster - Carelian satanist madness (14) Akitsa - Grands tyrans (12) Ruumisto - Saatto ja syntymä (9) neofolk Archgoat - the Apocalyptic triumphator (6) Knife - the Eye of infernal wisdom (6) Werwolf (SW) side project I also got this as a bonus cd via mail order. Does this ever happen to any of you guys when you order your stuff from the internet? Hymnr - Far beyond sanity, russian black metal
  8. Yes and no. If there ever comes a spark to write a Bolt thrower record they should feel free to do so, but I guess when you are a career band, things work out little differently. Guys like Werwolf understand this. He doesn't put out all his work under the name Satanic warmaster. Instead there is many projects of which some though could be under Satanic warmaster. But that is the freedom of underground business.
  9. In my mind the genre comes first. Black metal is the core of everything. There it spreads to both bands and albums. I wouldn't call myself a fan of any band or particular album even though there are many favorites in both categories. I wear a band shirt to salute them for a given time and place. I'm a black metal "fan" for certain. Bands and albums come and go, some circle around longer than the others, but black metal stays forever. And a few other genres too.
  10. Right now playing: Warloghe - Three angled void Listening for the first time the whole album through and I'm already thinking I'm holding one of the black metal gems of the decade. Got to order the vinyl very soon.
  11. Today's listenings: Discharge (23) Anti cimex (12) Throneum (11) - Morbid death tales Thanks Nasty. This playlist thing works fine. Behexen (10) Undergang (10) Cadaveric incubator (8) Förgjord (8) Necrophobic (8) Linekraft (7) - Subhuman princible Hellfire deathcult (6)
  12. Got the mail today. Time to start killing it: 1x DIABOLI "The Antichrist" digipak CD 1x DIABOLI "Kirous" digipak CD 1x DIABOLI "Awakening of Nordic Storm” CD 1x KNIFE "The Eye of Infernal Wisdom" cd 1x WARLOGHE "Three Angled Void" cd 1x NECROPOLE "Yoga" digipak CD
  13. Here's my top ten most played artists/albums from this week: 10. Akitsa - Goétie 9. Purtenance - …To spread the flame of the ancients 8. Master's hammer - Jilemnicky okultista 7. Graveland - Carpathian wolves 6. Inquisition - Nefarious dismal orations 5. Pungent stench - Been caught buttering 4. Revenge - Triumph.Genocide.Antichrist 3. Grave - Into the grave 2. Clandestine blaze - Harmony of struggle 1. Archgoat - the Apocalyptic triumphator This might have turned out to be my new favorite Archgoat album, but I'm not sure. I have to give it a few more rounds.
  14. I spin Rdyandalir like every other week. By the timeless nightly dusk is one of the most ethereal bm songs ever. There's a little Fenriz styled constant drumbeat going on, mixed with somber guitar wall, crowned with a voice that growls only the pagan gods know what kind of prayers to the skies. The whole album is ethereal, atmospheric gem. I should finally give other Blazebirth hall bands a listen. --- Today's top ten bands. It was a little quiet day in the listening front. Had a barbecue with the family so had to put little less heavy music from the speakers in the afternoon. Archgoat (24) Grave (19) Inquisition (18) Prong (13) Voidhanger (12) Clandestine blaze (8) Blood chalice (4) Type o negative (3) Black label society (2) Black sabbath (2)
  15. I've heard someone say about black metal, don't remember who, that others bake cake and others bread and that's where it's easy to chop all the different styles in as many pieces as you like. I think it was Fenriz in some late 90's documentary. Sodality is the baked kind of black metal in my mind. Rich in sound and skilled in playing. Reminds me of Acherontas mostly. By the way wouldn't it be interesting if we started to review metal music like wine. "Hmm.. this is really fruity, like it was brought up from a honey badgers rectum." There probably is someone out there doing it. --- This was yesterdays top ten 1. Master's hammer (26) 2. Horna (21) 3. Blood chalice (16) 4. Necrophobic (16) 5. Undergang (16) 6. Betelzeus (12) 7. Hell militia (12) 8. Branikald (6) 9. Infernal coil (6) 10. Iron monkey (5)
  16. Lack of interest was a random discovery when I deep dived into Man is the bastard who are, of what I know, one of the pioneers of powerviolence. Man is the bastard members had a noise/hardcore sideproject, imaginatively, called the Bastard noise and they had a split with Lack of interest. Anubi was another random pick when visiting a record store. My dying bride is a old favorite. Spinned the Lies I sire which I again just randomly picked up when it was new and it still works. MDB works same way as Type-o-negative or any good doom metal for "resting" after days or weeks of listening blackened, cumblood blasted, shit paved black/death, crust, noise/stenchcore filled barbaric caveman filth. MDB almost sounds artistic for the occasion until it's time to jump back in to the filth and kick some ass! My dying bride - Echoes from a hollow soul The Bastard noise - Culture of monsters
  17. Today's top ten bands. Wulkanaz (23) Purtenance (22) Arnaut pavle (18) Lack of interest (18) powerviolence My dying bride (18) Wolfsmond (18) Förgjord (14) Anubi (12) Of feather and bone (12) Damaar (10) I'm not that much into thrash, but I prefer the German thrash more than the American. Exodus, Dark angel, Possessed, Slayer played it tight and with energy, but despite the flaws the German albums have, they feel more barbaric. Raging steel is probably my favorite thrash album right down to cover art. Overkill hasn't never sparked in me. Too slow and vocals aren't right. I take Iron angel instead though they sound more speed metal than thrash.
  18. Just listened to some Demoncy and I will definitely listen more in due course. Listing this stuff is ever-changing process. I guess some of just feel the need to map it out or otherwise it feels like being lost in a desert. If someone comes to me and asks what bands do I listen to I will instantly answer the usual suspects. It takes time for new bands to stick in to the mind and listing them out helps achieving that. Just ordered some Diaboli and Warloghe. Lets see how well they stick. I've heard both bands here and there, but not for a full album length.
  19. CBS most played bands according to lastFM 201 - 3000…? No point in going forward. The list keeps changing too rapidly. But here's one nice picking from the pile. Archspire. Another band my brother loves a lot and I hate my guts out of it. They should launch that band along with that prog-space shuttle. Might give some speed to save a few hours from that long journey, he he. --- Yesterday's most played artists. Clandestine blaze (30) Behexen (20) Incantation (20) Deströyer 666 (18) Cadaveric incubator (17) Doom (16) Repulsion (14) Revenge (11) Goatsblood (8) Sludge Sick urge (8) hardcore/powerviolence -- Currently listening some experimental bm aswell Anubi - Mirties metafora, Lithuania
  20. I've found some more room to Revenge. A bit more grinding approach compared to Archgoat's more blasphemous style. I naturally respect people for liking what they want. I definitely wasn't there, being born in '89. Anthrax sounds like a bland rock band to my ears, but in this case also a bit annoying like those rocking guitar chicks that youtube is trying to shove down my throat with their algorithm. --- More Revenge for the morning. Revenge - Infiltration.Downfall.Death
  21. CBS most played bands according to lastFM 201 - 3000...? 206. Ancient rites Not working. Could say I hate it. 207. Anthrax I defenitely hate it. I have a brother who has stepped into 'heavier' metal in recent years and he keeps introducing me to these bands. Top 10 bands I've played today. 1. Archgoat (36) 2. Pungent stench (36) 3. Grave (31) 4. Anti cimex (19) 5. Bolt thrower (19) 6. Inquisition (9) 7. Throneum (19) black/death, Poland 8. Linekraft (16), noise, Japan 9. Kyy (15), black metal, Finland 10. Revenge (15) --- I've got to present Kyy - Beyod flesh - Beyond matter - Beyond death
  22. I'm still quite clueless about this dissonance thing. I read some blog about it 1,5 years ago where I first heard the term dissonant death metal. I guess we have to separate some bands that could otherwise end up being described as avant-garde and atmospheric. Here is some riffs that are quite unconventional. I like the drumwork a lot. Polish black/death. Throneum - Morbid death tales Or how about this for (what GG mentioned) how do bands remember how to play their songs? Bekëth nexëhmü, for what I have heard, goes to the studio with a few ideas in mind and plays it out almost spontaneously and never plays the songs again. It's not very complex but draws quite beautiful atmospherics. Bekëth nexëhmü - De svarta riterna
  23. I haven't heard much Havohej, but yea the same raw approach. While the one song I posted is a typical raw bm song, Akitsa also blends noise, punk and folky elements into their bm. Vocals I'd say are the biggest factor wheter it catches or not, because sometimes it goes all out shrieking and other times clean. Really versatile band. I bought two albums early 2010, but they really catched like six years later when I picked one of those albums for a revisit. There is one demo Celtic winter that is same sounding as Glare of the burning churches. Then there are the 90's full-lengths where they improved musically and in production, essentially playing the same pagan style black metal. Immortal pride, Creed of iron are the transition albums where Graveland turned into more pagan/folk metal approached black metal. There has been lot of re-recordings in the last ten years and one new album two years ago. I usually listen to Glare of burning churches, Carpathian wolves and little less Thousand swords, Creed of iron, Spears of heaven and Hour of Ragnarök.
  24. I'm going to play like a true mf to get nothing but good bands in top 200 next year. I played alot of bands from your list yesterday. You like all 10, even Akitsa and Graveland? Specially Akitsa I don't expect anyone to like in this forum. Akitsa - Haine et vengeance
  25. CBS most played bands according to lastFM 201 - 3000...? 203. None - Damp chill of life There was a time I was more interested in dsbm. Now it doesn't seem to work anymore. 204. Satan - Court in the fuck it It's pretty windy down in these parts of the list. Better skip this one as it was yesterday 201. 205. Amen corner - Jachol ve tehila Someone suggested this sounds kind of the same as Samael's early work. I've spinned it a few times, but didn't really catch it. --- Some real music from today Top 10 bands I've played today. Blood chalice (28), Iron monkey (20), Archgoat (17), Hellkrusher (17), Integrity (17), Discharge (16), Graveland (16), Akitsa (12), Hate manifesto (12), Burial hordes (10) Winner: Blood chalice - Sepulchral Chants of Self-Destruction
