  1. Had a couple of these earlier ^ and now I'm having a little of this:
  2. Closed backed headphones are sealed, the ear cups are made from a solid material like often wood or plastic so the sound doesn't leak out much and the outside world noise doesn't intrude too much. They will generally have more bass but they also tend to make everything sound closer and smaller. Open backed cans have the ear cups made from various materials with holes to let air pass through like some kind of mesh or thatched design or louvers usually that lets in some outside air and lets some of the sound leak out as well. They genetally have a wider soundstage and things sound bigger and more airy although often they can have less bass because of this. My first few decent pairs of headphones were all closed backs for more bass and less sound leakage. But since then I've tried some open ones as well which I very much prefer. My Fidelio X2's were my first open pair and they became my main every day go-to cans so since they broke I've been hunting for some open backed cans that somehow manage to have good solid bass. That seems to be the trade off in the headphone world, to some extent you sort of have to choose between having more detail and clarity in the midrange and treble or a darker bassier sound. There are so many headphones now that can give you varying degrees of either or both and it's a matter of finding the sound you like best for the music you listen to. Some people have different headphones that they prefer for different genres of music. Thats where I guess I'm lucky, I only need them to sound good with extreme metal and specifically black metal because that's the majority of what I listen to. If I liked more different kinds of music with clean vocals and softer more dynamic parts I'd probably be looking at some very different kinds of headphones.
  3. I've purchased 3 pairs of headphones in the last two weeks. So far I've only listened to the first ones to arrive, the $209 Sivga Phoenix. They sound really good to me, similar to my Fidelio X2's maybe a little better with good bass and I like them quite a bit for my purposes. But they're not the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. They call them over ear but for me they sit on ear so after a couple of hours my ears start to hurt. I'm hardly an audiophile though, unlike many others here I really do mostly listen to poorly recorded goat and black metal MP3's. So if these cans have any shortcomings in the treble or midrange or anywhere I probably haven't even noticed. The LCD-2C have been here for a couple of days now and I've opened the box and looked them over and fondled them a bit but tbh I've been almost scared to plug them in and try them out in case they're not all they have been built up to be. I've been busy this week and it's just been easier in the evenings when I'm tired to just put on the headphones that are sitting there and already plugged in ready to go. I guess this weekend I will have to make time to try all my other new headphones out. Also have my Assdrop Hifiman Edition XX here since yesterday and I haven't even opened the box yet. They were $519 buy it now or a $399 opening bid on Ebay. Not wanting to spend $500 I put in a low bid with 6 days to go and then when I bought the LCD's I figured I just wouldn't pursue the XX anymore. But no one came along to outbid me so I had to buy them as well for $410. Now Navy brings these other Quad Era-1's to my attention and I'll just have to put them out of my mind for now because I don't need a 4th new pair of headphones right now. I have 3 and I only meant to buy 2. Lemme see how these other two new ones sound first and then I'll decide which ones I want to keep and which ones I could sell if any.
  4. Alright then, so assuming no one got cold feet or cancelled at the last minute and the date took place as scheduled, are you gonna tell us what happened or leave us hanging? How did it go??? Is there going to be a second ever date?
  5. Probably didn't eat a lot of these: Or these Or these: Or these: Or these: Or these: Or these: Or these:
  6. A Black Metal Year in Norway These are some cuts from the film Trondr Nefas (Urgehal (Norway) guitar/vox) was working on when he died on this date in 2012. Posted by the dude who was helping him film and edit it. Looks like it would have been a really cool doco. Even the trailers are fascinating.
  7. Denial - Catacombs of the Grotesque, Mexican Findeath worship
  8. Are you suggesting Johan that our lad Luxi should spend his days wandering around the grassy hills and pastures and the native bush of north coast New Zealand looking for fruits and roots? Avocados and mushrooms maybe? I'm not an advocate of the Paleo diet personally, but the fact remains that humans were designed to eat meat. Farming and dairy and of course processed foods are much more recent developments. I agree with not needing meat 3 times a day, but then I think this modern habit of eating several times a day all day long is nuts anyway, which is why I eat one meal a day. I wouldn't eat solely meat that'd just be silly, I have veggies and stuff with my daily meal as well. But I can tell you that my daily meal will always contain some kind of meat or animal protein or fish or something. Always. I wish I could cut out processed foods altogether but being a lazy entitled American I am surrounded by them and at the store I am bombarded with them. I do cook fresh foods for most meals (except lately I have started getting fish & chips from a local food truck on Fridays that donates the profits to local charities because the kid loves fsh&chp too) but my problem is I am addicted to all manner of sauces and marinades that come in little bottles. Italian, Asian, Indian, Mexican, Dijon, BBQ Medditeranean, Worcestershire, Old Bay, hot sauce....doesn't matter I love them all. Just makes dinner come together that much quicker and taste good. And dark chocolate. That's my main vice these days after dinner I enjoy a whiskey and a couple pieces of dark chocolate. I rationalize that dark chocolate is good for me and has some kind of health benefits so it's OK, even though I do feel guilty about the sugar.
  9. I thought about it, I really did, but I just can't bring myself to click it. This is St Anger we're talking about man. Just when we all thought they'd hit rock bottom with Load they dropped this game changing turd and lowered the bar for everyone.
  10. Alright, seems I have no biscuits but I have uncovered some of these. Let the midnight munching commence.
  11. I have chucked on Succumb to put this theory to the test, but now the problem is who the fuck could possibly be expected to remember what the fuck those dogshit songs on St Anger sounded like? Is it even worth going back to check? I'll have to take your word for it.
  12. Oh don't you worry, Boris says you're gonna get 'em now. They're Australian, they've always had them down under and in NZ but we even get them here in the states now. They were my late Kiwi wife's favorite. She was addicted to them, used to get her mum to send them in the mail along with Marmite, Manuka honey, and some kind of tea she just had to have. She got very excited when they started selling them in NY, she always kept a whole stack of them in the cupboard in case they changed their mind and stopped carrying them.
  13. Sounds like you're describing Tim Tams. Haven't had one of those in a few years but now all of a sudden I want one. 10 pm too late, local stores are closed. I'm sure if I look I'll find something to make do in the kitchen.
  14. Zeta Reticuli: A Tale About Hatred and Total Enslavement - Arkona Leave it to Poland for the Z titles, they love the letter Z in Poland.
  15. What are these exactly? Some kind of chocolate filled cookies? Is the inside soft and gooey or hard?
