  1. I certainly agree with you there. I really enjoyed Let Me In and before that the first Paranormal Activity (never should have become a franchise if you ask me) but those are the exception and not everyone enjoys those films to the extent I did. It's difficult though to make horror movies when your audience isn't as interested in atmosphere and subtlety thanks to the slasher films of the late seventies/eighties/early nineties and the torture porn which passes for horror these days.

I liked Let Me In before I saw the original Swedish version, after which I thought it was okay. Then I read the book and I've never wanted to see the remake again, ever. Have a go at the original version, I say. You won't be dissapointed.

  2. Watched Annabelle today. Whilst I thought the pacing was a marked improvement on The Conjuring and the atmosphere was certainly more eerie overall I would only call it average. The scares weren't consistently well-executed and the acting left much to be desired. I tend to be very critical of horror films though since it is my favourite film genre and I've seen many phenomenal films.

If you ask me, few horror movies succeed in rising above average these days. They usually rely solely on jumpscares or gore, neither of which are horror to me.
