  1. I don't think any of them are metal, but the closest one would be AC/DC, and even that I consider just classic rock. What do you think?
  2. Nice! That is a decent response lol It seems like many of the bands you don't like is due to the vocals (at least somewhat anyway). I also find that vocals can really "make or break" a band for me too, hence the reason why I took so long to start liking death metal and am still a little undecided about Black metal. I do like most death metal, but some bands I am still finding hard to 100% enjoy, such as Duing Fetus because the vocal style is just a bit too "weird" for me. But I really like Rammstein too - they have some great songs imo! Personally haven't heard the power metal in A7X, but that is most likely because I don't listen to them much - any song in particular you referring to or just in general? I am interested in what Hard Rock means in Sweden?
  3. Thanks for the comment Scullion. A lot of people are from the same school of thought as you regarding the labelling of genres (i.e. prefer not to label), so you are definitely not alone in that respect. Regarding your thoughts on the music, you are entitled to your opinion but I think that your thoughts would be given much more weight/consideration by others if you elaborated on why you think all those bands are crap (except for Rammstein).
  4. I feel like I can learn so much about other metal on this site! Whilst I am knowledgeable about the metal I always listen to, there is so much out there I have no idea about (e.g. Doom which old BlastAusNerd always raves about haha). Also helps that people are generally open to other people's opinions here.
  5. Thanks for your thoughts Iceni. Definitely interesting to see so many viewpoints out there...I guess this just shows it's all about interpretation and personal viewpoints.
  6. Everything I love about Metal Forum is encapsulated in my review here.
  7. Thanks for you comments Steve! Glad you like the album too - nothing feels worse than looking forward to a release and being disappointed. Never head of Adept but will look them up now!
  8. Hi guys, slightly amended review of KSE's Disarm The Descent from my website metal music blog. Disarm the Descent (which you can purchase here) is the much anticipated 6th album from Killswitch Engage, largely due to the hype surrounding the return of Jesse Leach, the metalcore outfit's original vocalist. As with every other metal fan, I was interested to hear what impact the return of Leach would have on KSE's sound. Firstly, Leach has still got it! His screams are still ferocious sounding and his cleans are dripping with feel and emotion. The Hell In Me is the perfect song to begin with and sends fans the message "Do not despair the departure of Jones because Leach is going to rip you a new one!". However, whilst the layered vocals sound amazing in studio and on an album, it will be a challenge for Killswitch Engage to pull off live (in particular The Turning Point and All That We Have). Essentially, Disarm the Descent is really your classic Killswitch album. There are your classic anthems, such as New Awakening, which will no doubt be a hit live. There are meaty and hooky guitar riffs courtesy of Dutkiewicz and Strotzel, which includes heavy chug chug, Iron Maiden-esque rhythmic gallop and melodic and catchy guitar licks. And therein lies the problem with Disarm the Descent - it encompasses all that we have come to love about Killswitch's sound but nothing else. When you have already listened to five albums worth of that sound, it gets a bit tiring to hear a 6th album of something pretty close to the same.Whilst the vocals are fresh and new, from a music perspective, there are no songs which really make you sit up and go "hey, that's different!". Whilst Disarm The Descent doesn't exactly replicate Killswitch Engage's prior releases, it doesn't present anything fresh either. Of course, I am not saying that Killswitch should go ahead and change their sound completely. After all, the sound that Killswitch have developed over the years have garnered a MASSIVE following. They know what they are good at and they have a following for it, so why not dish up more of the same? I do not blame them for this at all. Having said that, Killswitch are a bunch of talented musicians so they are capable producing an album that is so much more than just a "fun listen". Killswitch won't be gaining any new listeners with this album but Killswitch fans won't be disappointed either. In summary, 3 out of 5 horns from me \m/\m/\m/\m/\m/. Stay metal \m/ecca
  9. Welcome! I love LOG too - what are your thoughts on Wrath and their latest release?

Amen to that says the Atheist lol

    Slipknot ??

Really well put DJ Anubis. This place already has far better etiquette than say YouTube so I can;t really complain!

    Slipknot ??

You got it right about respect. I don't think anything/anyone deserves respect just because someone likes it. I mean, I'm not going automatically just respect someones political ideology, views on religion or music preference. But I will engage in constructive dialogue for discussion and leave them to their views.

    Slipknot ??

That's a very good post man - I have much the same philosophy. I think any music should be compatible with each other. At the same time though, this is a forum for discussion so differences in opinion are inevitable which is why I joined in the first place. I like to hear why people disagree (or agree) and so I can try understand things from their perspective too. I love the debate and discussion (not mindless hate, but well thought out opinions based on solid reasoning).
  14. No fans of A7X commenting I see haha. I see you are from NZ - have you been to any of the 8 Foot gigs of late? I'm pretty excited about their comeback
  15. 0/10, haha that's crack up. Yeah the labels don't matter in the grans scheme of things - I was just interested "academically" I guess you could say. I think I would confidently put BFMV up till Scream Aim Fire and ATreyu as definitive metalcore. The latest BFMV sounds like radio rock to me.
  16. Yeah it's so subjective and up to interpretation isn't it...I find it interesting how there are so many different positions one can adopt in relation to the same band! But I am really intrigued as to why you label A7X nu metal? Do you mean that in terms of their sound because I would hvae thought them more "hard rock" (if you were not to classify them metal). But thanks for commenting! \m/ecca
  17. Bahaha, a philisophical metalhead I see! I have tried to define what metal is here.....but life? Out of my depth lol
  18. Welcome Loucifer! I'm pretty new here too Cheers for the comment - I like how you say that a song doesn't need to be "metal" for you to like it, I gather that many members of this forum actually listen to lots of non metal too (me included). I guess what you say about the nu metal tag could apply to any sub genre - eg. everyone would agree that Metallica and Slayer are thrash metal but they really couldn't sound any further apart! Your question about Black Metal is a whole other can of worms that I don't feel qualified to comment on... my Black metal catalogue is pretty lacking! Maybe go ahead and start a thread about it! \m/ecca
  19. Hey Strategos! Beiber – yeah easy target without me having to think haha. Interesting comments too – I consider that you have a lower threshold for what is considered metal when compared to most members of this forum. Thanks for the comment mate J
  20. 100% agree re tuning and that nu-metal is not metal. It was never my intention to try "convince" anyone to like the bands because, like you said, whether or not the music is enjoyable is totally subjective. I was't referring to you when talking about the hate.....and even if you do you have based it on a foundation of reasoning. I knew this post would grind gears though becasue I specifically selected bands which I considered very contentious regarding whether they are metal or not. Cheers \m/ecca
  21. Thanks for sharing man! I always like to hear what others think, especially if they disagree (makes me critically evaluate my own position to see if I hold a defendable argument). It doesn’t matter that you don’t know some of the bands too! I know hardly any of the bands people mention here but it’s a chance to be introduced to something new. Justin Bieber – definitely metal haha! Slipknot gets a large amount of hate (unfairly imo). Korn - I might write a post about nu-metal…… SOAD – you don’t need to be an expert to have an opinion! I know a lot of people who agree with you (just not me lol) Rammstein - I think it’s pretty obvious too but a lot of people disagree with you and me! Thanks again Metallisydan!
