British Lion - Steve Harris solo project
chicagometalhead replied to Jiscariot's topic in Heavy / Traditional Metal
You've got some major hate for modern Maiden, don't you? I still like their recent stuff except for Dance of Death. It's certainly not as good as the 80s stuff, but actually I feel they're progressing more through this era than the others. The thing with this project though is I don't think he's doing it for financial reasons; he simply just wants to play some classic rock, though I think he needed a better singer for this. -
British Lion - Steve Harris solo project

From everything I've read (I have yet to listen to it) it's very much a classic rock album, so I think it's him just wanting to do something different. As far as Steve not being the boss of the band, that isn't true at all. Maiden is his band. Sure, the other members contribute but everything goes through him. -
Not saying the new Motorhead albums are bad, but the Saxon albums have some diversity to them. let's be honest, as much as we all love Motorhead, they pretty much do the same album over and over. I think my favorite of the new Motorhead albums was "Kiss of Death." The last one never really clicked with me and wasn't very memorable.

\m/ JUDAS PRIEST! \m/

My favorite band of all time. What I love about them is they have ventured into various categories of metal but they still remain sounding like Priest. However, Turbo and the two Ripper albums were pretty bad. -
One of the few bands that were able to do a full-on comeback. I know people love Udo, but Tornillo is the better singer. I like both eras though.

The new album was very solid. Honestly, I was very apprehensive due to the time between albums. I'd kill to see them live one day.

One of the most underrated bands out there. They were a different form of Motorhead in a way. It disgusts me that this band moved on without Algy who was their heart and soul. Hell, the band doesn't even sound the same; they're more of a Dio-era Sabbath band now.

One of the best bands on the planet. They're classic stuff and their recent stuff are both quality. Hell, compared to other classic bands like Maiden, Motorhead and Maiden, I'd say they have the better modern albums. The only thing I'd suggest against is to avoid their albums from 86-92 or so, as that's when they were sort of doing a hair metal thing and got super cheesy.

Jugulator - Judas Priest (re-post)

Sorry, Priest is my favorite band of all time, but this album is absolute garbage. However, this is not the fault of Owens who didn't have a lot to do with the songwriting, which is where they fail. Between this and the other Ripper album, it shows that neither Tipton or Downing can write on their own. While Painkiller was also a heavy album, it had the traditional Priest sound. This was heavy for the sake of being heavy with nothing memorable. The only decent track is Funeral Spires. -
Their first four albums are absolutely incredible and are amongst the best NWOBHM discs. They sort of faltered a little after that, but picked it back up in the mid-90s. Definitely one of the most consistent metal bands of all time.

Liked this one much better than the previous couple, not to say that they were bad though. Here's my review: Review: Helloween ? Straight Out of Hell « Chicago Metal Head

I'm big into doom. Obviously there are the main bands like Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Saint Vitus and Pentagram. Beyond that, one cool doom band is Sorcerer. Another that was part of the NWOBHM movement is Witchfinder General. Hour of 13 is pretty cool too.

The Official Power Metal Recommendations Thread
chicagometalhead replied to RelentlessOblivion's topic in Power Metal
One recent album I really thought was quite good is Sacred Guardian's self titled album. It's a different kind of power metal though as in it's more or less traditional like Manowar. Solid stuff though. -
Hello everyone, I am from Chicago and have my own blog entitled Chicago Metal Head. Looking forward to discussing some metal with you all.

A nice return to form -- honestly something I wouldn't think would happen again after Piggy's death. Review: Voivod ? Target Earth « Chicago Metal Head

This is one band I feel has been under the radar for way too long. Their latest release quite honestly is one of the best things I've heard in a while. If you like power/thrash or just thrash metal in general, I recommend it. Here's my review: Review: Paradox ? Tales of the Weird « Chicago Metal Head
