One of these days, I’ll have to start paying more attention to what the rest of you post, but considering it’s already been more than six months since I started the arduous task of sorting out all my black metal, and at last count, I still have some 150 bands to go today, isn’t that day…
NP: Nokturnal Mortum - To the Gates of Blasphemous Fire (1998)
-
Nocturnal Mortem - Goathorns (1997)
-
Afterbirth - In But Not Of
figured it’s about time I check this out, and while I’m only two tracks in, I can already tell it’s something I’ll keep coming back to
-
Inquisition - Nefarious Dismal Orations
-
Inquisition - Invoking the Majestic Throne of Satan
-
Inquisition - Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult
only another 140-ish BM bands. In my collection, I’ll get that top 100 list done one of these days…

Visions of Morpheus - Lost Within
▶︎ Lost Within | Visions of Morpheus (bandcamp.com)
I feel I'm going to be a little harsher on this one than it really deserves. Power Metal is after all something of a relatively restrictive space on the musical landscape. What space remains even among the power bands with the catch all "progressive" tag attached has been stretched to it's near physical limits with vocal ranges and complex rhythms and upbeat tempos. Even with this, though, there are fairly rare bands where each member could be described as capable or good by themselves, but as a unit prove to be more than the sum of their parts. A good example of this would be Satan who don't seem to have slowed or compromised one bit in their style throughout the years, vaulting them to an esteem among power metal fans usually reserved for the legends of the genre. Listening to this album, I think that's really what they were shooting for, but something unquantifiable is keeping them from reaching that benchmark. All the elements are good to very good in their roles, and I can't really quibble too much about any of the performances, but it's just not landing with much impact for me.
That is the exact sentiment that has led me to almost entirely stop exploring the power/progressive metal genres, I find it almost impossible for a new band to make an impact worth considering them over any of the bands I already listen to. This is to one extent, or another true, for all the met sub genres. I enjoy, but most obvious, in the realms of power, traditional, and thrash.

Juvenile and contrived are always popular. Which is one reason why I don't watch that much TV. That said, there have been some fantastic shows on Netflix over the years. Just haven't found any new ones lately. Not that I've really been hunting for one.
I’ve not had the time to keep up-to-date with Netflix, either for obvious reasons, trying to catch up on shows friends have recommended both their and on other streaming platforms has been slow going.

Wednesday is the most recent series I’ve watched, for something touted as a more adult interpretation of the Addams family. It sure was juvenile and contrived. One of these days, I’ll find a Netflix show besides stranger things that I actually enjoy watching…

Welcome to you, I hear Prague is a lovely city, and I’d quite like to visit it one day, aside from that most of our regulars here prefer the more extreme side of metal, so I imagine you won’t have any difficulty fitting in around here.

God Dethroned - Under the Sign of the Iron Cross

‘‘twas a bottle of Rockford Black Shiraz which accompanied the Christmas feast last night.

New keyboard and mouse synced with PC and I know can see the letter A on my keyboard again.
P.S. I know where A is obviously anyway. Would have to be a next level douche bag to not know where A is on a keyboard after some 30 years of using a computer most days.
Yeah, but you’d be amazed at the number of people who have used computers, most of their lives and still can’t touch type.
anyway, I couldn’t be happier that Christmas is over and done with for another year, unfortunately I did such a good job at preparing everything that I’ve been asked to do it again next year… I guess the Christmas roast is now permanently my responsibility kind of ironic, considering that for the most part, all I want to do this time of year is roast Christmas…

Angelcorpse - Exterminate
Ah just what I needed after being subjected to Christmas songs, seemingly non-stop for the last two days…
