  1. Re: Nightwish Hi Metal fan, I like it, but I have to say I like the rest of the album more! I love the Uilleann pipes on "I Want My Tears Back". I wonder, do you or anyone here like Uilleann pipes? Leaves' Eyes use them a fair amount, especially on this terrific cover of "Scarborough Fair" of the Njord album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qYEHVvZsQA.
  2. Re: New UK Metal Bands I've Found Hi PureM3talz, The British Metal scene does suck, doesn't it? It's sometimes difficult to remember we invented the genre! Anyway, have you heard Humanfly - they're technically sludge but, from that which I have hear of them in their terrific album, Darker Later, they are much punchier than Isis and more melodic than the, IMHO, frequently tuneless and chaotic Mastodon. Anyway, try them out and see what you think (it's probably best to check out their MySpace page as they don't seem to have any posts of YouTube !)
  3. Re: Who are your current top 5 bands? O.K. These are mine ! 1. Leaves' Eyes 2. Iron Maiden 3. Disturbed 4. Nightwish 5. Epica
  4. Hi everyone, My idea for an improvement would be a dedicated Symphonic Metal thread alongside all the other metal genres. I don't quite know where Symphonic Metal sits in the existing framework , and no one thread seems quite to cover them. Power metal covers so much more than Symphonic, such as DragonForce, Kamelot etc. Also, some Symphonic is more like Folk/Celtic metal than Power, such as Leaves' Eyes and old Within Temptation. Symphonic Metal is quite distinct from other genres and, to me, is characterised by complex melodies, extensive use of keyboards, orchestral instruments, choirs and other world/folk instruments and the counterpointing of heavy, low, cruchy guitar with high female voices. Does anyone agree with me?
  5. Re: DragonForce's new singer I must confess I haven't heard the new singer but I think DragonForce are terrific! Their music is like liquid sunshine, happy, cheesy and it just make me feel good about life and myself. I mean, I can completely understand a lot of metalheads hating them, they are not very "heavy" sounding and their solos do go on for ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever............. But I just thought somebody ought to stick up for them.
  6. Hi everyone, I absolutely love Iron Maiden and have almost all of their albums, but I was wondering, which is the best? Of course, I know that Maiden have had 15 albums and I am only able to put on ten, but still, I think I can knock out five that most will agree are no the best. Can't wait to see which comes out on top
  7. Hi everyone, I'm new on the forum and am a massive heavy metal fan. My favorite genre is Symphonic metal and my least favourite is Grunge and I'm really looking forwards to meeting with fellow metal heads - where I live there is an appauling derth of them so I can feel pretty isolated!
