    Vitriol - Suffer & Become

I am loving this album immensely!  Hate Eternal is my favorite death metal band, and I hear a lot of their influence in this new slab from Vitriol.  This thing is crushing from beginning to end.

  2. Bullet - "Heading for the Top"

    Bullet - "Bite the Bullet"

Bullet - "Speeding in the Night" (EP)

    Bullet - "Highway Pirates"

    Bullet - "Full Pull"

My goodness, I hope these Swedish rockers put out a new album this year.  Last one was "Dust to Gold" in 2018.

JUNGLE ROT - A Call To Arms

    A.F.K. - Bad Moon Rising

A HUGE thumbs-up to any mention of Jungle Rot!  Love those guys.  Their last few albums have all been thoroughly enjoyable.  Being a groove metal guy above all else, I think it's that element of Jungle Rot's sound that holds my attention without fail.  Gonna jam to these guys on my way to the office tomorrow morning!

The Seven Tongues of God into This Sacrament may be the best 2 opening tracks on an album ever. Loomis + Dane was an absolutely great combo.

NP: My Dying Bride - As the Flower Withers

MDB - Turn Loose the Swans

Two scorchers to open that album for sure!

Great call with My Dying Bride!  I have the whole discography, and "The Dreadful Hours" is my favorite from them, with "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light" coming in right behind it.  Those first two have a special place for me, too, though.  Aaron Stainthorpe is such an underrated vocalist.

It's my favourite one too, although I'm not that familiar with the discography.

Certainly a great vocalist, backed by phenomenal guitar work. Loomis should really start something new along the lines of Nevermore as chief songwriter because he was wasted in Arch Enemy.

Very cool!  Glad to hear you enjoy that album as well!  Yes, Loomis really needs to get back to that Nevermore style with a new band.  His playing is phenomenal, and it would work with a speed metal band or a thrash band, honestly.  I could see him playing in a band similar to the sound of Reverend or Anvil, and I could also see him playing in a band that sounds like Artillery.  He's such a versatile player.  One can only hope he does that some day!

I'll have to listen to This Godless Endeavor again. You've suddenly made me want to. And also The Obsidian Conspiracy.

I put The Politics of Ecstasy and Dead Heart in a Dead World on a pedestal, but I have to admit that I started to lose interest when Enemies of Reality came out.

Nevermore was a band I was a big fan of. Very strong in the arrangements of the compositions, able to putting a foot in Thrash at times and Warrel's voice was really original.

It's already 7 years since he left us. R.I.P Warrel Dane! 🤘🥲🤘

Glad to hear my comment rekindled a desire for you to check out "This Godless Endeavor" again!  It's such a good album.  "Psalm of Lydia" is my favorite track, and it was actually the very first track I ever heard from Nevermore, and I was hooked from then on.

Once you've listened to the album again, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

    Bandcamp Friday

    1.  New
    2. New

    5.

    Some old and new.

I liked the Scorn one although it veered into tech death territory sometimes the dilution of which a capricious blackened veteran wouldn't like.

Great call with that Nevermore album!  "This Godless Endeavor" is my favorite from them, although "Dead Heart in a Dead World" and "Politics of Ecstasy" aren't far behind it.  Dane had a unique voice - such a shame that we lost him so soon.

  7. Torch - "Reignited"

Swedish no-frills heavy metal band that apparently got started back in the early 1980's before my time but never really made it big.  They disbanded in 1986 before reuniting for some shows during stretches of 2013 and 2018.  This 2020 release is a comeback of epic proportions!  Rocks hard from beginning to end.  Highly recommended!

I've never heard of them, but I'll go out on a limb and assume that their lack of kvlt status is due to their name "Wicked Innocence" which anyone would logically assume is a spandex & hairspray type band. Cock rock. I'm just not ever gonna click on anything called Wicked Innocence.

C'mon dude get serious. Biff sounds like an old man, which of course he is. I'm literally embarrassed for him. Riffs in the opening title track were cool, but the next Guillotine track was really really bad. Then they settled into a super generic nondescript heavy metal formula for the next one which I've already forgotten. Roswell song was really bad too. Kubla Khan started out ok for a few seconds but then lost steam pretty fast and had a really lame chorus. How the mighty have fallen. I can't take anymore of this James, looks like this is one train-wreck I am going to have to tear myself away from. Guess the last 4 songs are just going to have to remain an eternal mystery to me. Oh wait, the next song has already started. Pirates of the Airwaves, are you fucking kidding me? What is this 1986? Giving Biff & Co. the hook now.

I had a feeling it might not be your cup of tea, Mr. GG!  That's perfectly okay!  I think Biff sounds as good - if not better - than he did all of those years ago when Saxon was a young band.  There isn't a single song that I don't thoroughly enjoy on this latest slab of tasty heavy metal - heavy, dark, and uncompromising.  The title track, "Fire and Steel", "There's Something in Roswell", and "Witches of Salem" are my favorites thus far, but the entire thing is just fantastic.  I enjoy "modern" Saxon (which, for me, goes all the way back to 1995's "Dogs of War") a great deal more than the classic stuff - not just because the beefier production gives the sound more bite to it, but because the songwriting is genuinely better, in my opinion.

Your posts are always enjoyable to read, and I look forward to our interactions on here, so feel free to tell me why I'm living on another heavy metal planet with my controversial take stated above!

  9. Saxon - "Hell, Fire & Damnation"

Finally, I've arrived at the end of this amazing catalog and listened twice through the brand new slab of metal from these legends.  Their 2022 release, "Carpe Diem", was fantastic, and this one is even better.  Biff just sounds incredible, and the riffs are heavy and memorable.  I cannot rave enough about these metal titans!

    Torch - "Dark Sinner"

I've had this album for a few years now but only listened to it once or twice.  I dusted it off this evening, and wow!  Straight-forward, no-frills, undiluted heavy metal!
