Lazy bloody Aussies should give us a new album, 5 yrs is too long.

    NP: Lord - Fallen Idols

Completely agree!  No reason for the pandemic to be an excuse any longer, especially given how many bands put out new albums during the past few years.  I've been reading that they're putting out a new album this year, so hopefully that happens!

  2. 3 Inches of Blood - "Advance and Vanquish"

    Lamb of God - "Omens"

    Metallica - "Hardwired...to Self-Destruct"

Saxon - "Innocence is No Excuse"

    Saxon - "The Inner Sanctum"

    Cannibal Corpse - "Chaos Horrific"

    Cannibal Corpse - "Bloodthirst"

    Medicine Horse - Self-titled

Was almost tempted to check this Maximum Overdrive record out to dispute your claim that there are no weak tracks (because I'm firmly convinced they're ALL weak tracks) but I'm not tryna click play on no fkn Dragonforce videos. Could you even imagine what something like that would do to my sidebar feed? Might take weeks or even months before YouTube would want to offer me something good and filthy and evil again. So I'm gonna have to let your ridiculous claim go by unchallenged....this time JT. Consider yourself lucky my friend. 😜

I appreciate your showing mercy on me, my friend!  I've been a huge DragonForce fan for about 18 years now, but in hindsight, I don't play those first four albums with ZP Theart on vocals as much as I used to.  But now with Marc Hudson on vocals for the last 5 albums, the songwriting has been more varied, and the material has been top-notch!  I listen to far less power metal in general these days - with DragonForce, Cellador, GloryHammer, Sabaton, and Rhapsody being the main exceptions - but when DF puts out something new, I'm on it as soon as possible.

Always a pleasure, my metal brother!

This is sort of like when I occasionally hear (usually an older person) complain about how some pundit/entertainer/whathaveyou online "talks too fast", and that you don't even have time to laugh at the jokes, accept this is like you gave that older person an rpg launcher and had to find entertaining videos for them at an acceptable speed since old man Mcgarret's known to be a little trigger happy.

We all slow down some as we age. It's just the way these things work, and for the record, most of the complaints about younger generation's lack of attention span and constant need for meaningless stimuli and it's effect on developing brains is very valid. Why you would make an insane rule like that is one question. How in the hell you intend to enforce it, though, is quite another. Maybe if they had faster music they'd be able to deploy in a timelier fashion.

NP: Brutalism - Solace in Absurdity

Decidedly average brutal death. In the right environment I could see them having a sort of home-town hero status. I will grant them that their drum sound is much more tolerable than most others in their niche. Good to catch a buzz during the opening act, if not really a headliner.

EDIT: Probably my favorite as well. I feel so conflicted about their material from Unia onward. So much of it is interesting and really brings what feels like a more authentic "folk" essence from that part of the world as opposed to what we're used to getting with most folk-power bands. It also takes a lot longer to really get it's hooks into me, and what we lose from albums like this in their bouncier and unabashedly power-cornball era is too much not to miss. Their identity as a band has clearly changed with good and bad on both sides.

I couldn't have stated it any better!  The first four albums - "Ecliptica", "Silence", "Winterheart's Guild", and "Reckoning Night" - are absolute classics for me, and I play them quite often.  I enjoyed "Unia" fairly well, although I much prefer when they play a more straightforward power metal style.  "The Days of Grays" (2009) came out during my freshman year of college, and I played it quite a bit, but it continued to stray from power metal (with the exception of the impeccable track, "Flag in the Ground"), so I started to lose hope.  "Stones Grow Her Name" and "Pariah's Child" were albums that I only played a couple of songs from and really never revisited.

However, with this new release, "Clear Cold Beyond", they've made more of a return (although not completely) to the power metal style I fell in love with all those years ago.  With this new release, my love for Sonata Arctica has been completely rekindled, and I'm really enjoying the albums from the last 15 years a lot more.  Love this band and so glad to have come back around!

  4. Alestorm - "Captain Morgan's Revenge"

    DragonForce - "Warp Speed Warriors"

Really enjoying the first new album in 5 years from my favorite power metal band.  Really glad Marc Hudson is in the band and has been for some time now.  I know ZP Theart was beloved on those early albums, but Hudson is a much more dynamic singer and never hits a sour note.  I'll be playing this one for a long time.

Yeah it's a pity they've stopped making music.

Wish they'd release something new but nothing since Electrified in 2017

    NP: Eruption - Tellurian Rapture

Yes, same here!  I don't hold out much hope that they're still together at this point, but perhaps they'll surprise me.

Dr. Living Dead - Thrashing The Law

Fantastic choice!  Love that band.  Got two of their albums, although I'm not certain how big their discography is.

This one has been one of the better new wave thrash albums in more recent years.  I revisit this one often!

    Black Water Rising - Self-titled

Black Water Rising - "Pissed and Driven"

Nice hard rock with a southern metal flare to it.

    Xentrix - Seven Words

Fantastic album!  Even better than their 2019 release, "Bury the Pain", which was great as well.  Those guys keep getting better and better.

AC/DC - "Let There Be Rock"

    AC/DC - "Powerage"

    AC/DC - "Highway to Hell"

    AC/DC - "Back in Black"

AC/DC - "For Those About to Rock"

AC/DC - "Flick of the Switch"

AC/DC - "Fly on the Wall"

    Temple Balls - "Pyromide"

Fantastic album!  Been one of my favorite thrash albums to revisit for several years now.  The pace is pretty furious throughout, and the guitar work is great.  They have two albums out that I know of, and I own them both, but hopefully they'll put some more stuff out at some point.

    Will check them later.

Testament - Brotherhood Of The Snake

Fantastic choice!  The most recent 5 Testament albums (dating back to "The Gathering") are my 5 favorites in the catalog, and "Brotherhood of the Snake" is right up there!

So what you're saying is that JT is the only one around here with any decent taste? Gotcha!

NP: Evil Invaders - Feed Me Violence.

Great minds think alike, my friend!  Fantastic choice with Evil Invaders, by the way.  The guitar work is phenomenal on all of their albums, which I own.

    Slackjaw - "Vicious Cycle"

    Some great southern groove here!

Oof. Well I guess we won't have to wonder why these Nashvillians' career never went anywhere. Only maybe JT could possibly love something like this because they're good ole southern boys like him.

NP: Necroracle - Arcane Impious Sorceries, black/death Spain. This is more my speed.

I'm playing that Temple of Brutality album as we speak!  Man, I love this stuff.

These Belgians did an album in 2018 called Blood Oath that I really loved. Played the shit out of it. I missed that they'd put out a follow-up in 2021 until I heard this new one a couple of months ago. Still love the debut, but neither of the two subsequent releases do anything at all for me. Booooooring. I hate when this happens, but it happens all the time, which I why I have no band loyalty. In my world you're only as good as your last album or two. And two shitty albums in a row means you're effectively dead to me.

Rituals of the Dead Hand - Blood Oath, black/doom 2018 Belgium

Those 3 bands sound totally different to me, so I'm not sure which vein you'd be referring to there JT. That one Iron Monkey album (Our Problem) is so badass though, might have to hit that one later. Should probably see if they have any others that are any good.

Love that Iron Monkey album!  I should have stated that a bit differently and said those three bands are all influences on Swamp Coffin.  Crowbar is untouchable for me, but Swamp Coffin has been a fantastic discovery over the last couple of days!

Yeah I wasn't quite on board with Psychosis but Inflikted was a good album.

NP: Death - Scream Bloody Gore

Very true!  And another great choice with the legendary Death.  Not a single bad album in their discography, which was cut way too short with Chuck's untimely death.
