  1. Hey guys, This is a new one I've been working on for some time. Check it out, let me know what you think, and share it (if you like it).
  2. There are so many ways to get the audience more into it, but you need to accept that it takes a LOT for people to get really into shows where they're watching a band they've never heard of, or been to one or two shows. It's pretty obvious, but the music itself is a big part. Play shit that lends itself to headbanging. Try to view your music from the perspective of someone who has never heard it. This is a very hard thing to do, but it is essential in making sure your music appeals to the audience. Musicians tend to get so into what they write, that they lose sight of the faults in it. Be critical of your music as a whole. Write shit that sounds energetic. Be unpredictable. Throwing in some drum or guitar solos into your shows gets people really into it, if you have the chops to pull it off. Take the opportunity to showcase the most talented members of the band, and it'll get people fired up. Act like you're the shit. Stage presence is huge. Every member of the band needs to put energy into what they're doing, and interact with each other. It's similar to the way hearing other people laughing at something comedic makes people laugh harder themselves (scientifically proven). Have your band members give off the energy that you want to see from the crowd. Set the example for them. If you want them headbanging and getting fired up, your band needs to be visibly fired up, themselves. No one get's excited for a band that just stands there, playing their instruments. Throw in parts that require audience participation. A catchy chorus could be the key here. Tell the people what the words are, and encourage them to sing along when the part comes. This takes a singer who really isn't afraid to talk to the crowd. EDIT: holy hell...I just realized how old this thread is. Well, I'll keep my response up, in case you're still looking for advice.
  3. I'm with you, man. I don't think there's anything wrong with down tuning, in moderation, but to have it be the standard (like it obviously has become) perplexes me. I think it makes the guitars sound muddy, and makes it that much easier for the guitars to overtake the bass, in the mix. There's really no reason why standard tuning should be exactly that...the standard. I like the guitars to have a sharpness to them, and down tuning eliminates that. As for basic distortion, I'm not 100% sure I know what you mean there. I think most of the issues you're talking about here come from the mix itself, not necessarily the effects used. I'm really more of a classic metal guy, like yourself. I think old school Metallica and Megadeth were as good as metal gets, both in terms of sound, and musicianship. Not saying I hate everything that's newer, but I think metal reached a point where there was so much effort to make music more heavier than the musicians before them, that the music became an arms race, to the point where most of it devolved into noise.
  4. Hey guys, My apologies if there's another section that this would be better suited for, but this looked like the best option. Anyway, I have a YouTube channel where I post my original songs (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgOSE2tTePQy-Atz-iqadVw) and I'm looking for someone who's more artistically inclined than myself to do some stuff for me. At the very least, I'm looking for someone to do the cover art for the album I'll be releasing, once I've remastered some of the older songs so they don't sound so atrocious. If I get someone who wants to do it, and I like their work, I may be interested in having that same person do my channel art, my channel icon, and maybe more. Anyone interested must post (either here, or in a private message) pictures of some of their work. If you're interested, you need to be willing to accept that you may be asked to make changes to the art you provide me, so I can make sure it adheres to what I have in mind. I am definitely willing to pay for this service, and I request that you submit your price for doing the cover art along with samples of your work. I will submit payment via paypal, or by personal check if you prefer. I look forward to hearing from those interested. Thank you!
  5. Hey guys, Those who frequent this section of the forum might recognize me from my occasional postings, sharing my original songs. I've completed 3 songs since the last time I posted on here, so I figured I'd share my channel link, and invite you all to check out some of my stuff. Getting started with a new music channel on YouTube is pretty tough, as there are about 10 million other people also trying to attract attention for their music, so I'd be very appreciative to anyone who at least gives my stuff a listen. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgOSE2tTePQy-Atz-iqadVw That link will take you to my channel page. My most frequently complimented songs are "Tyrannical", "The Bitter End", and "Nightmares and Dreamscapes". I admit, my early songs (and my newer ones, to a degree) suffered a lack of quality due to my inexperience with mixing music, but there's no denying that they are great songs nonetheless. Thank you for listening. If you choose to join my subscribers, let me just say thank you, and welcome! Throw them fuckin' horns up! \m/ -The Metal One
  6. Hey guys. just finished it about an hour ago. Give it a listen if you got a few minutes. Feedback is always welcome.
  7. Hey guys, The title pretty much says it all. Inspiration struck me hard the last couple of days, and I came up with something that I think came out really well. Fated to Nothing Of course, feedback is always appreciated. Keep criticism constructive, please.

  9. Hey guys, Some of you might have seen me on here before sharing some of my stuff, so I'll keep it brief. I just wanted to promote my original material. I've been putting my stuff on YouTube to try and get some followers. The channel is only a couple months old, and I release new songs as I finish them...usually about once a month. If you got a second to support some new independent metal, check it out. The Metal One - YouTube \m/
  10. Hey guys, Just wanted to share something I've been working on for a while. If you check it out, please stay to the end. If you don't, you're going to miss some of the best parts. If you have any compliments, or constructive criticism, I'd be happy to hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13a6_1-i0LA

  12. Hey guys, I just wanted to share an instrumental I've recorded. Criticism and compliments are welcome, of course. It was my first project using some new equipment and programs that I hadn't used before, so the quality didn't end up exactly how I planned. If you check it out, please stay to the end...it's the best part.If you like what you hear, feel free to subscribe. I'll be continuing to do new stuff, and I actually have a song I've been working on for almost a month that is almost done. That'll be up there soon.I'm not trying to be some big metal star; I just love making music, and I'm just trying to build up a little audience.Enjoy!
