Artist: Castrator Release Date: 05 May 2015 Genre: Death Metal Produced By: Horror Pain Gore Death Productions [ATTACH=CONFIG]1878[/ATTACH] I could begin this piece of writing, with a long analysis of the feminist movement, leading up to post-feminism which in the end provides us with the topic of today, but rather than bore anyone with the details of feminist theory and why the works of Grimke, Hall and countless others are incredibly important to society, but doing so would be a fruitless endeavor as Castrator, if put into literary form, would probably read less like “The Second Sex” and a lot more like “The Art of War”. Castrator is an all-female death metal band, consisting on members from across the world each belonging to different underground outfits if you will. The term “All-female metal band” is often overly emphasized in the metal press, but with Castrator the “all-female” part is incredibly important. Not only is this a band of women that do not wish to hide their assigned sex, they are shoving it down your throat and making damn certain you never forget just which of the two genders rules the world. “No Victim” sadly only has just under 15 minutes of play time, but the 4 song EP is uncompromising and ruthless from start to finish, if it the short play time doesn’t make you hit replay a few dozen times, then you simply do not appreciate a solid death metal release. Obviously appreciative of bands like Dying Fetus and Immolation, Castrator effortlessly asserts themselves as a solid band and despite the familiar and somewhat “generic” sound of “No Victim” they offer much more than just your average hum-drum “Rape women with broken bottles” death. Because not only is Castrator a band proud to stand by their all-female marker, they also take a fresh and incredibly critical approach to the death metal scene.
