  1. The most fun part of music is the attention-whoring bit that comes after you release anything. I love feeling dirty. https://horla.bandcamp.com/album/the-malaise Enjoy.
  2. good to see 1349 "Beyond The Apocalypse" right at the top. A severely underrated album and they've never (nor will they likely) make another as good.
  3. Another Irish band called Sodb, better than Altar of Plagues I reckon, though much more in the traditional BM vein. They have various members from their local hardcore/punk scene, which comes through in the music sometimes: Sodb - Don Seantalamh A Chuid (demo)
  4. Hi, This is the third demo I've posted on here. Your previous comments have been useful and much appreciated. This one is entitled "Wound". It's lyrics have to do with inter-generational war. Here's a link: Wound | Horla I posted this elsewhere in the forum, but I think it was in the wrong place...
  5. I have another Horla demo to promote, entitled "wound": Horla (It seemed best to put it here rather than in the "promotions" bit if the forum) Please try not to take the cover-art too seriously!
  6. Re: Horla- another demo Thanks. Any comments on the artwork would be appreciated too.
  7. Re: Horla demo (black metal) It's on the promote your band bit of the forum. But for your benefit here it is again: http://horla.bandcamp.com/
  8. Here is a link to where you can hear/download my new demo entitled "Tentacles". http://horla.bandcamp.com/ You can also find my first demo here as well. Some of you have already heard it. Once again, any feedback, positive or negative is welcome.
  9. Re: Horla demo (black metal) Well, I have another demo to plug now, but I guess this part of the forum isn't the place to do it, so I'll put the link elsewhere...
  10. Re: dream theater I have friends who like this band. I have discussed reasons why they are not much fun to listen to ad nauseum. Here are 4: 1) They don't write songs. They write excercises for their instruments. Great fun for them, but not much fun for the listener. They get away with this by saying pretentious things like "we have written twelve suites for our new album". Prog fans eat this up. 2) The keyboard solos just sound really really awful for some reason. 3) I once listened to the whole of "6 degrees of inner turbulence" The self righteous, lyrics about alcoholism and stem cell research made me extremely angry. According to one description it is "non-partisan". There is no such thing. It sounds like standard, conservative, pro-life nonsense to me. There are other songs with ultra self-righteous lyrics too, but I don't know titles. 4) Because Sikth do (did) the same thing about a million times better, without the horrible keyboard sound, without the irritating lyrics, with the added advantage that what they came up with were actually recognisable as songs.
  11. Re: Horla demo (black metal) @ BlutAus Nerd: okay, well if you wish to acquire said demo, best way is through the bandcamp link above. Glad you like it. @murph1990: I plan to re record the songs at some point, I think certain parts could be tighter- or just better generally, like the vocals. But also for post-production purposes, I think there are certain improvements I can make pre-production (new strings, different mics, etc.)
  12. Re: Horla demo (black metal) Thanks guys. Leviathan and Deathspell are probably my two favourite bands, so naturally... As for the production, I have absolutely no knowledge about producing music, so the low end sludginess is probably to be expected. I'm told it would be good to boost the guitars at 400Hz. I've also been using a high pass filter at 150Hz, but maybe it needs to be higher. Perhaps you can point me in the direction of any threads about producing/mixing music?
  13. Hello, I'm O.G. I record music in my front room, and I look desperately for drummers with like minded musician friends. I like black metal, especially the newer, more pretentious varieties played by American hipsters in plaid shirts. I also like hardcore, grindcore, punk, etc. I really dislike folk-metal and power-metal. Too overwrought. Would like to find out about some more underground black metal bands. Recently discovered a band called White Medal. "Agbrigg Beast" is a cool song of theirs/his. You should all check it out.
  14. Re: Horla demo (black metal) Okay. I think that's probably a bit OTT and I think the person who runs this forum has probably had the same intuition ("if we make the promotional section harder to access, very few people other than those already signed up will bother visiting/contributing to the site"). Which is probably why he hasn't implemented your rule yet. I wouldn't want to put words in his mouth, but that's what I'd guess. However, I'll see what I can do.
  15. Re: Horla demo (black metal) I see. What do you mean by "helping the cause"? Isn't that quite insular? If you're not interested in people who aren't "members of the community", then why have a promotion thread? After all, it's probably the main attraction to people from outside. After all, growing your numbers is what you're aiming for, right? If you included "must be regular contributor" in your rules, you'd probably end up with even more spam from people who, in reality, only wanted to promote their work.
  16. Re: Horla demo (black metal) Okay, I'm new to the whole concept of music forums. So forgive me if I have unwittingly flouted some unwritten rule. In fact I only posted here because someone recommended I should do so. However, given what you say is the case, perhaps you ought to make it clearer? There's no indication that promoting oneself or offering up work for feedback without being a regular contributor goes against (yours or everyone's?) tacit rules.
  17. Black metal, one-man band. Kindly lend your ears for this: http://horla.bandcamp.com/ Planning to release a demo entitled "Primordial Mockery" (edition of 30). Would like some feedback. Vitriolic panning or obsequious, puke-inducing praise are both welcome. O.G.
