I think limiting yourself to "metal" is wrong from the start. There is too much awesome music out there to listen. You get to enjoy all of them after a while. I listen jazz, blues, j-rock...hell, whatever I find amusing. Still enjoy the metal most though.

I understand that you are into melodic death stuff more. Have you tried Kalmah and Mors Principium Est (one of my fav. bands these days), Eternal Tears Of Sorrow(early stuff, all time fav.)? Here are some samples: Kalmah Mors Principium Est Eternal Tears Of Sorrow

After a couple of years, I've seen the Soulburner from Gardenian in one of my boxet that I stashed, and listening to for a while. Pretty underrated band I guess.
