Yes, I apologize to Kyle for not including him in my list. He did some incredible stuff with us. I'd also say Denson Angulo (bassist on the Nevertanezra EP, dude is an animal!)
Claypool and Flea have both earned their reputation. If you think they're overrated, it's probably because you don't like the bands they're involved with. RHCP is a decent band, sometimes really boring and lame, but listen to the way the bass works with the guitar in "Under the Bridge"... it's pretty fucking cool. However, Primus is awesome on all fronts. Claypool doesn't just slap, he utilizes many techniques and builds memorable riffs out of them, YET he still knows when to hang back and let the other instruments do their thing. Bass freaks check out: Michael Manring (played in Attention Deficit w/ Alex Skolnick from Testament and Tim Alexander from Primus), Nick Schendzielos (Cephalic Carnage), Joe Lester (Intronaut)... And if you would like to hear my personal take on how to weave bass lines into songs, listen to the Nevertanezra album "NTNR"! (sorry for the shameless plug)
I disagree with you about the RHCP and Primus. That is all. :D
  2. I like Stench, but everything they did since (and a few before that album even) has been supremely dull and lame. After seeing them live, I can tell you that Glen is most definitely phoning it in, and other than Steve, the other dudes looked like they were going through the motions too. I'm also having a tough time believing that you like this track, as the level of boring repetition in it definitely reaches "play that same riff!" territory. Maybe if triplet riffs weren't used by every other death metal band on the planet with life behind them, then the opening riff wouldn't have been so bad, at least not the first 40 times they played it... Believe it. It's good. Cope. And I've no problem believing they're phoning it it (minus Steve, I don't think he really has the luxury of phoning it in). Jack looked bored in Cannibal Corpse every time I saw them, but unfortunately for him that's where his fortune lies. He wants to play alternative but no one cares about it. Glen is probably burned out from a mixture of both the drama of his old band mates and life in the underground. He, like Jack, can't quit. They're institutionalized. It's not like they can go out and get regular jobs making livable wages with guitars/bassist/singer for ______ death metal band. It's probably very frustrating for them since they've obviously soured on this life style. They are a prime example of why investing your money wisely is so important.
  3. Sounds good. They started getting good on The Stench of Redemption. Their last few albums have been great death metal. Everything in between their first and Stench sucks horribly. I'll be getting this album.

  4. Yeah, The End Complete is similar to Cause of Death (minus the brilliant lead work), but almost like a less vicious, more sedated version. It's still okay, but it doesn't get me fired up like Cause of Death or Slowly We Rot. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
The End Complete was one of the best (and one of the first) American doom/death albums of the 90's. The slow simplistic riffs the minimalistic drumming and demented vocals are just awesome. Cause of Death was Obituary trying to hard to compete with their contemporaries on their turf. The End Complete is a logical conclusion to Slowly We Rot.
  5. Looks like I'm gonna see Melt Banana in November and possibly Obituary this coming month. Never have seen Obituary' date=' though I've been into them since Cause Of Death - which I still think is their best album. I know one of the bands that's opening for them. Should be a good time. And I just found out that a band I knew a few years ago, called Pyrrhon, got signed to Relapse recently! I didn't even know they were still around. Things are happening all around me![/quote'] I've been into Obituary since The End Complete. It's fav and their best. Cause of Death would've sucked if not for James. They're a band I'd love to see before they quit and/or I die. I'm stoked to see Helloween this month.
  6. I dig the first album it's sort of old school doom/death that doesn't sound like it's trying to be retro.
Ya screw that retro crap! I just wish we had more time to practice. We'd accomplish a lot more if we did.
